  1. It is so bad at times that I lie there whenever I hear a door slam just wondering if tonight will be the night! I've called over there to ask them to kill the party and once got sworn at up and down. Whoever answered the phone told me that I could never ask for better neighbours and that they were the best, etc. I simply hung up without saying a word because...
  2. Yes - we are looking into various security options.
  3. I so admire crafty artisans and quilt making has fascinated me for years. Guess what? I am currently reading a murder mystery quilting series! If you like light reading let me know.
  4. Great idea - I should freeze my greens. I like to make my own stock, anyway, so thanks for the idea. I am usually very good at using things up but sometimes not so much. I tend to buy too much to begin with, especially at specialty food stores, where there is produce I dream about. Then I grab those fresh kaffir lime leaves, banana leaves, geoduck, goat...
  5. My list of goals is pretty daunting and some are likely not to be met. However, I am ambitious and have lots of time on my hands. I would rather be busy than lie down and worry about my dumb pain. Anyway, I would love to have you over! The middle of January would be nice - you would get to experience our fabulous winters (you know, square tires...
  6. My gardening zone is a balmy 1a! On average we get 80 frost-free days per year. Imagine that?! No wonder I cannot wait to move to Croatia (our area is zone 8-9).
  7. My biggest project is to learn a new language, Croatian. I ordered books and CDs which say it takes seven years to speak it fluently and two years to understand a fair amount (all with a lot of consistent practice). This is a long project but I began it yesterday after my first workbook and CDs arrived. Another goal is to do more sous vide cooking...
  8. Want to hear nightmarish neighbour stories? Our neighbour is UNREAL. It is a household of four; the husband and wife are about 45 and the kids 18 and 19. Guess where they hold their frequent parties? In their GARAGE which is literally 10 feet from our house. But it is not an ordinary garage. It has a stage, strobe lights and HUGE speakers all over. ...
  9. They are the best I've tried (and I've tried MANY). As it says in the instructions, allowing the dough to rest 36 hours really does make a difference. I've been experimenting!
  10. As I was typing I kept thinking of more and more meals and before I knew it my post grew longer and longer! I have thousands of ideas floating around in my head but wanted to post simple ones that do not require much work, effort or unusual ingredients. Your compliment is surely appreciated!
  11. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with your research into celiac and your grasp of it at the age of 17. You are certainly far more mature than I was at that age! It sounds as though you are both blessed to have each other. All the best to you and your healthy relationship. Just think - that THIRD kiss will be even better!
  12. How great to have a trustworthy place near you! We have some very good places, too, but they are all a three-hour drive away. Still worth it, though, for a treat.
  13. I think I have but will do so here, anyway, in case it was all just a dream. They are chewy and delicious (and I'm pretty darned picky). Open Original Shared Link
  14. Scotland would be my pick if I were to re-marry (which I won't! ). I wish I had been there before I got married as I would be all over getting married and staying in a proper castle. We've been there five times but not since my celiac diagnosis. It would certainly be interesting to see it from a gluten-free point of view. How is the UK with labeling...
  15. Well, I was able to consume enormous amounts of gluten without getting sick at all but because my bloodwork was positive and biopsies indicated my villi were flattened, I have been strictly gluten free for nine months and will not even think of trying gluten. Reason? Even if I do not FEEL sick from gluten, my villi would be seriously damaged and I want...
  16. Oh, darn it. Companies with that labeling really concerns me - I see that here, too. Those dummies!
  17. Just so you know there is a fairly high false negative rate in bloodwork results - up to 30% from what I have heard and read. And the colonoscopy does not test for celiac but an endoscopy does (or gastroscopy as we call it in Canada). But in order for that to happen you must be eating the equivalent to 3-4 pieces of bread per day for three months and get...
  18. How about pork ribs? You can make a quick and easy dry rub, keep them refrigerated overnight and slather them with a barbecue sauce (I make my own but you can use purchased, of course) and roast at low heat for about three hours. A great side would be oven roast potatoes or sweet potato fries. Maybe a quick coleslaw and brownies for dessert. Sort of summer...
  19. A big fat congratulations on your upcoming wedding! My husband and I did not do a destination wedding but we have sure traveled the world since we've been married! From personal experience I can highly recommend countries in Europe, especially Italy. It is mandatory that every person gets tested for celiac by the age of six. So, they are extremely...
  20. My GI doc and dietitian told me the same thing. Just as long as it works out to roughly the equivalent to 3-4 pieces of bread per day it should do it.

  22. You are definitely NOT a whacko! Not even close. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, too, and wonder about it at times. However, I still have severe chronic pain from an accident four years ago but the last two years (especially this past year) the pain has changed somewhat. It feels like I have been hit by a truck. No, wait - a big ship - at full...
  23. Your dinner sounds lovely and your husband even more so! Mine is that way, too - he spoils me to bits! His support is unwavering and that is definitely something to be thankful for.
  24. That does look similar as they both have 2 hp. The VitaMix blends up to 240 mph and is major heavy duty! But I do normally buy my rice flour as it is so incredibly cheap at the Asian store I go to every month. The rice flours at Asian stores are also finer than those in grocery stores - I really prefer it in recipes. My VitaMix is better with nuts, juices...
  25. Have you tried Better than Bouillon? It is a very thick paste that comes in jars and is actually made with chicken so it is meatier than other commercial broths/stocks I have tried. Many of their flavours are gluten free such as beef and maybe even the lobster. There are several gluten-free flavours. Just another option. Looks like you have many...
