ARCHIVED So Disappointed With Medical Profession Right Now...
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Perhaps replying to wrong post? I didn't mention 1 bm above? I disagree with this though - I think different people will have different requirements for what is comfortable and "normal". -
So after 5 days gluten-free, I'm suddenly getting severe reactions to milk. I wasn't lactose-intolerant before going gluten-free, I was happily having milk with cereal, extra glass of milk each day, yoghurt, cheese on everything etc. Yesterday, every time I put something dairy-related in my mouth, my stomach got upset, intestines churning after an hour...

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal And The Thyroid
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info, my theory was wrong Swelling is down so it must've been a temporary thing, and still not sure if it was even thyroid related. -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed And Things Have Gone Downhill
Marz replied to julandjo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's a long shot, but some people react to the nightshade family of plants, which includes potatoes and green/red peppers, believe it or not. Try swap potatoes out for rice and see if you feel any better? Also check out what's on the nightshade family, some veggies might be included there. I always recommend keeping a food journal to see if your symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Do You React To Different Gluten Sources Differently?
Marz replied to ellie10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's quite possible you have a dairy intolerance. Dairy makes my nose run like mad. When I eliminated it in a trial a few years ago, my constant nasal drip disappeared within a day. Eating/drinking dairy afterward had a very noticeable reaction within a few hours. So yes, diary can cause sinusitis or make nasal drip a lot worse. Pity I can't give it... -
ARCHIVED Might Be Gluten Intolerant. What To Do?
Marz replied to down-under's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there and welcome I've had a similar experience to you - my problems started in 2007 with fecal impaction. At the time the specialist I saw was a sharp guy, and he could feel the "build-up" and prescribed osmotic laxatives to flush out the colon. For impaction, you *don't* want to use normal fibre laxatives because it can make it worse. If he... -
ARCHIVED Is This Really Celiac?
Marz replied to Aeva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You'll find from reading the responses on this forum, it can take a few months for your gut to heal. And writing from personal experience, you could have other food intolerances/allergies that are causing the diarrhea. I don't have a celiac diagnosis, am also trying gluten-free for the first time. But from keeping a food journal for a few months a... -
ARCHIVED So Disappointed With Medical Profession Right Now...
Marz posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I waited a few days before posting my results, because I'm so frustrated and disappointed I thought I'd start swearing... I had my scope last week Wednesday, and afterward the gastro specialist spoke to me and said "Everything looks fine, some inflammation on the stomach". He thinks the diarrhea is caused by an irritable colon (IBS), and the stomach problems... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal And The Thyroid
Marz posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So as a quick update to my progress, I started the gluten free diet on Saturday, felt fantastic on the weekend, and then hit a wall on Monday. My "gluten withdrawal" symptoms (some of which overlap with my gluten-poisoning symptoms marked with *, but I'm fairly sure I've been strictly gluten-free) : - Nausea* - Depression, irritability, crying over... -
ARCHIVED Prediagnosis, Gi Appt Next Week
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ahaha, I know what caused the panic attacks. The doctor prescribed me some Maxolon after the scope, it's supposed to assist with nausea and dyspepsia by stimulating the stomach to empty quicker. Apparently a side effect is anxiety and a google search showed some people did report experiencing severe panic attacks. I'll need to keep that in mind in future... -
ARCHIVED Prediagnosis, Gi Appt Next Week
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Haha, love the comment. I was on a liquid diet the past two days for the scope, where I was really sticking to gluten-free yoghurt and custard etc. My stomach was obviously very happy with this. And then yesterday after the scope I had some yummy pizza, and then suffered the whole night from anxiety attacks, which the Librax did nothing to help with... -
ARCHIVED Prediagnosis, Gi Appt Next Week
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Raven, I know that's probably the best for me, but I'm firmly in denial at the moment, hoping that it's not gluten I really needed someone to tell me this, so thanks for the encouragement to try the diet. I'm going to go shopping this weekend and stock up on veges and non-gluten snacks, so hopefully I can start next week. -
ARCHIVED Prediagnosis, Gi Appt Next Week
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well scope is done, thank goodness. Took the entire day at the hospital waiting for my turn! Scope showed no ulcers, a bit of inflammation in the stomach. Waiting for biopsy results still. The GI says short of the biopsies showing something different, he feels I have non-ulcerative inflammation of the stomach, caused by slow gastric emptying. Diarrhea... -
Good to know it's a decent diet to go on long term. I think I might go this route because glutenfree breads are not readily available in South Africa, and I'm too lazy to make my own from the gluten free mixes. Though I will add some rice and potatoes to it.

