  1. I see your current avatar in the above post. Your browser may have the old one cached. If so, you need to reload the page by pressing F5 or clicking reload.
  2. It has been a busy day, and when I phinally got on here, there was much catching up to do. I hope I remember all the questions I need to respond to. For those having trouble with Alt-7 et cetera, make sure that the <num lock> is on. If it isn't, strange things may happen. When num lock is off, the 7 on a the keypad is <home>. Some browsers...
  3. OMG, what have I unleashed? I see you, Erica. It is past 11:30. I have to be at work in the morning, so I am going to bed now.
  4. Expiry dates are always conservative. You can generally assume a fudge factor, but it should be based on the claimed shelf life. Many canned foods have a claimed life of two years, and will still be safe several months beyond the expiry date. Meat has a life in days, so I would not give it more than a day or two. Use your own judgment, but don't consider...
  5. Okay, for anybody who missed it the first time, the Oracle presents Open Original Shared Link
  6. Well, ... I'm not going to comment here, but it has turned into a nasty discussion about a certain food company. Open Original Shared Link It is late, and I have to be at work early in the morning. G'night, all.
  7. Open Original Shared Link is NOT Kraft; it is privately owned by the Open Original Shared Link and has nothing to do with Kraft, unless some of the family members happen to own a few Kraft shares. Open Original Shared Link, the maker of KitKat, is a publicly held company with headquarters in Switzerland and, again, has no connection with Kraft. Nabisco...
  8. On tonight's episode of Open Original Shared Link Ziva gives Abby a chocolate cupcake in the first scene. Abby is thrilled, but Tony reminds her, "Isn't this the week you are going gluten-free?" The gluten-free reference is repeated later in the program as Abby discovers that her cupcake has been stolen, and uses all of the available forensic science at...
  9. Welcome, Sammy. Laura, you and Eric are beginning a wonderful journey.
  10. Her Royal Majesty, Erica. It has a certain je n'est sais quoi, n'est-ce pas? As Oracle, I must point out that your term as monarch here is limited. Even though you ascended the throne as a teenager, you are not destined to be the next Open Original Shared Link.
  11. "Melamine was found in Snickers Peanut Funsize and M&Ms chocolate milk made by Mars, as well as KitKat wafers made by Nestle and a biscuit manufactured by Lotte Confectionery Co., the Food and Drug Administration said in a statement Saturday." None of these products are made by Kraft. How is this relevant?
  12. Erica, Maybe everybody else has gone to bed. I'm sure Nikki has, and I will be following soon. Skaught is is a psilly fonetic spelling of Scott, and refers to the board administrator, Scott Adams (username admin). US history is a fascinating area of study. The US has been in existence for 232 years, but has been involved in so...
  13. Rissa, I saw your original post, but did not reply because I don't know anything about interaction between celiac disease and steroids in general, much less your specific question about prednisone. Weekends are quiet here. Maybe most members visit the board while at work. We own our business, so company time and personal time are the same thing...
  14. Most vodka is made from non-gluten sources, typically potatoes or corn. Smirnoff is made from corn. However, as Lisa said, if the vodka has flavor added, then the flavoring could be a source of gluten.
  15. I'm here! It's been a busy day, and I haven't had much time to even read here.
  16. I remember Rice Chex, as well as Wheat Chex, from my childhood (I'm 54), but don't recall seeing them sold in Canada in at least 30 years.
  17. It has been a while since I put my silly on and posted here. There have been some troubles in the business world that have diverted my attention. We are working more hours at the moment, but things are actually much better since we got rid of a problem employee on Tuesday. We're off tomorrow, the first day off in almost two weeks. I haven't read everything...
  18. Who said that? It has been a very busy week with no time at all to come onto the board, but I'm back. There are too many pages to go back right now and read to catch up. I should have time on Sunday.
  19. Wasn't thinking of you, Lisa, unless you have been secretly deep fried.
  20. Hello, and welcome to the board. Potatoes are gluten-free. If you just cut them up and fry them in clean oil, the result is gluten-free. However, there are two concerns if you are eating out. First, some fries are made from seasoned cut potatoes. "Curly fries" almost always are, but in a few cases "plain" fries are coated. The coating may contain...
  21. Seeing as we are talking about old pictures, my current avatar picture was taken in May of 2005. I don't look much different today--just a little more gray showing. Julie, it's great to see you.
  22. You must decide for yourself. This has been discussed at great length many times on this board, and no consensus has emerged. Personally, I think that the wheat that begins the process is fractionally divided so many times before reaching the finished fries that you will certainly get more gluten from the cross-contamination that is unavoidable in any...
  23. Okay, if Patti's thumb is gone, I think mine will follow suit. But, if you missed it, click.
  24. Amanda, the house looks and sounds lovely. It is a bit small snug and cozy. I really like the kitchen--it seems large and has counter space. And it has a back deck too! (the house, not the kitchen) I give it a thumbs up.
  25. In both Canada and the United States, the single word "starch" means cornstarch; any other starch must be specifically named.
