  1. Yes, it is heavenly. Almost hard to imagine. Even more difficult to express in words! You will just have to come and see it. My cousin who was born and has lived in Germany his entire life has traveled to over 100 countries and he maintains Croatia is his favourite.
  2. She could be called Tira or Tiru for short. Then you could even whistle for her to come! Better than Sway, a newborn girl's name in the birth announcements in the paper. Might as well call someone Minten or Flaven or Sloven.
  3. Leftover roast shoulder of lamb but am switching it up by making mint sauce. Not the icky grocery store kind, the REAL kind. Now that the roast baby potatoes are gone, we will be having sweet and spicy lentils (sort of like barbecue beans or whatever you southerners call 'em) and grilled zucchini and feta salad with fresh mint et al. Guess what we...
  4. That is SO funny because as I was reading this I was hoping you would mention a galette or clafoutis. But I am SHOUTING, not whispering. Caught your Rebecca reference. We're full of wittiness these days.
  5. My dietitian is very well versed in celiac matters and has been very helpful in my journey. After I was diagnosed, she helped me set a plan to follow to ensure my body is getting what I need. She also weighs me to keep me accountable (my request). She is simply amazing. Every single person who is diagnosed with celiac in our town is referred to her....
  6. That is a delicious combo. I am growing lots of arugula again this year as we go through a lot of it.
  7. Blueberry pomegranate smoothie. Er, with soft ice cream texture. A few peanuts.
  8. That's ok - I prefer British over any other mysteries (i.e. Daphne DuMaurier, Agatha Christie). Plus I am not American, I am Canadian. Intriguing endings are great. There are many of those in the Anne Perry Victorian mysteries, too.
  9. What a tremendous thing to be able to say that about where you live. Unfortunately I cannot - it is not a pretty town whatsoever. Except for our park which I love but it is not very established so the trees are not large. However, our house in Croatia is a different matter. That is our piece of paradise. An old stone house nestled in thick forest surrounded...
  10. I can't dance at all, nor can I sing, so if you sing and dance whilst making tiramisu I'll be impressed.
  11. I was just about to suggest that you make the tiramisu since this is YOUR thread after all! Well, our thread, but you know what I mean... Richard? Do you hear that? We expect your mind to absorb like a sponge. Get it? Ladyfingers? Bourbon? Ah, never mind. I'm in a very strange mood today.
  12. We understand. This comes from someone who got tears in her eyes upon seeing gluten-free Chex and Rice Krispies. And the words gluten free on a menu. Heck, you should have seen me the first time I was served gluten-free brioche at bread service at a restaurant! I almost lost it. Thankfully no snorting happened. My kind husband understands me so...
  13. You guys are too cute. I was kind of hoping I might cook you dinner and perhaps even bake the tiramisu, including the lady's fingers, which are easy (albeit a touch finnicky) to make. All you'll have to do is buy all the ingredients, do the dishes and clean up and entertain me.
  14. Do you like to bake? If so, you know what to do! If not, does your wife?
  15. Foodislife, a very good restaurant should be able to do this. At high-end places flour is rarely used anyway - sauces are usually lighter or reductions/glazes. I almost never use flour to make my pan sauces - not necessary. I've been told this by several places and have successfully trusted them IF I am satisfied with their responses to my grilling on...
  16. Good. For a moment there I thought I had accidentally ingested gluten or something!
  17. Vydor, after numerous unsuccessful attempts at responding to your post, all I can say is WALK AWAY FROM OLIVE GARDEN. Wait - I mean RUN. That is NOT tiramisu, nor even a reasonable facscimile. After having it many times in Italy and making my own, that stuff OG serves should not even be on a menu. Hang out with us - we'll take care of you.
  18. OK. I've finished choking now. You, Irish? Are you sufficiently breathing?
  19. I'm coming but can I cook? I miss it too much when I am away from home. Maybe give me my own little designated area in your kitchen?
  20. I make it several times a year and enjoy it. The texture is nothing like pasta so do not expect it to be. However, it is still very tasty and far healthier. There are so many yummy things to add to it (that are not quite as healthy such as butter and maple syrup) but one of my favourites is simply olive oil and sage leaves (of course S and P). Just flake...
  21. You are now part of our family, like it or not. I, too, have read so many horror stories on here (including yours) and am saddened by what you have had to go through. These are LIVES we are dealing with! I am so privileged that my doctor is one of the few good ones. I think I'll keep 'im! Welcome here.
  22. It took six months for me. I still limit my dairy to aged cheeses (or goat's cheese).
  23. Homemade pasta and sauce! You just knew I would say that. I make my own and am making more tomorrow. Have tried both rice and corn pastas - blech. There is one brand I tasted that I do like and that is Udon King. You can get buckwheat, millet with brown rice, sweet potato...and it does not get mushy or clumpy, either.
  24. That is true. My doctor told me I must eat gluten for at least 3 months and eat the equivalent of 3 pieces of bread per day. It was easy for me but not for many of you.
  25. YUCK! Sorry - I do not mean your lunch but your weather. We are at a perfect 15C at the moment. This is my ideal temp where I feel most energized and healthy. I hate our -40C and our +35C extremes.
