  1. Be careful what you ask for: you might get it. Hmmm. Do you think Emily really wants a wake-up phone call to let her know how Michelle did? I have her number... No new word yet from Whitehorse. I don't even know how many cinammon buns she got at Open Original Shared Link. They are loaded with gluten and sugar, and are HUGE. We got one when we were...
  2. Nah, it is gonna be a while yet. She left Braeburn at 9:25 Yukon time, so twelve hours puts her at the finish just past midnight our time. A heinous morning at the store. The delivery involves backing a heavy truck into a narrow lane beside the store, so goods can be transferred from the side door of the truck through a roll-up delivery door. We've...
  3. Good morning, all! Michelle and her two rivals are resting at Braeburn. She is 17 minutes behind Dalton. GO!! I'm off to the store to deal with the weekly delivery. See you in about ten hours.
  4. Not I, for sure. Judge not, that Ye be not judged. I hope that you and John are the next in your extended families to have an announcement to make.
  5. Well, without restarting the debate about when the third millennium began, the claim was to the be 10,000th reply, not the 10,000th post. The second post is the first reply, and so forth. And to the dogs I go. Mackey left Braeburn just 19 minutes ahead of Anderson. Both had the obligatory eight hours of rest there. One hundred miles to go for them...
  6. Actually, this is not the case. High temperature has nothing to do with it. The distillation process takes place at a low enough temperature that no gluten molecules evaporate. With none in the vapor, none can condense into the distillate. They all stay behind in the residual mash. It is generally accepted that all distilled alcohol (and vinegar) is gluten...
  7. Smirnoff is made entirely from corn, with no added flavoring.
  8. A few flurries expected today, but no significant accumulation. We are expecting about 5 cms (2 in) on Friday.
  9. It's getting crowned at Pelly Crossing. Kelley Griffin and her team arrived about an hour ago. Anderson and Mackey are at Carmacks, while Michelle, Dalton, Sass and Griffin are all at Pelly Crossing.
  10. And now it seems that Brent Sass has caught up and all three of them are currently at Pelly Crossing. In the summer of 1994, Jacquie and I took five weeks and drove to Alaska, visiting a number of places in the real Northwest (the folks in Washington state have a thing or two to learn ). Carmacks and Pelly Crossing are places that I have been to! My...
  11. It is generally accepted that the distillation process used in making spirit alcohol and distilled vinegar produces a gluten-free product. This is true not because the gluten is destroyed, but because it does not pass into the vapor. This does not say that gluten cannot be vaporized, but that these processes involve carefully controlled temperatures that...
  12. On this board, the pinning of a topic indicates that a moderator has read the topic, and found that it is in compliance with the board rules, and that it is in the correct section of the board. In the normal course of events, every topic is either pinned or deleted. An unpinned topic typically means it has not yet been reviewed. This is usually of short...
  13. There are very few mainstream cereals that are gluten-free. Kellogg's adds gluten (in the form of malt flavor) to everything they make it seems. We use corn flakes and rice crisps from Nature's Path. They are a Canadian company. I don't know if they are sold in the US. They are organic, and are usually sold in a specialty section rather than being mixed in...
  14. Check out Open Original Shared Link for your dining pleasure. We visit the one at Bayview Village on a regular basis, but all locations offer gluten-free options. My home is in Unionville, and my place of business is near Yonge and Lawrence, so my shopping is mostly at places near one of them, or on the way between them. For shopping, selection...
  15. Hello, and welcome. There are several people from Canada who participate regularly here. What part of the country are you from? I work in Toronto, and live just outside the city.
  16. I can only see one other post by you. That makes two, counting this one. The other one has a number of replies. Posts here are reviewed by moderators and then pinned. Posts which have not yet been pinned are less visible, and may not attract as many readers. I am pinning this topic as I reply.
  17. Yup, the guv says we have to pay our staff to not work on Monday. Until this year, the law provided eight statutory holidays, but we actually gave our staff ten paid days off each year. We are considering keeping the total at ten. The new hardware is working fine, but it takes a long time to find all the little things that need to be tweaked so things...
  18. The new body is the replacement notebook, since I gave up on having the old one run for more than about ten minutes. The brain is a work in progress, as I am still working on getting software and data back in place. Good morning, all!
  19. I'm back, and I'm reading. Many posts to read. Six weeks without, I have a portable working again. It took a body and brain transplant, and there are still some things to be set up, but. More to tell after I catch up reading, which may not necessarily be tonight.
  20. After a couple of tries and relapses, I quit for good in April of 1990, cold turkey. A very difficult week, but a very satisifying outcome.
  21. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity. Less per month, and you are investing in your future. Look into it carefully to be sure there are no hidden land mines, but if this is true, grab it.
  22. Reactions vary. After only six days without gluten, a relapse to gluten will not be that alien to your system, so a noticeable adverse effect is unlikely. It does take time for your body to recover from years of exposure to gluten. Move forward. No more gluten. You can do it.
  23. Good morning, all. No fresh snow this morning, just what's left from the past few days. Today is another day of commercial endeavoUr. I'll be back this evening.
  24. Just dropping by, fellow sillies. No silliness to come from me tonight. Just more good vibes for John and Amanda. No hedgehogs in sight here. Another early start Saturday; I'll catch up with the sillies when I can. Sarah is still missing--where has our queen gone?
