  1. I don't want to take the wind out of your sails regarding eating something you really enjoy, but here is my view. I also love Sushi, and I also desperately miss some of the foods I used to have that are gluten-free, but prepared at a non-gluten-free facility or restaurant. I know most servers/cooks/chefs have good intentions, but unless you really know...
  2. I feel for you. I don't have thyroid issues, but I have neuro. and autoimmune issues going on that I am getting checked out. I know what you mean about feeling like you're falling apart: up until such a short time ago I was so vital and energetic and now I feel pretty pathetic.

    ARCHIVED Ms?

I've noted on the forum that many people with celiac have neurological symptoms, as I have. I'm nervously waiting for an upcoming Neuro. appointment, as their is concern about the particular symptoms I have. Some, though, sound so much like the gluten-related neuro symptoms, so maybe I don't have to be so scared. I'm curious: how many of you have subsequently...
  4. I've been helped by eating junior baby food (the types with no added sugar - just the pureed fruit) for fruit I need. I have found it much easier to digest than eating the fruit itself, and less bloating and gas. Baby food veggies are not very tasty to me, but maybe you'll like them. Also, in the early stages I would grind up my veggies and meat after...
  5. Thanks for your help, L. f. a.!!
  6. While I haven't tried it yet, I am intrigued by Alpha ENF (there is also Alpha PMX, which has less protein), which can be ordered online (just google Alpha Nutrition products, and that should get you to their site). I like the formulation, as it is designed to give a balance of all nutrients, not just protein. I have in the past used Biox Power Whey. Incredible...
  7. I don't know if your symptoms are gluten-related or not, but google the term BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), and see if this sounds like what you are experiencing. If so, ask your family doctor to refer you to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist (otolaryngologist) if it doesn't clear up.
  8. I had my first IgA blood test almost 4 months ago, and the level was stated as >200 (normal at the clinic I go to is <20). At the time I was eating a lot of gluten (I loved cereal, and always went for the so-called healthy ones with all the whole grains, such as Shredded Wheat, Muslix, Oatmeal with added wheat bran, etc. ). I've been gluten-free ever...
  9. I was sent for some blood-work, and one of the tests that was done (referred to as an "ANA Screen") was to determine if there is evidence of another auto-immune condition. The results was "Titre 1:80, Pattern: speckled; Interpretation: uncertain without results of correlated blood-work" . That it for results from the immunology section of the blood tests...

  11. I've had this feeling of constant hunger as well. For me, it alternates with feeling like I have no appetite at all one day (I still eat on these days, just smaller amounts, with no ill-effects) with days where I constantly feel hungry. My trick so I don't gain weight: keep physically busy and your mind active (watching tv doesn't help - lol!). Also, drinking...
  12. I've read posts and have seen the bios of several of those on this board, and have noted how many have gone years before being diagnosed, and consequently have suffered from associated conditions. I feel very thankful I was diagnosed quickly. Doesn't matter much now, but I do wonder how long I, too, would have been undiagnosed if I hadn't done my research...
  13. I ended up in emergency twice with severe stomach pains (actually, lower abdominal, which probably caused confusion among the medical profession) in mid Jan. 2010. Prior to that I had had intermittent pressure in my stomach (not bloating) for almost 3 months, which became severe and more constant in mid-Dec. 2009. I was just getting my act together to...
  14. I have heard that often we can crave what we shouldn't really be eating in the first place. Case in point: I often craved cereal (eg. shredded wheat, oatmeal, granola bars) over the years, and what happens? I get diagnosed with Celiac (Feb. 2010). Hm-m-m-m. . . interesting. Now for the past few weeks I've been craving hot whipped milk (I have one of...
  15. I had a nuclear medicine bone scan yesterday afternoon, to hopefully explain (or rule out) causes of ongoing rib discomfort. I was injected with a radioactive dye, had to wait 3 hours then had the scan done; the scan itself took 30 min. About 4 hours later (so just after the scan was completed) I started feeling a little dizzy/woozy, but I blamed it on perhaps...
  16. Kind of worked - I used a 1/2 dose just to see what it would taste like, and the nausea started about 30 min. later.
  17. I'm a personal trainer and was diagnosed with celiac in Feb. 2010. I struggled with bouts of extreme weakness, fatigue, muscle tremors and headache with ANY attempt (even 10 minutes at low intensity ). Only now have I been able to exercise for 20 minutes without symptoms, and only at 30% of my previous intensity. . .). My abs are disgusting: I used...
  18. I've read that the molecular structure of oats is quite similar to that of wheat, and the small intestine of some celiacs will therefore react to even g.f. oats for this reason.
  19. I have had major problems with "brain fog" as well: difficulty concentrating, memory problems, and finding that I have needed to focus so hard on what I'm doing that it tires me out. Both mental and physical tasks were just too tiring and effortful. Anyway, I was diagnosed/went gluten-free in mid-Feb. 2010, and it was suggested by several very insightful...
  20. I signed out of work early today because of this very problem - lol! Now that I'm home (I live alone, thank goodness) I can relax. I don't know what got me going with gas today, and I had the same problem the night-before-last. Absolutely no chance I had gluten, but who knows if I am perhaps reacting to something else . . . I read that drinking a small...
  21. I have celiac, but no one else in my family does/did (including grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins). That's not to say there aren't perhaps some gluten-intolerant people among them, perhaps, who aren't showing significant symptoms. Perhaps celiac is carried on a recessive gene, so it takes a "recessive" mom and dad produce a child with celiac. Maybe...
  22. I've never had headaches my whole life, and I had 8-9 major migraines during the first 6 weeks of going gluten-free (I'm now 9 weeks g.f.). In the subsequent 3 weeks I've had 2-3 minor migraines (I think they'd still qualify as migraines because I have a milder version of the head pressure, weakness, irritability, and sound/light sensitivity. I will also...
  23. I was diagnosed 2 months ago, but when I think back, I probably first started showing symptoms 7 years ago. At that time I was finding I often felt bloated after lunch (for which I almost always had a sandwich), so I decided to give up bread. I blamed my symptoms on yeast, and without bread, I felt better. As best as I can recall I no other symptoms until...
  24. I'm far too aware of the consequences of eating gluten, so I m not even tempted to eat any of the gluten-containing treats and "comfort foods" that I used to eat. However, that is not to say I don't have those sorrowful moments of "oh, I guess I'm never going to be able to eat that again" when I'm reminded of something I really like. Just this week alone...
  25. I find if I haven't had enough protein (like today - lol!) I am prone to carb cravings. I would suggest making sure you have some healthy, low fat protein at each meal and with each snack. This helps me control the cravings amazingly well!
