  1. I have eaten it when I first was diagnosed. I'm not going to lie to you--it's not very good, especially when you compare it to Tinkyada. However, it's alright if there's nothing else available (and there wasn't for me when I was first diagnosed), but it does not heat up very well or hold up very well. If you can find Tinkyada, I highly recommend that instead...
  2. Hi, Jen--No, I've never had a problem with Lactaid, but I've been lactose intolerant my entire life and have been drinking it since I was a child. If it's not a dairy/casein allergy that you're experiencing, then I'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe other people have some ideas....I hope you figure it out!
  3. Yes--I emailed them several months ago, and their milk is gluten free. I drink it almost every day, and I have never had problems with it.
  4. I use Nice and Easy by Clairol and have never had a reaction (and I'm super sensitive to gluten). The ingredients for all the coloring and conditioner read fine, and I've used different colors about 4 to 5 times now. It also gives a nice color.
  5. I, too, was nauseous for about 3 months after going gluten-free, and pure peppermint helped--either in hard (candy) form or peppermint tea. I hope he feels better soon--nausea is the worst!
  6. On most Kraft cheeses, they will say "contains 0g of lactose per serving." It's usually located under the ingredient list. Hope this helps!
  7. You're very welcome--I hope it works!
  8. I get these too, though I only get them in the winter, and mine, too, are always on my upper arm. I assume that it is due to dry skin, as lotion helps them. They usually don't fade, however, until the summer, when I begin to get some color on my arms. So, I don't worry about them. My mom gets them, too. Try some really good moisturizing lotion and see...
  9. I tend to not bake from scratch, so I can only suggest a mix, but pound cake was my favorite gluten-free treat, and I used to eat it all the time. I found Cause You're Special's Pound Cake mix and it's great--the chocolate one is good, too. You simply add butter and eggs, and you're good to go. I love it, and it's satisfied my pound cake need

    ARCHIVED Nuvaring

I'm so thankful for this thread because I've been off BC for awhile, as I hate taking anything that's not "natural," but my periods are out of control, so I think it's time to go back to some form. As far as Depo is concerned, I DO NOT recommend it. I went on it a few years ago and had my period for four months straight and ended up with anemia as a result...
  11. It could mean that you're still getting gluten, as I know some people have that symptom. Have you checked your products (shampoos, lotions, toothpastes, etc.--basically anything that has a possibility of being ingested) to make sure that they are all gluten free? If you are 100% gluten free, then it could just be your body adjusting to the change. I...
  12. The Enjoy Life brand has a few granola type cereals that have the highest fiber content I have seen in a gluten free cereal (I don't have a box on me right now, but there are several grams of fiber per serving). He might want to give those a try.

ARCHIVED Good Gi Doctor In Va?

I live in Blacksburg, too, and I was diagnosed a year ago by Dr. Ringold from New River Gastroenterology in Christiansburg. I have had really good experiences with him--I went there and explained my symptoms, and he immediately thought it was Celiac, and sure enough, it was. Very nice, down-to-earth guy, too. Hope this helps!
  14. I just arrived to my parents' house and was informed we are having corn pudding for Thanksgiving. My mom uses DelMonte creamed corn, which lists modified food starch as an ingredient, and it doesn't say what the source of the starch is. Anyone know if this is gluten-free? Thanks for any help!
  15. Thanks to everyone for their replies; I'm kind of bummed to hear that it's not that good. Ah, well--I'll try the Tinkyada and Velveeta route. Kailynsmom--I found the shaker Kraft cheese in Walmart. I forgot which section, though, as it's been awhile, but it was definitely in Walmart. Hope that helps!
  16. My local health food store just began carrying Annie's Rice Mac and Cheese (the one that is just like Kraft--noodles and orange dried cheese in a packet). What I like about it is that it says it's made in a dedicated gluten-free facility. However, before I spend money on it, has anyone tried it? Any good? I tried one like this right after diagnosis...
  17. Thanks, guys. Someone along the way informed me that one has to be cautious of certain rices in case they are stored near wheat. Since I'm so paranoid about CC, I listened Thanks, Tiffany, for the input on the rice blend. I'll try that this Thanksgiving.
  18. I'm going to try a rice stuffing this Thanksgiving since this will be my first gluten-free Thanksgiving for which I am actually doing the cooking. Does anyone know of a good gluten-free brown rice? I've been gluten-free for a year now, and I still haven't eaten brown rice, so I don't know of any. I just worry about CC issues, so if anyone has a tried and...
  19. Hi, Jen--I've copied my recipe below, which is from Pamela's Products. However, I will warn you that I have not made it yet but have been wanting to for a long time. I use Pamela's mix for most of my baking, and I haven't been disappointed yet, so I'm hoping this will be good, too. The banana bread I use from her recipes is excellent, so since this is...
  20. Thanks a lot for your help! That makes me feel much better; now I can make my pumpkin bread and pumpkin cookies without worry--thanks again!
  21. I use GNC's SoloDay. It's relatively cheap for a multivitamin (about $6 for 90 pills), and it is also soy free. It works great!
  22. Hi, everyone--I'm embarking upon my first gluten-free thanksgiving, and I want to make some pumpkin goodies. I worry about CC issues because I'm super-sensitive to gluten, so has anyone used Libby's canned pumpkin without problems? It says the only ingredient is pumpkin, and it's a Nestle product, which is supposed to label for gluten, but I'm such a worrier...
  23. Yeah, unfortunately I have the same symptoms when I ingest soy. And it's in everything! Even tuna fish that is supposed packed in spring water has soy in it. The bad thing is, too, that a lot of premade gluten-free products are made with soy flour or soy protein. And chocolate, too! Woe is me! I'm getting used to it, though--it just means even more...
  24. Oh, I love Cause You're Special products. My favorite mix is the pound cake mix. The chocolate pound cake mix is great, too, as is the brownie mix. The only mix I didn't like from them was their muffin/scone mix--very little taste, and I wouldn't buy it again (I much prefer Pamela's mix for muffins). But I love everything else I've tried.
  25. Minute Rice is made by Kraft, so they will not hide any gluten ingredients in their ingredients list. I eat Minute Rice without any problems. I would suspect the salad; even without croutons, there is always a chance of someone cross contaminating you if someone used the same utensils on the salad that had touched croutons, bread, etc. Hope you feel...
