ARCHIVED I Had Hoped To Never Return To This Place
love2travel replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been away for a few days so have joined this a bit late. It is difficult to add anything to the advice you have already been given. You and I went gluten free at nearly the same time. I, too, do not feel any different or better and in the back of my brain occasionally wonder whether my diagnosis was correct. Although I do not feel ill at all from... -
ARCHIVED The Great 2012 Freezer/panrty Clean Out
love2travel replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That was probably me who mentioned an overflowing pantry. Without exaggerating one little bit it would take at least a year to get through it. For example, I have nearly 100 spices; about 20 kinds of dried chiles; 18 finishing salts; 28 flavoured vinegars; 12 kinds of oil; lots of preserves I've made, etc. We also have two freezers full of other things... -
The lamb is authentic! They definitely eat a lot of it. I love to add pomegranate molasses to many Arabic/Syrian/Turkish dishes. It is fabulous and underutilized.

We are dog/housesitting in the country so I am restricted with the ingredients I brought along. Simply this: James Beard Old Fashioned Meatloaf with a Blueberry Ketchup I will be making Hasselback Potatoes with Garlic, Thyme and Bay Leaves Roasted Cauliflower with Mustard Seeds and Cumin Might throw something together for dessert. If not, fruit it... -
ARCHIVED Winter Projects And Goals?
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We definitely have been down a very painful road, haven't we? I am so much like you in that I am extremely stubborn and motivated and absolutely REFUSE my pain to take over my life. Two years ago it did and I sulked and felt sorry for myself and planned every single outing on how I thought my pain would be in two hours or whatever. Now I just go ahead... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Mentally Cope With Celiac?
love2travel replied to mtdewpeg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is ALWAYS hope. Never think there is not. I understand what you are saying because I was there. After my celiac diagnosis I was in shock and went through several stages: anger, sadness, grief...and it is very normal and natural. I gave myself permission to walk through each, no matter how long it took. It took me a couple of months to... -
ARCHIVED Winter Projects And Goals?
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just thought of another project. I do intricate counted cross stitch on linen (about 32-40 count) and have not done it for a couple of years because it is just so darned painful to sit. But going through all my various linens and massive detailed patterns has excited me again. So, even if I can sit and do 20 minutes a day it is better than nothing! -
ARCHIVED I'm Tired Of Cooking!
love2travel replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
And I am just the opposite I suppose. My Mom reminds me that I was born with my fist in my mouth. I have been passionate about food since I was 6 when my aunt gave me my first cookbook. I cooked up a storm - simple things, of course, to begin with. The thing that saddens me is that people rarely invited me over to eat (before this celiac stuff especially... -

You're not a whiner - just had a less than stellar day! We all have those days. That is a lot of extra hours - no wonder you are so tired. My husband is a chartered accountant and senior partner of the firm and works 80 hours a week for about 20 weeks straight each year and he gets EXHAUSTED! So, he could certainly relate to you. That is one reason why... -
ARCHIVED Need Ideas For A No-Fail Meal For Family Gathering

Not sure how many but I think you were the first!! Just thought of something else to add to the list of food ideas - a pizza party! You could make a few crusts in advance and have people add their own toppings (if your grandparents go for that sort of thing). I think it could be fun! And for dessert maybe you could have an ice cream bar with... -

Ummmm...not so much to pluck. Hey - besides popsicles I could drizzle some maple syrup over some snow! Man, I always seem to be thinking of food. -

There definitely is nothing wrong with Breakfast Suppers!! You are about 90 degrees warmer than us right now. But we are having an exceptionally mild winter - normally it would be about -32F but we are lucky. -
Oh, I am so sorry that you are going through such a rough time. When I was first diagnosed it came as a huge surprise as I found out through screening that I had celiac. I did not believe it and was in denial. I love food too much and thought there was no way ever I would give up gluten. Well, until my doctor told me I must and ordered that I also get...

Want to hear funny? It just finished snowing a few inches - our neighbour did his driveway, the person next to him and the person next to us and skipped ours. Believe me - I would never expect anyone to do our driveway but it is just a tad obvious. Methinks he does not like us very much. -

Funny. We already have one. I'll let you know when the big blizzards hit - so far we've just had normal snowfall. Sometimes the drifts are so high we have to shovel out of the house and walk on top of the drifts! Fun for kids but not for us. -

Man, how I would love that! So would my husband. Shoveling and using the snow blower are not his favourite activities from a long stressful day at work. -

ARCHIVED Winter Projects And Goals?

I know what you mean. That is why I almost felt weird typing out an exhaustive list. I am in constant pain and have days where I cannot walk. But I refuse to allow it to prevent me from doing what I love. I find when I do things it helps take my mind off pain. But sometimes you simply hurt too much to do anything. -
ARCHIVED A Celiac Destination Wedding?
love2travel replied to Chanahan-6's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh, we are returning alright - just unsure of when because we have a house in Croatia and are having such fun exploring that and surrounding countries. But it is high on our list. I refuse to allow my celiac to affect traveling and enjoying other countries. -

Well, anything to get out of here is nice. Thankfully we often get to dog/house sit at our friend's GORGEOUS log house in the country for breaks, too. Which is precisely where we are going for a week beginning tomorrow morning. It is still close to town for my husband to commute but it is so peaceful and pretty out there with all the snow, lights, wreathes...
