  1. Creamy Roasted Poblano and Potato Soup Homemade Multi-Grain gluten-free Baguette Cherries
  2. Yep. I make all my own sauces, ketchups, mustards - almost everything. This recipe calls for commercial mayonnaise but it is better with homemade which is soy free. Last time I made it I did not have pickles on hand so I used pickled asparagus (minced). It was even better than cucumber pickles. Delicious! Don't skimp on the capers. They are key. Do...
  3. Grilled Tuscan Lamb Chops (garlic, rosemary, thyme...) Spicy Tomato Quinoa Grilled Zucchini with Herb Oil
  4. Mmmmm...lemonade in a smoothie. Sounds lovely! Winging it is delightful, actually, and I do it often. In fact, I usually use recipes for ideas and as guidelines and cook on my own. However, I do use recipes for most baking.
  5. Very good eats tonight... Grilled Double Cut Pork Chop with Apple Calvados Pan Sauce and Blackberry Gastrique and Crispy Leeks Roasted Baby Potatoes and Leeks with Creamy Dijon Sauce Apple-Glazed Baby Carrots Individual Pavlovas with Blackberry Compote and Raspberry Sorbet I'm thinking lamb tomorrow.
  6. I've been having smoothies almost daily for several months - a great way to get my calcium, fibre (flax) and fruit. One of my favourites is mango-banana-lime with coconut milk. All fruit frozen and cold milk to make it super thick, like soft ice cream. Black cherry with pomegranate is divine! Another favourite of mine is raspberry peach (i.e. melba).
  7. And here I thought everyone outside the prairie provinces were already eating their own produce. In Croatia we enjoyed freshly-dug potatoes, peas, cherries, zucchini blossoms, green beans and so on. It was wonderful!
  8. Really? Just yesterday? Whew - it's not just me!
  9. I agree wholeheartedly. Like you, my D3 levels were extremely low. Just spent time in Croatia/Italy and was in the sun a fair amount (not sunbathing - I detest that) but just walking and doing things. Not that using sunscreen and wearing a hat would contribute to D. I mean VITAMIN D. By the way, our snow has melted ( ) and most trees have their...
  10. Grilled Orange Balsamic Glazed Pork Shoulder Chops Quinoa Tabbouleh Steamed Green Beans with Candied Almonds
  11. Potato spaghetti with sundried tomato sauce. Nectarine.
  12. I have fair skin and cannot lie in the sun; however, I spend time outside, go for walks and so on and do get Vitamin D the natural way. But for me it is not enough - my values are still too low.
  13. What everyone said is true. It is really very simple; in fact, I would rather undergo an endoscopy than a trip to the dentist! My doctor told me a person is technically not "put under" but given a memory-erasing drug. The last thing I remember is the doctor showing me the tube (I asked to see it) then the next thing I knew I was in recovery and...
  14. After bloodwork, my doctor started me on 5000 (D3) iu per day. It took nearly a year for my values to increase a little. I am now taking 4000 per day and my doctor is closely monitoring me. But then I have chronic pain which is a factor as well. Every body is different. This is something your doctor should know and help you with.
  15. Raspberry and peach smoothie. I'm on such a smoothie kick at the moment.
  16. We're heading to Spain tonight: Pinchitos Morunos (spicy Moorish kebabs) Ensaladilla Rusa (Spanish potato salad) Cubes of Manchego Red Onion and Orange Salad Grilled Zucchini with Fried Capers and Fresh Mint
  17. Isn't homemade mushroom soup awesome? It is a revelation. I cannot recall when I last bought a can of soup - it simply is not necessary.
  18. We are grilling tonight: - porterhouse steak with chipotle compound butter and grilled portabello shrooms - baked potatoes with bay leaves - grilled (marinated) zucchini and red pepper skewers - grilled watermelon with mint vinaigrette
  19. Still jet lagged so am having a simple lunch. Grilled tuna sandwich with lots of capers and lemon juice. Used Schar bread I brought back from Croatia. The bread was not terrible.
  20. Believe me, I know exactly where you are coming from. I was there myself when I was diagnosed a year ago. The first few months were very sad, especially when I made bread and so on. And I am the biggest food person there is - I dream of it. Think of it constantly. Write recipes while awake and asleep. Heck - I teach cooking classes and am a professional...
  21. It is hard to believe, isn't it? Man, I love Europe. Too much. Oh, the food! The availability of wondrous ingredients within miles astounds me. As our house is near the sea we have all sorts of sublime possibilities. Already practically counting the days until our next trip (end of September). Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday will be a fancy pants...
  22. Peach and lime smoothie.
  23. Just got back from nearly a month in Croatia and Italy. It was AMAZING! We had the time of our lives (as we usually do in Europe). It is not easy coming back but it is life. While away, we had such fantastic fresh food. Will share on another thread. Sort of jetlagged so am making it easy tonight... Korean Sweet and Spicy Shrimp Mung Bean Noodles...
  24. The leaves are not out yet and nothing is blooming. However, my allergies are always bad this time of year from snow mold and dust. Not so this year for the first time in ages. Hallelujah!!
