  1. I was browsing the forum this afternoon looking to post on exactly this topic! You are NOT alone. I'm happy to read your story, because it helps me feel like someone knows how this feels. I am currently typing from couch in my apartment while I should be at work. I missed a day yesterday from feeling AWFUL and tried to go in today. After 3 bathroom trips...
  2. My mother has ulcerative colitis and also is prescribed Asacol daily. She has a very severe case and even treated she had to have major intestinal surgery. She maintains a really strict diet and is very good about taking her pills, yet she has had SO much trouble over the years. I am only saying this to you (I know it sounds disheartening) because I was just...
  3. Well, definitely start by eliminating all of the "less obvious" sources of gluten. Check into which products he is using -- shampoo, soap, lotions, etc. to be sure they do not contain harmful ingredients (wheat germ oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein, oats...). Hopefully the symptoms will be somewhat alleviated if you read all food labels clearly, have him wash...
  4. I hope that you have talked to caterers and wrote your gluten-free on the RSVP. Please don't be afraid to say anything, it is your health.

  5. Thanks! I am so happy to get advice from an industry professional. I don't have any experience with food preparation and service and really just don't want to overstep my boundaries or set my expectations too high. I am going to follow your and Brian's advice. I will let you all know how it works out!
  6. I was glutened for the first time since going gluten-free in late January. I ate some shelled sunflower seeds that were produced in a facility with wheat products (ughh.. didn't look closely enough at the label!). Anyway, I felt nauseas the first 12 hours. Then had really bad case of D and bloating. I was so nauseas I could barely breathe and my heart was...
  7. Thank you all for the responses. I think I will end up asking the couples for their venue and/or caterer information so I can follow up before the event. I would be so happy if they were able to provide me a gluten-free meal. The thought alone makes me determined to try! All of your input is much appreciated!
  8. I have read Gluten Free Living for Dummies and My First Year. (Didn't realize these were two seemingly "standards"!) I found them both to be helpful! I bought mine on Barnes and Noble's online store and got both for less than 20 dollars! I have used recipes and ideas from both so far. Just recently a friend sent me several issues of the magazine, Gluten...
  9. I have 7 weddings in 2010 to attend. (Just hit the age where every friend, roommate, cousin, and co-worker is getting married!) Some of the weddings are buffet-style and some are traditional sit-down meals with several courses. I don't want to make a big deal out of my restrictions -- I am perfectly happy eating beforehand and bringing my own snacks along...
  10. Today is my fourth week of going gluten-free. I am so happy I read this thread today, because I have been discouraged. I am definitely feeling better -- very few instances of D, less stomach pain now that my celiac-related gastritis is healing, gaining weight back, and I actually have an appetite again! However, some things have recently appeared since going...
  11. This may be too late, but the chef at my local Bravo is WONDERFUL. Very accomodating and happy to serve. Best of luck - I hope it goes well. Let us all know what happens!
  12. My gastritis has definitely gotten worse since going gluten-free -- can't tell if it is the gluten-free diet or the medication change. I suspect the latter. Lymphocytic gastritis is acutally not curable in Celiac patients, because it is chronic, but the gluten-free diet supposedly will help the symptoms regress! Fingers crossed
  13. It was just confirmed that I have lymphocytic gastritis associated with Celiac. Since being gluten free, my D has vanished! However, once I was taken off Kapidex and put on Prilosec (for insurance reasons), my stomach/chest pain and nausea has been almost unbearable. Does anyone else have this condition? If so, what medication do you take if any? Also...
  14. I will have to make sure we are careful then. Seems to kind of take away some spontaneity. Better than spontaneous D though Lol. Has anyone ever had a reaction after contact with someone who had eaten gluten?
  15. DWG - Yes, that is so true! I just wish I would enjoy my slice of pizza and my doughnut in my dream since I can't in real life!! Haha
  16. Is it safe to kiss someone after they eat gluten? Oh, the things Celiacs have to think about on Valentine's Day!
  17. I love when I don't need to re-ask a question! Found my answer
  18. Jackay - Haven't been able to sleep well either. Mostly due to stomach pains. Lizzers - I may have to look into an antianxiety med for the time being. Although my arrythmia symptoms often mimic panic attacks so it can be confusing. However, I am definitely having some control issues since being diagnosed because I am not knowledgable enough about celiac...
  19. I've been gluten free a little over two weeks, but I keep having strange stress dreams where I am eating loaves of bread, muffins, etc. I've woken up in the middle of the night terrified before realizing I was dreaming. I am experiencing some anxiety over hidden glutens and cross-contamination during waking hours. Just wondering if this has ever happened...
  20. Wow I feel like i was meant to read this today. I have been gluten free for about two weeks which I know is still early. However, I have been reading so manhy stories where people felt wonderful immediately. My GI symptoms -- specifically loose stool - have vanished, but I am still have cramping, bloating, stomach pain, and nausea after eating most of the...
  21. Thank you all for taking the time to help.. Much appreciated!
  22. Hello fellow gluten-free friends! I was officially diagnosed with Celiac disease on 2.5.10 so I am a newbie to this. I am still in need of an overhaul in my pantry and refridgerator to get rid of all my gluten-laden foods and was wondering if I also need to replace dishes, pots, pans, toaster, etc.? Also, since I am so new, does anyone have any advice...
