  1. In my case, there was a five-year skid until the diagnosis showed severe damage to the villi. I do not know at what point along that slide the damage would have been detectable. In the early stages, the damage may be spotty, and not easily detectable. The intestine should look like a rolled-up short-nap carpet. Mine looked like a garden hose. Younger people...
  2. We are in a position to answer the original question. We are not in a position to tell his doctors how to diagnose celiac disease. We are all aware that some doctors still insist on a positive biopsy result before making a diagnosis. We don't know why the OP is concerned--maybe a documented diagnosis is needed to get accommodations at school, or for some...
  3. See, there is the question and it specifically asks using the explicit word, "biopsy."
  4. It is a General Mills product, so any gluten will be clearly disclosed--not as "gluten"--but by naming the source grain. Look for wheat, barley, rye or oats. If none of those are listed, there is no gluten.
  5. If you have been gluten-free for a long enough time, your villi will have healed and the biopsy will be negative. How long is subject to debate, and depends on how fast you heal, and how much healing there is to do. But a year would be more than enough.
  6. Which shakes contain gluten? I don't see any Open Original Shared Link
  7. Well, summer is done. We put away the deck furniture and set up the bird feeder and bird bath.
  8. RedBridge is widely available since it is made and distributed by Anheuser-Busch. New Grist and Bard's are harder to find. I have not yet found one that is anywhere close to a stout. I do miss Guinness. For a darker brew, Open Original Shared Link is pretty good. It is made in Quebec. I don't know about availability in the US.
  9. Five gluten-free beers are available in Ontario. All are available at the LCBO at selected locations--you can special order at any of them. One is available at selected Beer Stores; again special orders are available.
  10. Try these links for useful information: Unsafe ingredients. Safe ingredients. Open Original Shared Link If you don't see "wheat, rye, barley, barley malt, oats" on the labels, its not there, or hidden in "flavors, starches, etc." Always read the label.
  11. The topic is discussed here. Click.
  12. Soda is almost always gluten-free, although there might be something out there. All variations of Coke and Pepsi are definitely gluten-free. I believe that all the other sodas made by those two companies are gluten-free as well. Caramel color does not contain gluten. Fruit juices, likewise, are usually safe, but there are some exceptions, so be sure to...
  13. Well today is the big day down the street. The new Whole Foods Market opened this morning about a mile from the house. I don't like crowds, so I'll probably give it a phew days--may go on Monday.
  14. Sorry, I can't add any knowledge about the specific products. Somebody did answer that the toothpaste is gluten-free. My wife does not use any makeup or fragrances so it is not a realm we deal in. FWIW, Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo, Ivory soap and Colgate toothpaste (all varieties) are gluten-free.
  15. Welcome! "The blood tests came back negative for gluten antibodies, but I was serum IgA deficient." If you were serum IgA deficient, then any IgA-based test will likely show a false negative. Total serum IgA must be normal for the results of other IgA tests to be valid. If, however, an IgA test shows even a weak positive under those conditions it should...
  16. Most of those items do indicate gluten. I have bolded four that may or may not contain gluten, depending on the source. Wheat germ oil contains tocopherol, but the terms are not synonymous. There is much more than tocopherol in wheat germ oil. It would be incorrect to use the term tocopherol to label wheat germ oil--like using "sugar" to describe grape...
  17. The "natural flavor" concern is dated. Wheat can no longer legally be hidden in there in the US or in Canada. Rye (and oats) don't hide, period. So, the question is barley. In Canada, products packaged after August 4, 2012 can not hide barley. But for practical purposes, the flavor of concern is barley malt. It is an expensive ingredient, so its presence...
  18. Pizza Pizza worked closely with the Canadian Celiac Association to develop their handling procedures. The crusts are made off-site. The first time we tried it, we went to the local shop and watched. We have had several others ordered for pickup. I have had no problems, and I do react.
  19. "Good manufacturing practices" refers to a set of guidelines. There are several. Open Original Shared Link. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link All specify rigorous standards for cleanliness and avoidance of contamination. I am comfortable that these are at least as strict as what I followed when we had a shared kitchen (and thus...
  20. New formula? This looks like the same old one to me. I don't follow closely--when I do drink a cola I prefer those made by Coca-Cola. It is not about the ingredients, I just don't like the taste of Pepsi compared to Coke. Now, maybe if they got rid of the HFCS...
  21. A number of more recent posts here have been moved into a separate topic here.
  22. Yes, phrom themselves. SIL wanted to avoid having to pay a repair technician, so she tried a DIY repair job. Got a phlood, lots of phrustration, and phinally a trip to the laundromat.