This is quite odd - the past few weeks I've been specifically glutening myself in preparation for endoscope/blood tests. A few weeks into this, I started getting itchy spots on my chest and arms. It would not be associated with a rash or any DH-like blisters, just red skin and intensely itchy. One night the spot on my chest was both itchy and sore at the...

Thought some people might find this interesting. I'm typing this from memory - my stupid internet link is terrible today, and none of the sites are loading. So please do have a look if you're interested in these topics, and correct me if I'm wrong with any statements here There are quite a few proponents of a high-fat, low carb diet. The theory...

ARCHIVED Celiac?
Marz replied to hercules25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome Sorry to hear you've struggled with this for so long. I'd recommend trying a strict gluten free diet - you have nothing to lose but restricting yourself to certain foods for a few weeks. If you notice a huge impovement, you could let your doctor know about this, and maybe see if you still need the meds? I'm surprised your Gastro didn... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
Marz replied to JennyC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Aw shame, poor boy To have to go through this at such a young age... At least you know what the problem is. Hope he recovers from his glutening quickly. Honestly, at such a young age, clinical diagnosis shouldn't need gluten poisoning and biopsies/testing. Symptoms and withdrawal of symptoms on a gluten-free diet, with perhaps a challenge showing... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Testing & Validity?
Marz replied to vbecton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Bleh, I didn't think of the harm the test could do if someone doesn't see a doctor. I'm always one for getting checked out by a professional rather than self diagnosis. But when the diagnosis is as general as IBS, then I can see people turning to tests like these out of desperation for a cure. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Testing & Validity?
Marz replied to vbecton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well done on raising this issue, Skylark. I'm also with the skeptics on this one - if they're finding these tests are picking up gluten intolerance, why is it not more highly researched and documented? Is it because they're afraid that other companies and laboratories might start also performing the tests? Or because proper scientific studies may show... -
ARCHIVED Food Aversion/cravings
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
High as in 33 mmol/ul or something like that, and the upper range is 27. So not super high, I don't think, but definately above normal? GP doctor didn't say anyhing, just glanced over the tests and said "Yep, give these to your GI when you see him". The only reason I know it's high is because I looked at the results myself and saw that it was flagged on... -
ARCHIVED Food Aversion/cravings

I've found over the past 2 or 3 months I've become more and more averse to eating meat. I don't mind a small lamb chop or sausage, and I love minced beef fried with onion, but I struggle to finish large pieces of meat. It's gotten to the point where a large juicy piece of rump steak makes me ill to my stomach. I can't stand the smell of fish... -
ARCHIVED Prediagnosis, Gi Appt Next Week

Yeah... the librax wasn't helping for the stomach problems, was still having nocturnal d, cramps and pain. So I stopped taking it last night and only feeling slightly depressed today. To be honest, I don't think it had much effect on me, but then I wasn't really suffering from anxiety. The colofac the GI gave me doesn't really help either. 5 days... -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea In The Middle Of The Night?
Marz replied to LisaaaNoel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sigh, have had this on and off the past month. Usually around 3AM and lasting around 30 min for tummy to be happy again. Heh, can't be normal... I swear if my GI tells me it's IBS after negative biopsy I might be tempted to deck him. -
ARCHIVED Nausea Is Back! :(
Marz replied to misslexi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh my word, how ignorant can doctors actually be? If I was the doctor, and I didn't have a clue about the disease, I'd be referring to medical journals and latest pubmed articles to read up about it. Or perhaps he's using knowledge 3 decades old? I don't know... really the ignorance is criminal. My doctor ordered an IgE test for gluten in 20...
