ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
psawyer replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Arizona! WardGirl drove up the 5.5 mile ascent on a very rough track that was barely a road--her first real 4x4 off-road experience. Slow going--with stops it took about an hour for the climb. More Arizona tomorrow, but tonight we had gluten-free pizza at Picazzo's. -
ARCHIVED Maltodextrin - gluten-free Or Not?

KC could work. We're in Arizona tonight, in a city with 28,000 residents. Limited food options, but we choose a steak place from the AAA book and check it out on the 'net. Family-owned business. So we are seated, and the server is ready to take our order. I start into my queries, mentioning wheat. Well, she asks if I am a celiac, because she is too... -

Yes! We are meeting Susie (and Weez) at Starbucks in the Marina in the morning. Our return loop will take us south of Lake Mead into Arizona, but after that there is flexibility. Kansas City, St. Louis, and Indianapolis are all possible ports of call. We need to be home on the 23rd at the latest. There is a family party on the 24th to mark my father... -

She was Queen once, but it didn't last very long. -

It's been a while since she was active, and you would not associate her with SF. -

We are currently in Sonoma County, California, north of San Francisco. A Psilly Psummit is planned for tomorrow morning in the SF Marina district. -
ARCHIVED Going Out For Drinks - Help
psawyer replied to Minstinguette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rum should be okay for you. It is gluten-free, and I have never heard of corn being used. Coke and Pepsi are gluten-free, so a rum and cola, perhaps? -

The journey west continues. Want some salt? Taken at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah Tuesday morning. That's WardGirl in the pic. -

Not so high tonight--well under a mile. We're near the eastern edge of the Open Original Shared Link. Picked up a six-pack of Redbridge this morning, and just tried one. It is pretty good. It reminds me of New Grist, which is available in Ontario--so far, Redbridge isn't. -
ARCHIVED Casein In Butter In Pamelas Cookies
psawyer replied to RGDenver's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, and welcome. Butter is dairy. If you are intolerant to casein (milk protein) you must avoid butter. In some cases, ghee (claried butter) is tolerated. Dairy issues involve casein, as mentioned above, and lactose. Lactose is the sugar in milk. In order for you to digest it, the enzyme lactase is required. Lactase is produced in the tips of the villi... -
ARCHIVED Being Celiac In America Is Unacceptable!
psawyer replied to Mennoknight's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, here you are: There is no official editorial stance regarding improved labeling laws in the United States. This not an advocacy board with a political agenda. The board is to educate and inform. Our sole agenda is celiac disease awareness. Each individual moderator, like every other board member, may have and may express a personal opinion. -

We got really high this afternoon--8,640 ft elevation--but have come down a little to 7,165 ft. -
ARCHIVED Oats Confusion
psawyer replied to dani nero's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A minority of people with celiac disease react to pure oats the same way they react to wheat and other gluten. You may be one of them. (I don't know if I am--I haven't tried oats since my dx.) -
ARCHIVED Apple Cider Flavored Vinegar
psawyer replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know why they would sell "apple cider flavored" vinegar when most vinegar is, in fact, made from cider, and products labeled "cider vinegar" are easy to find. -
ARCHIVED Video - 'Blue Bloods' Donnie Wahlberg And Jennifer Esposito Chat On Set - Contactmusic.com
psawyer replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well, if you want to spend a couple of minutes listening to traffic noise while watching Esposito and Wahlberg walk about, go for it. I could not pick up any dialog about anything. Celiac is mentioned in the accompanying article, but does not see to relate to the video. -

ARCHIVED Dairy Queen Modified Food Starch
psawyer replied to cvll's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Modified food starch is often tapioca, and some people have trouble with that. Just a thought. -

Must bring them back. They migrated to another room as the activity started, and are still there. They are shy of noise and action. -

Well, after procrastinating for ever, we finally started our exodus from the analog world into digital. Two weeks ago I acquired a new digital camera. I had had one since 2005, but this is way beyond the quick point-and-shoot one (which died). Over the past week, I liquidated a large number of Aeroplan frequent flyer points, turning them into gift cards... -
ARCHIVED Ketchup Gluten Free?
psawyer replied to igd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is. But nevertheless, I am not aware of a ketchup in Canada or the US that currently contains gluten. Once upon a time, Heinz Organic Ketchup contained malt vinegar (barley). It contains a different, gluten-free, vinegar today. -
ARCHIVED Epidural And Pregnancy
psawyer replied to looking for info's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No injectable medication is going to contain gluten. Gluten acts as a thickener and would just tend to clog the needle. Oral medications occasionally contain wheat starch. Injectable ones are definitely gluten-free. -
Happy birthday, Scott. Cheers!

ARCHIVED Kellogs Corn Pops - What Am I Missing Here?
psawyer replied to Glutendude25's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Under the guidelines from Health Canada, a "may contain" for wheat is not appropriate. "May contain" refers, as Jestgar suggests, possible contamination within the manufacturing factility. Open Original Shared Link
