  1. Postum is made from wheat and wheat bran, among other ingredients. It is a Kraft brand, so any gluten will be clearly listed, but in this case the wheat is front and center.
  2. I wonder if the difference has to do with economics. Cellulose comes from the forestry business, which is big in parts of Canada. Not so many potatoes grown here.
  3. In a word, yes. Only in severe cases is the damage visible to the naked eye. Usually it is not. Marsh I and II are not visible, but are definitive diagnostics. You have to be well into the March III stages before it may be visible. Marsh IV is total destruction of the villi and will be visible to a trained eye (been there).
  4. Maybe. I have a few Kraft cheese products in the fridge and I checked the ingredients on three of them, including the shredded mozz.
  5. We use Kraft shredded mozzarella. There are ingredients: cheese (with sublisted ingredients), cellulose powder and natamycin. I've never seen any kind of starch in a Kraft cheese product.
  6. LOL! I don't know if it was your karma or not. The outage originated with power problems at the internet connection to celiac.com. The celiac.com server is in your state, Bunnie!
  7. The board was offline today for about nine hours due to power problems. The server is not in California, and access through the internet is affected by power issues in the New England state where it is located. No data was lost, but additional disruptions are possible as the cleanup from Sandy continues.
  8. When you select posts for MultiQuote, a button will appear in the bottom right corner. Use that button to launch the reply window with the quotes in it. If you can't access the smileys, try clicking the leftmost button on the upper tool bar. That is the one that toggles the edit mode. The tool bar buttons do not work in basic edit mode any more--they did...
  9. You are "`following" the topic, probably by your default settings. Check your settings under "Notifications Options." To turn off notifications for this topic, go to the upper right of the page and click the button that says "Unfollow this topic." When you start a topic, at the right side of the window is a section with post options. One of them is...
  10. Here in Toronto, the peak rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours. High winds yesterday and overnight have caused damage and there are some power outages. One death is reported--a woman was hit by flying debris.
  11. If it isn't dark blue that means there are no unread posts. The information is current as of when the page was displayed. You can refresh to get an update.
  12. It is possible that a medication would contain gluten. Anything injected is going to be gluten-free since gluten is a binding agent that would interfere with the flow and likely jam the needle. Capsules are made from gelatin, which is gluten-free. Because the capsule contains the medicine, no fillers or binding agents are needed. Tablets need a binder...
  13. Still up for the moment. It rained heavily for about an hour this afternoon, letting up about nine hours ago. The wind is the worry at the moment, with strong winds gusting to 60 mph overnight.
  14. Sheesh! No! What I meant was that any question where the person did not know was not "dumb." Some answers are not helpful but that was a general observation and was not meant to e a reference to anything in this or any other topic here on the forum. I was a paraphrase of something I heard many times from one of my high school teachers.
  15. Two reports of lost power near here. I am just north of Toronto, but my brother is in the east part of the old city, and is in the dark. Another friend in the mid-city area has also lost power. Flooding is not a problem, but in older parts of the city, power lines are overhead and wind brings down trees. Where I am, local distribution lines are underground...
  16. There are no dumb questions. Dumb answers--well, I'm not going there.
  17. It is currently not raining, but we have a wind warning for sustained winds of 60 km/h (40 mph) with gusts up to 100 km/h (60 mph). Rain forecast to start this afternoon and continue through Friday.
  18. The tags are new. Not yet sure how to take advantage of the feature as a poster, or as a searcher. The preview was there, but it was really hard to find--you had to hover your pointer over the topic title and then slide right where there were some dimmed icons, one of which was the preview. It is now easy to find. For those of you who used the little...
  19. Welcome! Although our name is about celiac, we are here to support anyone who wants help to follow the gluten-free diet. There are many members here who do not have a diagnosis of celiac disease--they just found that their health improved once they eliminated all sources of gluten. You will find empathy and support here.
  20. We are on the upper fringe of the expected impact area, and on relatively high ground. Flood danger is low, but power problems are another question. The propane BBQ has gas, and a full spare tank. A hiker's camp stove is in the garage, and I think we have at least a gallon of fuel. There is a fireplace in the living room, and we have some firewood available...
  21. The upgrade reset many notification settings. Look up in the right hand corner--you may have to reactivate the "follow" function. I did on the thread I follow. Then, go to your settings, check notification settings, and you may need to check email to reactivate it. It would be a good idea for everyone to review your notification settings to make sure...
  22. The "Reply" button at the bottom of each post is now labeled "Quote." It will prime the reply window. The multiquote function has changed a bit. When at least one post is tagged as "MultiQuote" there will be a button in the lower right area of the screen to "Reply to x quoted post(s)." Click it to launch the reply window. Click "Clear" to the right to...
  23. Yeast sensitivity does happen, but it has nothing to do with celiac disease or gluten.
  24. Yes, Arizona (except for the Navajo reservation) and parts of Indiana. But they ignore it. Saskatchewan, by using a time zone east of where they actually are, effectively observe it year-round. Solar noon occurs around 1:00 every day of the year. The middle of my waking day is closer to 1:00 than it is to 12:00. It is actually much later than 1:00.
  25. The shift is disruptive--no question. The problem is that mid-day (noon) is not the middle of the day for most people, just as midnight is not the halfway point in their sleep time. There is one place that has it right, IMO. Saskatchewan does not observe DST. Instead, they observe Central Standard Time year-round. But geographically, they belong...
