  1. These symptoms are VERY much what I had when I had gallbladder problems. Be sure they check you out, I had to have an ultrasound to see what was going on with my gallbladder. I ended up having a laproscopic removal and felt better as soon as I woke up the day after than I had in weeks - even with the incisions and some aching! In my case, it's good we removed...
  2. I'm another odd one. Would I love to have a donut? Sure! And I could CHOOSE to do so but I would make that choice knowing full well the price of it - both in immediate pain, several days of being sick and damage and future disease. I choose to not cheat - no treat, social event or craving is worth that price. I am not a victim of Celiac disease. I have...
  3. I don't knit specifically to help me cope with gluten-free - I'm fairly at ease with gluten-free. But I am also an avid knitter
  4. Day three of low carb is notorious for being the day you start having brain fuzz and carb withdrawal.
  5. If your mother isn't around you a lot, I think it can be easy to genuinely forget. Dealing with it day in and day out makes it seem strange to at all be able to forget but, hey, my mother-in-law still can't remember my 9 year old son hates mushrooms and has all his life.
  6. My husband and I went to Bonefish Grill (in Bothell, WA but they are a chain/franchise) and had a great experience. When I asked for a gluten-free menu, they immediately had one on hand and there were quite a few choices for me. My waiter noticed, without me saying anything, that I had a gluten-free menu and told me he was writing Gluten-Free on the kitchen...
  7. Starbucks has changed the formulation of their light frap mix and it now contains gluten. They seem to have taken the stance that they have no legal reason to notify anyone of this change and won't. here's a blog with more information Open Original Shared Link
  8. celiac causes various varieties of malnutrition so it could certainly be the root cause of Beau's Lines. - Maura
  9. The lines across the nails horizontally are called Beau's Lines and are a sign of one or more systemic problems including malnutrition. - Maura
  10. I've had symptoms for years but they were relatively mild and I attributed them more to lactose intolerance and just having a "sensitive stomach" than to celiac. I didn't even know about celiac until late last year. I got bitten by one of my pet cats last year and got a horrible infection. I was on antibiotics for a month and nearly had to have surgery...
  11. Not asking me but I want to mention that my eight year old son is a LOT more gluten aware than most adults or kids. One of his friends in school is celiac and he just adores he - she did all the work of teaching him what she can and can't have and to wash his hands after handling gluten food. It's hilarious to have him remind his dad - "You better wipe...
  12. MSG has no direct effect on celiac as far as I have been able to find out. The Glutamate in MSG is derived from sugar beet skins and not glutin or gliatin. That said, I avoid MSG like the plague because it triggers migraines in my particular case.
  13. I also bought red silicon spatulas, mixing spoons, cutting boards, etc. All gluten-free flours, etc, went into lock & lock containers and was labeled. Since we are technically a dual kitchen, we are mostly eating gluten-free since the boyz would rather eat my gluten-free cooking than cook themselves. The only real exception is sandwiches. I bought...
  14. It may not be the milk at all. Rice Chex is a common source of cross-contamination for me. I'd be more tempted to test your theory by just drinking 4 oz of straight milk and seeing what happens with just that. It removes any possible cross-contamination issues and any other variables. I had thought I was lactose intolerant for many years until I realized...
  15. This doesn't strike me as correct given your patient's rights. Check out the HIPAA Consumers Page (Open Original Shared Link). If your doctor ordered the tests, you may be able to get the detailed results from them as well. These test details are a part of your children's health records and you are entitled to a copy of them as their guardian. - Maura
