  1. Yes - we have snow in Canada for 6-7 months. And not just a wee bit, either. So, whomever is willing to shovel, I'll do the cooking! Maybe you can get some decent seat sales.
  2. Tonight we are having: Buffalo Chicken Drumettes Oven-Roasted Onion Rings with Spicy Blueberry Ketchup Carrot Sticks and Sliced Cucumbers
  3. Ciao from one of those "silent celiacs". I, too, was in shock when the doctor told me I had it. I simply love food too much. Then denial crept in. At that time I thought I had no symptoms as I was healthy and did not feel ill. No GI symptoms. BUT in retrospect I attribute a few things to celiac: - several miscarriages - weak tooth enamel -...
  4. Vegetarian night: Rocket, Peppergrass and Baby Greens (from our garden) with Lemon Chive Vinaigrette, Toasted Almonds and Pumpkin Seeds and Aged Local Pecorino Mushroom Risotto with Sundried Tomato Pesto Strawberries with Aged Balsamic (the authentic syrupy balsamic)
  5. Oh, yum. Elk is incredibly delicious, isn't it? As my dad was a big-game hunter, I was practically raised on elk and moose.
  6. I have found wheat kernels as well as oats in dried lentils, unfortunately.
  7. I meant a resounding NO for #1 question. Not yes!
  8. I have found oats and wheat kernels in dried lentils and beans unfortunately.
  9. Like someone mentioned upthread I too have seen very few gluten-free cookbooks that offer anything different than regular cookbooks. In fact, so many of them contain naturally gluten-free recipes anyway OR just a simple conversion such as "use gluten-free soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce", that sort of thing. The only one I really like is Gluten Free...
  10. Maybe now I could hire someone to fan my face while I cook! We have no A/C in our house for some dopey reason.
  11. I forgot something for tonight - we bought some fresh sheep cheese from a local cheesemaker so I infused some olive oil with thyme, peppercorns, rosemary and garlic to drizzle on top. Not really in keeping with the Asian slant of the meal but I must use up this cheese somehow!
  12. If you make the effort to come, the least I can do is make dessert with those cherries. Maybe Cherries Jubilee or Cherry Clafoutis would work. See you in two hours!
  13. Sweet and Spicy Shrimp with Broccoli and Black Sesame Seeds Cellophane Glass Noodles Japanese Cucumber Salad Cherries
  14. I was a very healthy baby and kid growing up and a healthy adult until about two years ago when I had severe pneumonia. It is possible it was my trigger but it is not easy to say. My diagnosis was 16 months ago and came as a shock to me as I have never been ill other than the odd cold and that pneumonia. However, I do suffer from severe chronic pain from...
  15. My doctor tests me every six months. I do not know whether it is necessary but it gives me presence of mind. My doctor also monitors my vitamin levels at the same time. It may be a good idea for your daughter to be monitored as well.
  16. I was diagnosed 16 months ago and have been strictly gluten free for 15 months. I have absolutely no clue whether I have been glutened or not except for one instance that I know of and that was in the beginning. Though I feel no different, my regularly negative numbers are proof that I am doing well and my body is absorbing better than before (though I...
  17. British for my sister who is visiting who lived in Scotland: Bangers and Mash (local Cumberland sausages with buttery creamy mashed potatoes) Onion Sauce Minted Mushy Peas OK, these aren't British: Goat Cheese Drizzled with Garlic, Thyme and Lemon--infused Olive Oil with Pink Peppercorns Chocolate Crepes with Rose Petal Whipped Cream, Butterscotch...
  18. Finally back at home so am doing serious cooking/grilling: Korean Street Tacos with Spicy Sesame Dressing, Daikon and Toasted Peanuts Japanese Cucumber Salad I also made Roasted Red Pepper Hummus to go with raw vegetables. Oh, and I also made Strawberry Granita.
  19. It's awesome that you are using grape leaves. Our climate does not permit them but we have an abundance at our Croatia house. I also plan to use old grape vines to "smoke" foods on our outdoor wood burning oven. You have GOT to try the yogurt pie. MMMMMMMM. How sad about the Greek family retiring. Really good Greek food is hard to come by I find....
  20. Grilled ham and mozzarella sandwich. Fresh pluots.
  21. 1. Yes. I was always very healthy throughout childhood and into adulthood until just a few years ago. My miscarriages were a mystery to my doctor as well as my husband and I but I would never have linked that to gluten. My stomach was always fine - no GI issues, either. 2. No. After eating gluten I never ever got sick that I can think of. Even on...
  22. You bring up a good point. Sleep is crucial. I rarely sleep well due to pain (must get up and walk around because the tenderness nearly drives me mad). I have been taking Zopiclone for years when I need to and thankfully have not grown dependent on them. I limit myself to once per week and try even less than that. Wonder if I should try 5-HTP. Chronic...
  23. Oh, yum! This is a very delicious and traditional dolmades recipe for which you can use fresh or brined leaves: Open Original Shared Link Yogurt Pie (sounds weird but is delectable): Open Original Shared Link BTW, many recipes use either brined OR fresh that have been blanched a minute or two to soften. Don't forget to trim out the stems down the...
  24. Ciao from a fellow chronic pain and FMS sufferer for 4.5 years. My chronic pain is so widespread, from my neck to my ankles. Always. No reprieve. Much of it is due to herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, myofascial syndrome and IT band syndrome as well as fibro. I feel like I have been beaten with an iron rod all over my body. It hurts to lie...
