  1. Glad to see someone likes the gluten free pantry bread - I just bought it tonight, with much trepidation. I too just got a machine, so I'll be anxious to see the replies!
  2. Oh, I found cocoa. I made them. :swoon: Not only are they decadent, they taste...well, normal. Amazing-kind-of-normal. They cook up...normal. The batter looks...normal. What on earth are all these stupid mixes passing themselves off as?! They are horrid. This was incredible. I didn't room temperature the eggs...my butter was just melted, not...
  3. Oh, Thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you. I was afraid I was stuck with the crappy Pamela's brownies I just made. Fine with ice cream, but I like a little less ocean-side feeling with my brownies. Gritty to the nth degree, those suckers. I can't WAIT to try these! If I had cocoa, I'd do it right now. Instead, I'll have to buy some. And forget...
  4. I made a layer dip: refried beans, homemade guacamole (see any recipe book), fresh salsa (from Giant food), and since I can't have dairy, tofutti sour cream mixed with a taco seasoning packet and rice cheddar cheese. No one know the difference, and everyone loved it. What didn't get eaten (not a lot of people there) we put over tacos last night. Holy cow...
  5. Purple: I'd definitely be interested. I finally found Pamela's brownie mix, but haven't found Betty Crocker. The price about floored me, so I'd rather make it on my own. The only thing I really miss is Betty Crocker's fudgy classic brownie mix. Hot and with vanilla ice cream....it's a family favorite.
  6. You can make some mean french toast with pamela's bread mix - highly recommend it if you miss starchy breakfast foods. I agree that gluten free processed food is pricey, but the ingredients they make it with are pricey, too. I think it less about "taking advantage of" someone with a disease, and more an issue of the bottom line. These manufacturers have...
  7. Thanks, Gang! I appreciate your warm thoughts. And where the heck are they getting the brownie mix? I can't find it anywhere!
  8. www.angelfoodministries.com offers a gluten free pack that is very cheap. Also, check out the local food bank for lots of organic foods. Believe it or not, almost everything coming out of one of our banks is organic, because it doesn't sell quickly. Plan your meals, and focus on what you can have that will keep you healthy. Food stamps are easy to get...
  9. Harrisburg area, here. Right outside of Mechanicsburg, PA. Big fan of Wegman's and the Gluten Free Source in Dillsburg for my gluten free items.
  10. Since this has come up often, I thought I would share what we had for the holidays. I felt GREAT! I was even able to go to a movie afterwards (anyone besides me ducked out of going to the movies, for fear you couldn't sit through the entire thing without making people miserable around you?), had popcorn and felt fantastic. We had: BJ's Ham - It was...
  11. When in doubt, tollhouse cookies with a flour mix blend turn out great, and super easy to make. I made two batches - one of those, and a sugar cut out cookie with sugar icing, and they were devoured over Christmas. Don't lose heart - sometimes, they DO turnout!
  12. It depends on what you are looking for. I just got the Biggest Loser Family cookbook because I have two kids and husband to cook for. Most of them are high in protein, and require only minor substitutions (don't worry, that part of this is easy). I also got the George Stella Livin' Low Carb (I think that is the title) and they use primarily soy flour for...
  13. Just some idle thoughts on this: my girlfriend has been complaining of being hot ever since we've known each other (met in 3rd grade). When we turned 30, she decided to lose weight, and over the last two years has lost over 80 pounds...now she's always freezing. Part of it could be a lack of insulation but it may also be that you are eating less, your body...
  14. I just made a sugar cutout cookie with sorghum, rice and tapioca flours. Came out great. Mix some flours and see what happens.
  15. Jerseyangel: I had the same thing to some degree. I can remember being miserable during my teen years (nothing like having GI issues in high school, where the desks are almost on top of each other and every person in class is likely to say, "Hey, what's the smell?" Ugh!), but then not having much issue in my early twenties. Towards the end of my twenties...
  16. I would be curious to know what it is that makes so many sick on Amy's food, though. I had some of her things in the beginning, and I got so sick, I'm scared to get near them again. But I'm not usually that sensitive to CC (from what I've experienced so far). But it was definitely her food that made me sick (I'd had little else to eat that day) and I was...
  17. This is truly fascinating, but it's naive to think that there are no side effects to having a parasite living inside you. Our evolving cultural habits have changed the makeup of our bodies and have been both a blessing and a curse as new diseases develop and more intense strains attack, forcing us to use even stronger, and often damaging medicines to combat...
  18. It did help! Thank you - I found them!
  19. I gotta say - I combined a little of the two recipes, used a mix of Tom Sawyer and Sweet Sorghum flour, and they came out darn good. A little icing, and voila - Eat N Park, eat your smilie-faced heart out. Great recipe! Thanks!
  20. You and I are on the same wavelength - where did this come from and how do I get rid of it?! Unfortunately, I think we are stuck. You might be surprised who in your family does have issues, but have no idea that they do. I always thought the overuse of the toilet in my grandmother's house (they only have one) was normal! After every meal, every one takes...
  21. Oy - that is frustrating - and I'm experiencing the same thing this Christmas. Some of my friends are uber-sensitive, and others are absolutely dunces. However - I highly doubt it was intentional. People just don't think about it. I can remember when I was a bit younger, and being totally clueless about the vegetarian lifestyle. It would never occur to...
  22. I gotta agree with amberlynn - if you can't get the proper response, do some of your own diet testing, and see if it helps. Funny enough, amberlynn - reading your post, I have many, many times been unable to stand for long periods without getting severe pain in my stomach and feeling nauseous. When I was searching for a job, one of my main concerns...
  23. Okay, been wracking my brain, but the cruel reality is: he is going to have to try something he doesn't want to, in order to feel better. Honestly - most food preferences are found because something wasn't cooked properly (I have extremely picky eaters - husband and youngest step son) but with some tweaking and cajoling, they are getting there. But for cold...
  24. A man by the name of George Stella writes cookbooks for those following an Atkins/South Beach style diet, and he recommends using soy flour. Many of his recipes are very easily converted or are already gluten free. You may want to check those out.
  25. Just a thought on this - I do not have a child with gluten issues, so this is from a psych perspective and parent perspective...when my youngest was going through some pretty impressive emotional roller-coasters when he was about 5-7 years of age, I made it clear that it was okay to be angry. Emotions are fine, especially when they may be caused by - in his...
