  1. Woohoo! Tried again and got through today. Thanks for not telling -- I was taken off guard! Loved it. It will only be up for 2 more days!
  2. My live-in boyfriend eats gluten-free in our home, but not outside of the house. He eats breakfast and lunch at work, so he keeps a loaf of bread, oatmeal, granola bars, and other gluteny items in his desk. If your kids are school-age, maybe they can eat gluten-containing items in their school lunch, but eat gluten free when in the house. This cuts down...
  3. I shop at Giant Eagle and Aldi. The Giant Eagle brand deli meats are mostly gluten free. The labels have big gluten-free logo on the corner to make it easy to tell. Today at Aldi, I found Fit and Active ham that was gluten free and a Mesquite Turkey also labeled gluten free very clearly. Delicious Don't be afraid to eat lunch meats -- especially the pre...
  4. I have been very, very careful to read the labels of all of my products (edible or not!) since being diagnosed in February. Earlier this week I was tackling my rarely-if-ever used hair products and found that my hairspray had wheat in it! It was John Freida's Frizz Ease. Also, I was at a bridal shower today and won a gift that included hand sanitizer from...
  5. Rachelle -- that is very true. All the ingredients were very clearly listed, which makes it nice and easy.
  6. Just tried and it is busy! Now I am dying to know.. Someone let the cat out!!
  7. Here are some of my lunch staples: -Banana with peanut butter (I keep a jar in my desk) -Corn tortillas with gluten-free deli meat, cheese, etc. Just like a sandwich! -Hard-boiled egg -Almonds, trail mix, raisins, or other dried fruits -Yoplait yogurt (the gluten-free ones of course!) -Tortilla chips with hummus -Sweet potato or yam with a little...
  8. I use some of my old lotions and make-up that do not have obvious gluten-containing ingredients. Just make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after applying and avoid your mouth. I did have to give away a lot of my Bath and Body Works stuff, because they use oat fiber in a ton of their lotions Also, just found out yesterday that my John Freida...

ARCHIVED Recommend A Doctor In You State

I really need a second opinion and made an appointment to meet with Dr. Colatrella in 2 weeks! Thanks for the recommendation -- I am really hoping he can help me!
  10. No rash for me. I don't have skin reactions from gluten -- at least not yet! (Fingers crossed). I just got a burning pressure in my abdomen and terrible bloating from her Lemon Shortbread cookies. I seem to to eat the others without a problem! WHat kind gave you a rash?
  11. My family is extremely considerate when they are thinking about it, but sometimes they do things that are unintentionally hurtful. Last week my dad came home from work and brought home boxes of pizza, breadsticks, and beer. Everyone sat on the back porch eating, and the delicious smell alone made me want to cry my eyes out in my bowl of soggy Rice Chex....
  12. Im pretty new to the gluten-free diet, but when tracing through my food journal I think I may have issues with Pamela's Lemon Shortbread cookies and Rice Chex (all flavors). I consistently mark down periods of bloating and nausea about 2 hours after eating these products.
  13. OK, So I need to resurrect this post, because I have a few questions. I contacted General Mills about Kix and the rep told me they are not gluten free. Is this a statement they have to make because they cannot technically market their product as gluten free since it does not have a dedicated facility? Also, has anyone had cross contamination issues with...
  14. Fozzie -- I have been searching on here for someone else with lymphocytic gastritis! UGH. I have lots of questions for you! I am going to send you a PM.
  15. Great point! I will keep my eye out for it.
  16. Thank you so much for providing that list. Dextrin and maltodextrin are on the safe ingredient list provided by this site. Is this debatable information? I am assuming something would not be considered safe to eat and unsafe for cosmetics. Thanks again!
  17. Thanks for sharing! I am going to pick some up this weekend.
  18. I have purchased some speciality make-up that was marketed as gluten free, but would still like the option of buying cosmetics at the pharmacy and department store. What are the gluten ingredients commonly used in cosmetics that I need to be wary of when shopping? I know of a few: wheat germ oil, hydrolized wheat protein, and oat fiber. Are there any others...
  19. This precise symptom is exactly how I became diagnosed with Celiac. The pain/pressure/burning feeling I had directly below my sternum was caused by gastritis. I have this daily -- especially at night and right before bed. My gastritis is celiac induced, so after I got glutened (only once so far since going gluten-free) it flared back up. I too experience...
  20. Yes, I have never eaten breakfast at home for the same reasons! Can't get stuck in Pittsburgh traffic with GI issues!! I always eat when I arrive to work. Since going gluten-free, I bring a banana and keep a jar of peanut butter in my office. I do keep cranberry Glutino bars in my desk as well. Sometimes I bring little bags of Rice chex (love love LOVE the...
  21. Takala - WOW. You are amazing. That is some really good information - especially love the journal article with all the pretty celiac pictures! Haha, but seriously it was very informative. Thanks for taking the time to dig that stuff up. I am going to simplify my diet for a few weeks and try and focus on whole, unprocessed foods for the most part and see...
  22. Also forgot to mention that my doc said there was no visual indication that my villi were blunted or damaged.
  23. Yes, well my doctor told me it came back positive for Celiac disease. I just found out that what he really meant was that it was positive for elevated lymphocytes -- or the "early" stages of Celiac. When asked, he told me that heightened levels of lymphocytes can sometimes be indicative other diseases unrelated to Celiac, like microscopic colitis. But based...
  24. My celiac panel came back negative for celiac disease. I was already scheduled for an endoscopy because I had a severe case of gastritis so my GI took a biopsy to test for Celiac anyway. The biopsy came back with elevated levels of lymphocytes (something I just found out that can be attributed to other disorders, etc.). I did have the genetic blood test done...
  25. I drink K cups too -- but the teas. I drink Twinings and Celestial Seasonings. The companies have information on their website about the products being gluten-free but not specifically K cups. I felt comfortable with that info, but ff you aren't satisfied with the answer on the web, try and find the customer care number and put out a phone call. Definitely...
