ARCHIVED Please Help Interpret These Results
Coleslawcat posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After my diagnosis, my sister had all 5 of her kids tested. They have all shown some symptoms, some more than others. She got the results back today and was told to take 3 of them to a GI doctor, but the doctor said the results were not positive for celiac. I don't really know what the numbers mean, but I thought it was impossible to rule out celiac just... -

ARCHIVED Archer Farms (Target Brand) Sausage?
Coleslawcat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was just at Target looking for some sausage to add to my spaghetti sauce. I saw the Archer Farms sausage and it didn't have any obvious gluten ingredients, but I know sausage can sometimes be a culprit. Does anyone know if the Archer Farms sausage is gluten free? -
ARCHIVED Excellent gluten-free Chocolate Cake Recipe
Coleslawcat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I tried this chocolate cake recipe for my daughter's birthday. The party was today. Everyone loved it and most of the guests eat regular gluten cakes all the time. It was so moist and nice and fluffy. I used Carol Fenster's AP blend because I had it premixed in the pantry. I iced it with peanut butter frosting and garnished with peanut butter cups. So good... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Tests For Celiacs While Pregnant
Coleslawcat replied to Cvrcek's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
From the research I have done since being diagnosed, including talking to my ob, celiac can cause quite a few nasty problems if not a gluten free diet during pregnancy. It can be associated with miscarriage, some birth defects like spina bifida and cleft palate, and low birth weight. The good news is that many many women go through pregnancy with celiac and... -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Favorite gluten-free Cookbook?
Coleslawcat replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Carol Fenster's books rely on a sorghum, potato starch, tapioca flour blend. You might want to check her out if you like sorghum flour. -
ARCHIVED Already Sick Of Wendy'S Need Help
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There are a few Qdoba's and Boston Markets in the Phoenix area, but not too close to where I am. I was under the impression that there is virtually nothing safe at McDonalds. Am I wrong? I would love to be wrong because the McD's near me has the most amazing toddler playland that my kids love. -
I am only 3 weeks into being gluten-free and I am already sick of Wendy's baked potatoes and chile. Are there are any decent fast food options that are gluten free besides this? There are times I find myself out and about and would love to know of a few safe options that aren't always the same boring potato.

Right now, at this very moment, I have to say chicken nuggets. I have only been gluten free for 3 weeks and this was the first time I really struggled with wanting something. I was very sick with a nasty stomach thing yesterday and I always have chicken nuggets when my stomach is working it's way back to ok after a stomach bug. I missed them today.

ARCHIVED Flour Mixes................Rice Allergy?
Coleslawcat replied to mommaofthreebeans's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Carol Fenster's blend too. I'm only 3 weeks into eating gluten-free so I've only made one batch so far. I used the potato starch, but next time I think I will try corn startch instead since it seems to be a bit cheaper. -
I went there before I was diagnosed so I didn't try the gluten free crust. I had a regular crust pizza and I liked it. I hear they use Tom Sawyer flour for their pizza crusts. In Arizona there is 1 company that supplies gluten free crusts to a few different chains, they use the Tom Sawyer flour, I have had one of those from Barro's Pizza and it was good....

ARCHIVED Where Do You Find Gluten-Free Products In Bulk Cheap
Coleslawcat replied to Ivyblaze's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I recently discovered that some Costco's carry a 5lb bag of Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Baking Flour for $5.99. That's a steal compared to the regular retail price I've seen at Kroger and Whole Foods. -
ARCHIVED Did The Lab Run The Right Test?
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info. I just tried calling the lab. The most they could tell me was that it was a "celiac panel". I asked which test that meant and he said "the normal one". He would not give me a more specific answer, but did say it was just 1 test. Then when I asked for results he said he could only release them to a doctor in the state of Arizona. Talk... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Figure Out What Had Gluten
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I suppose it's possible. Do any of you ever get glutened from kissing your kids after they had gluteny food? I give them pecks all the time but I find it very hard to remember not to kiss my crumb covered kids. I wonder if that's what did it. In the meantime I plan to use another brand of black beans just because it makes me feel better to do something about... -
ARCHIVED Did The Lab Run The Right Test?
Coleslawcat posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed with celiac a few weeks ago. My GI doctor recommended I talk to our pediatrician about testing the kids. My son has always had whitish stools and my daughter complains about stomach aches frequently. They are both big for their age so they don't show the classic failure to thrive signs, but I am concerned given my lack of obvious symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Figure Out What Had Gluten
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I prepared it in my kitchen in the same cookware I've been using the last 2 weeks without issue. My kids did have goldfish crackers, but I thought I was pretty careful to stay away from those myself. -
ARCHIVED Help Me Figure Out What Had Gluten
Coleslawcat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made a Mexican skillet dinner and thought it was gluten free. About 15 minutes after I ate it I was hit with nausea, a bad headache and a foggy head. I've only been gluten free for about 2 1/2 weeks and prior to that never had major symptoms, but I feel pretty sure that I must have consumed gluten with dinner. Any ideas which of these ingredients contains... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Flour At Costco?
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Update: I checked at Costco. My Costco did not carry it, but they were very helpful in looking up which stores in the area did. It seems about half the Costco's around here carry it. It is Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Baking Flour and costs $5.99 for 5 pounds. If your Costco doesn't carry it I would ask them to check which ones near you do, maybe another... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Flour At Costco?
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It was at the Phoenix store at Thomas and 44th Street. I'm sending my husband to check for it on Monday since he works in that neighborhood. I'll update with the price when he gets it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Flour At Costco?
Coleslawcat replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm from Arizona too, but the Phoenix area. I didn't see it at the Costco near me in Gilbert. My friend said she saw it at the Costco at 44th ST and Thomas in Phoenix. That is very close to my husband's office so I'm sending him to check on it during his lunch on Monday. I got a bit more information she said it was a 5lb bag of Bob's Red Mill All Purpose... -
ARCHIVED "nathan's Famous" Hot Dogs....now Are Gluten-free!
Coleslawcat replied to canadave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sam's Club serves Nathan's hot dogs. I wonder if it would be safe to get one without the bun now when I go with my family. We used to make it a regular trip every few weeks and get hot dogs together at the end. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Flour At Costco?
Coleslawcat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A friend of mine told me she saw a 5lb bag of gluten free baking flour at Costco. She didn't have anymore specific details than that. I haven't been to Costco since she mentioned it to check it out. Has anyone seen this before? Is it decent flour? -
I just had the follow-up from my biopsy with my GI doctor. He said the Marsh score was a 3B. He explained how it meant the villi were flattened, but not gone, but wasn't very clear on how long it should take to heal. Does your Marsh score have anything to do with how long it will take to heal? It seems like it should since it shows the level of damage, but...

I thought I read a post about a great book that is a guide to gluten-free menu options at restaurants throughout the country. I have tried to find that post since and haven't been able to. Does anyone know what book I'm referring to? I would love to get a copy to keep in the van for when we are out and about or on road trips. The only thing I remember about...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Favorite gluten-free Cookbook?
Coleslawcat replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm new to the whole gluten free thing, I was only diagnosed a little over a week ago, but a friend gave me 1000 Gluten-Free Recipes by Carol Fenster. So far I have made the pizza crust and an Indian chicken dish. Both were very good. I plan to make the yellow cake recipe this week for my daughter's birthday cake.
