I had a tongue-in-cheek conversation w/ my doctor a few years ago and whined... "I'm gonna end up in a nursing home and they're gonna feed me bread and I'm gonna have diarrhea and they'll be mad at me cause I'm messing my drawers all the time and I'll get bedsores... and ... yada, yada, yada.
The bracelet is a good idea, I think... but then you're at the mercy of people knowing or not knowing what GLUTEN is!!
-
Ha ha... molten acid shooting out of my butt is my response... if they persist beyond my more polite answer of, "I have serious intestinal distress."
-
Yea, I'm an ABC board reader too. I LOVE the show and can't wait to read the spoilers the next day to see all the little things I totally missed!!
-
But... maybe it's TRUE and we can all be healed and eat all the foods we haven't been able to!!
HA HA HA
My son-in-law got an email from a guy who wanted to buy his car... and wanted him to accept a "cashier's" check for twice what the car was being sold for. He was to cash the check and mail the remainder back to the guy.
My SIL wrote back to him and asked, "Sounds good... would you like all my banking information and credit card numbers too???"
The guy wrote back and said, "You stupid American... this is serious."
HA HA HA HA

I've not found a Campbells soup yet that is gluten-free. The Progresso Cream of Mushroom is gluten-free. If you go to the organic/health food types of soup... those are often gluten-free. Ya just gotta read the labels.

Manna from Anna bread mixes fan here. Check her out at www.mannafromanna.com. They're easy to make and the best bread I've found yet!

... um... DUH...
ha ha ha

I did... about a year after going gluten-free I scarfed a huge slice of homemade bread and had NO effects. I thought perhaps I could "plan" a cheat about once a month. The next time I tried it, tho... I had to ride in the car for hours and was none to happy to the noises my intestines were making. I gave up the "planned" cheat idea.

I've signed up for emails from Wegman's... a new store is opening in the next few weeks near me.
They're offering recipes for Celiacs and those w/ lactose intolerance and other food issues.
The first recipe they offered for Celiacs included gorgonzola cheese. I rated the recipe w/ a low score even tho I'd never made it just so I could review it and warn Celiacs that, unless the brand of gorgonzola cheese recommended in the recipe is absolutely labeled gluten free, we should not use it. I also emailed Wegman's and warned them... no reply as yet.
This week's email includes using some packaged seafood sauce, a puttinesca sauce, and vegetable broth. I again reviewed the recipe and warned people reading it that they must absolutely read all the ingredients themselves as some of the sauces may have things like modified food starch. I also emailed Wegman's again and told them that most Celiacs will read all the labels, but those who are newly diagnosed might trust Wegman's before they get the label reading down. Maybe they'll reply to this email.
Can we say YIKES???

Scampi is really just fish (shrimp/scallops, etc) sauteed in butter w/ garlic. It should be okay...
... BUT...
I always ask how things are prepared... and if they balk like they don't know, I ask them to please ask the chef if any flour of any kind is used or any kind of thickening agent. I've had success in restaurants where they also serve rice ... asking for my scampi on rice rather than pasta.

I'm w/ you, mamaw... I am avatar challenged!!
-
Like everyone's said... it seems daunting at first. All you can see is what you CAN'T eat, when there really are so many things that you can. It turns out what we can eat is REAL food... meats, fruits, veggies. And the rest of the stuff comes later... there are great mixes for breads and cookbooks for baking.
You'll most likely find way more info here on the forums than even a dietician can give you. By the time I got to one, she told me I should teach HER.
Good luck and come back. There are the most knowledgable folks here!!

Am I the ONLY one who can't pinpoint ONE trigger? I was fine... no symptoms whatsoever... till one day I started having diarrhea... no other symptoms. No pain, bloating... nothing.
It just came!
-
Thanks, Queen... that's just what I thought.
-
I thought gorgonzola cheese was a no-no for us cause it's a bleu cheese... am I mistaken?
Wegman's has an awesome website and puts Celiac recipes on there. But is their appetizer, Gorgonzola-Stuffed Apricots with Bacon, allowed for us??

I see a ROAD TRIP in my future. I was just telling a friend that the best food on earth is a crisply toasted bagel w/ tons of cream cheese, piles of thin slices of LOX, a few rings of red onion and capers!! Man, do I miss that!!
-
I've gained probably 30 lbs since going gluten-free... it's so frustrating!!
-
After a year of being (what I thought was ) gluten-free... I made a beautiful crusty loaf of bread that I'd been known for earlier... and my daugher walked in to find me stuffing a huge buttered piece in my mouth. It was like a slow-motion movie... her yelling "N-O-O-O-O-O-O!!" as I chomped down!!
Nothing happened!! I thought maybe I could "plan" a cheat every month or so... next month I was gonna try Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza!! I was so excited.
I didn't try it the next month, but the next time I was accidentally glutened... it really hurt me.
No more planned cheats... and w/ the help of folks here who showed me stuff I was doing WRONG... no more cheats at all!!

Can't stand Oprah and don't care one fig what she says about anyone or anything...

My daughter and I went to a lovely tea room for a bridal shower recently... me w/ my handy, dandy lunch box in tow. As everyone was eating these gorgeous tea sandwiches, I took out the tiny egg salad sandwiches I'd made on thinly sliced crustless bread and delicious tomato sammies the same way. My daughter brought some yummy chocolate chip cookies for us... and we didn't feel deprived at all! I don't even know if the server knew we'd brought our own food or what he'd have said if he did know, but what would have been a really crappy afternoon was lovely!!

Huge Manna from Anna fan here.

Wouldn't you think that the "authentic" Mexical restaurant would have 100% corn tortillas?? We went to our fav Mexican place last night that's recently been bought up by another owner... and I (LUCKILY) asked the server to please check that the tortillas served w/ the salsa were indeed corn. He came back and told me that they were now using corn tortillas that are dusted w/ wheat flour!
I ate the cheese and chorizo appetizer w/ no chips or tortillas. Too bad... I really liked that place. Maybe I'll ask them if I can bring a few of my own corn tortillas.
