The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
love2travel replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am making pizza and topping it with fresh burrata, arugula, prosciutto as well as some of my pistachio pesto. -
You are going to have to get used to being assertive. It was a difficult lesson for me as well but after the first "no" the second "no" becomes easier and so on. It builds confidence. Whenever we have company, they are all rounded up into the kitchen where I explain the rules. The first time was sort of nerve-wracking (in laws) but now it is second...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Related Muscle Pain/discomfort
love2travel replied to Echen Alexander's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome here! I, too, have been diagnosed with FMS which is tough as I have herniated discs and such on top of that. It feels as though I have been beaten repeatedly with a baseball bat - I bet that is how you feel. Unfortunately after being strictly gluten free for a year the intense throbbing and pain has not subsided at all. It even hurts to put clothes... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Growing This Year?
love2travel replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lavender is nice in so many things, too, but it does not survive our climate. I tried growing it as an annual but our season is just too short. So, I resort to buying the flower buds instead. -
ARCHIVED Want To Make A Gluten-Free Chili
love2travel replied to Helskore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree! Cumin is essential. I buy dried chiles and whole spices and grind them to make my own blends. I do not buy any seasoning blends, actually, as they all are easy to make. And fun (at least for me!). -

Yes - I just love turning inexpensive cuts into something divine! Definitely the best (and only) way for many cuts, that is for certain. -

Good for you! You will find that so many things are very easy to make gluten free. Most mains, in fact, are naturally gluten free anyway. Just because we have celiac it does not mean we have to be restricted to blah foods. We can enjoy fantastic foods (except for those who have so many other restrictions which is so sad). -

I'm honestly surprised I don't weigh 300 lb because we eat like this about six days of the week. Often seven. But I try to keep our diet balanced (not always). Man, sorry you can't have chorizo. I love the stuff. Oops - I meant that chorizo sucks. Dull. Boring. Predictable. -

ARCHIVED gluten-free German Chocolate Cake

There is no reason why it should not work. I convert recipes to cakes and cookies regularly without any problems at all. Same with cornbread, quick breads, brownies... -
ARCHIVED Non-Food Ways Of Celebrating Birthdays/Events
love2travel replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is there a science centre or cool museum to go to? No food involved there! IMAX theatre? Anywhere to make pottery or other crafts together? Our town is small so none of these is available here but they can actually be a lot of fun. I was going to suggest paintball or rock climbing but it may not be the smartest idea for the less youthful people! -

Believe me, you can have wonderful gluten-free cookies that look and taste exactly like gluten cookies. Cookies are very easy to make gluten free. Not just cookies - most things, actually, so you don't have to feel deprived. I love food more than anyone I know so I understand. Not only that but I eat for every reason out there - when I am tired, when... -

That is AWESOME! I'm so glad you did it with lobster. Once you've had fabulous macaroni and cheese there is no way you'd want to go back to packaged stuff. Mushrooms are a great idea - I have not done that. When cooking my goal is to make every single dish taste as good as it possibly can. I inject everything with as much flavour as I can. I do... -

Is it ever. It is so gratifying as well. There's nothing like going to your garden to pluck something fresh. Not only that but it gives me such pleasure to watch my "babies" sprout! I literally go outside several times a day to see how things are progressing. I just have to wait a month to start planting then things will grow like crazy with all our... -

Pavlova has been one of my favourites since I was a child. You can make individual pavlovas, too. I like to fill them with lemon curd, vanilla bean buttercream and stack high with lots of fruit. Blackberries and blueberries have an afinity with lemon. I suddenly have a craving! -

Brilliant! Love it. -
Chocolate is one of the very few things I could take or leave. If I were given a choice of chocolate or vanilla it would definitely be the vanilla. For that I am thankful! I do feel for those who love it and suffer from problems with it.

ARCHIVED Planning A Trip To Italy
love2travel replied to Lisa's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I know you say you do not fly but I encourage you to jump into it and do it. My paralyzing fear of flying is due to extreme pain that I suffer when I fly. It is debilitating and outright agonizing. We fly to Italy/Croatia again in two weeks and I am thrilled but the closer it gets the more worried I become. I make myself do it because Italy and especially... -
ARCHIVED Planning A Trip To Italy
love2travel replied to Lisa's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Lisa, so happy you are going to Italy! I've been to Italy many times. We go there twice each year and love it to bits. Yes, it is very easy to do it independently. I once went with my girlfriend and we were just fine. Usually my husband and I go together and we are a good team when it comes to driving and navigating, even without a GPS. You may... -

ARCHIVED What Are You Growing This Year?
love2travel replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Believe me, if we had the climate for it, I'd grow it. There is absolutely no chance for it here. Thankfully it is so cheap to buy! Ah, yes. Just thought of one obvious herb I had previously forgotten - mint. A few varieties, actually. -
ARCHIVED Housekeepers - How Much Do You Pay?
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It IS a lot of fun! I limit my classes to 10 people as they are very hands on. I would not want to live in a mansion, either. I just do not like what they often represent - ostentation. I live in oil country in Alberta where there are tons of very, very wealthy people. To clean some of those houses would take several people quite awhile....
