ARCHIVED Desperate! Need Answer Fast.....
jknnej replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A couple of nights ago I awoke at 2am and couldn't open my mouth. I forced it and my jaw popped so loud it woke my husband up. I was freaking out. I always knew I had TMJ but this was different. Luckily I have a mouthpiece to wear that helps, but I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital. It's very scary. The pain shot straight through my head and... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods
jknnej replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed Whole Foods about their prepared food because it would be so convenient to be able to run in to get dinner on a tired night. The lady who emailed me back said they list their ingredients but she could NOT verify how it was prepared or if the food is cross contaminated. I, therefore, stay away from it:( -
Their website says vanilla and a few others are gluten-free. Anyone tried it? I want to make sure b/c I saw Rice Dream milk in the store and it said "contains less than 2% gluten" or something like that. The website, however, says their ice cream is gluten-free. Does anyone else eat it?

ARCHIVED Nyc Fast Lunch Ideas Needed!
jknnej replied to Ruth's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I ordered the mushroom and mozzarella pizza, the parmesan cheese risotto, and the fudgie cookies for dessert. They were so good I ordered another pizza to go and a salad and took it with me for the next day. I wish this place was in Phoenix! It was wonderful. I still have the cookies in my fridge!!! Plus, the wait staff was extremely helpful and nice to... -
I rely on Sara Lee; their deli prepackaged meats are gluten-free and then you don't have to worry about getting glutened from the slicer! If you do buy deli meats straight from behind the counter, make sure they thoroughly clean the slicer.

Personally, I'm a little confused. For those who say it's hard to stay gluten-free because of their schedules, that BEGS the question: how do you handle your schedule when you're miserably sick, then??? I don't get it. When I eat wheat I feel like dirt, so I don't eat it anymore. I have a busy schedule; I usually leave home at 5:45 or 6am and get home around...

ARCHIVED Made A Mistake And Ate Puffins
jknnej replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some of the Puffins cereal IS gluten free; I eat it all of the time. Whoever wrote that last post is right; I think it's the honey kind... Here's a tip: on the side of the box it will have a long list of things about the cereal. On the one that is gluten free it will say "gluten free." The other Puffins do NOT say this on the side of the box. Just look for... -

jknnej replied to Ruth's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I just got back from NYC; it was great! Bloom's food was OK but Risotteria was fabulous!!!! I didn't get sick once while in New York..I loved it!!! Thanks for all of your suggestions..now I know when I go to the Big Apple I can eat safely! -
I'm going to NYC tomorrow and will be ordering baked potatoes! Is most restaurant butter and sour cream safe? Is there any sour cream w/ gluten? I'll miss you guys these next five days!!!

Does anyone know if Ulta Brand make-up is gluten-free? How about Prescriptives? Or Victoria Secret?

ARCHIVED Nyc Fast Lunch Ideas Needed!
jknnej replied to Ruth's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
celiac3270, Where is Risotteria or however you spell it! in relation to the Grand Hyatt (at Grand Central Station?) I am going to NY on Thursday and worried about food. I know Bloom's is only 2 blocks from the hotel. What about Risotteria? I would love to eat there... Also, are there are any health stores near that area? my hotel has a fridge but NO microwave... -
For those of you who take Zantac, does it work better than the Prevacid?
-
Does anyone take Xanax from time to time when having anxiety issues? My doc prescribed it as well as Prevacid for acid reflux. I requested the kind you can take only when needed as I don't want to take the kind that you must take every day. Any thoughts would be great!

Normally they cook your meat on a grill-so you just ask them to do your on a clean skillet instead? that makes sense...I will try that. The hard part is wondering if they actually did it.
-
When you order plain meat, though, don't you have to make sure they don't cook it on the same grill where seasoned meat was cooked? What's the easiest way to accomplish that? Ask them to cook it on a piece of foil?
-
Does anyone know if this nausea med is gluten free? i've got to get something to get this under control...help! I told my doc about the nausea but the only solutions she offered were licorice and ginger...there has to be something else that can help me!
-
How do you get rid of the nausea?
-
But if you ask for plain meat you also have to make sure they don't put it on the same grill, right? Maybe ask them to cook it on a piece of foil or move it to a side of the grill that doesn't get used? Also, do you think their butter and sour cream are OK?
-
So what do you guys think is THE safest restaurant food you can order? I know there isn't one but if you could pick anything that would be the least likely item to be cross contaminated, what would it be???
-
I think I may have it...my symptoms are clear cut, but here they are: heartburn sometimes-I didn't realize what I had was heartburn until the doc told me yesterday. i get chest pain and always thought it was a heart problem! Nausea raspy voice (last few months only) ear aches anyone think this could be causing my nausea problems? Or does reflux not cause...

ARCHIVED Some Rather Graphic Bm Discussion Follows
jknnej replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok, the whole "floating" stool issue-I still get that after 4 months gluten-free. Normal? -
ARCHIVED Cheating
jknnej replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm quite surprised that person who cheats doesn't get really sick upon doing so! My spells get worse the longer I am gluten-free when it's accidentally ingested. I hate feeling that sick! No piece of pizza is worth it! I think either that girl just has a wheat allergy instead of intolerance or her doctor knows absolutely nothing about celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Makeup?
jknnej replied to pogirl1786's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Kati, Do they sell Bare Escentuals in any store? How do you match your foundation if you can't see it first? -
Does anyone have recommendations for good cough syrup, throat drops, cold medicine, etc that are gluten free? I usually use Drixoral or Halls Echinacea cough drops, nasonex spray, robitussin or Nyquil when I'm sick and I'm wondering if they are gluten-free. I can call the companies but I figured I'd ask since some of you might already know just off the top...

You know, I thought the make-up was just silly but I swear last week I put on lipstick (it was Mac lip gloss and I thought their make-up was gluten-free, but I got terribly sick. I guess it really can give you a bad reaction. That's the worst I've been sick since starting the diet. I've stopped wearing make-up for awhile until i have the time to research...
