Haha, success! I changed to a different (imported) mix - one of the Australian Orgran brands - and no reaction to the same biscuit recipe. Of course I still have a slightly sore stomach, but that's from eating too many tonight Yay for Australian excellence

ARCHIVED Confused And Frustrated
Marz replied to Arwen2k3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hehe, I like that term - gluten proponents. It's like there's a gluten-promoting agenda out there I agree with the above responses, only a gluten-free diet will really tell you for sure if gluten is the problem. But then you need to be as strict as if you were diagnosed with celiac disease. With your symptoms and family being diagnosed, it's only... -
Well done, so glad you had a great experience!

ARCHIVED Missed Periods, Anxiety, Milk Of Magnesia...
Marz replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No idea if milk of magnesia contains gluten. Maybe as a thickener? But then it should state that... Googling "Milk of magnesia panic attack" didn't really bring anything up, one person had bad panic attacks after consuming "Maximun Strength Pepto-Bismol". I know certain medications do bring out bad panic attacks in me - namely Maxolon (Evil, evil stuff... -
ARCHIVED Nausea?
Marz replied to missceliac2010's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get nauseous 30 min after eating nightshades, but never as I'm about to eat/start eating. Any other "stomach" symptoms like burping, stomach pain, acid reflux, heartburn? That would indicate an ulcer or something with the stomach getting physically irritated. It may not be related to what you're eating when you feel ill, might be your previous meal... -
ARCHIVED Help! Unexplained Scary Symptoms.
Marz replied to JessicaW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wish I got a penny everytime I read someone started having issues after pregnancy Pregnancy is often a trigger for starting to get symptoms. Mine was a viral infection/food poisoning. Even stress can be a trigger. It's always 'Hey I'm a healthy person, can eat whatever I like' to being as sick as a dog and no doctors can explain it. I hope you... -
ARCHIVED Help! Unexplained Scary Symptoms.
Marz replied to JessicaW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You don't need a doctor's approval to go gluten free. My blood tests and biopsy was negative, spent a fortune on doctors, couldn't explain any of my stomach issues, panic attacks, night chills/fevers. Went gluten-free anyway (Against doctor and GI's advise to "try introducing wheat again slowly, you're definately not celiac with those results!"). I... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Issues First Week Gluten-Free?
Marz replied to GypsyGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Were you badly const just before this? Sounds IMHO like a impaction that cleared. I've had a similar experience 0.o Also cleared without any further incident, but just weird. I also had liquid d in my first week of going gluten free. Since then, while I've been properly gluten free (and not challenging myself in some stupid attempt to prove to myself... -
ARCHIVED 1 Month Gluten Free - Still Some Hiccups
Marz replied to IveGotEffinCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I bring a plain/safe "meat" with me to work, and then heat it up and use my work-supplied cafetaria to add rice and a salad to it. You could ask them to cook up some plain rice/potatos/salad and add your own safe sauce/meat? Otherwise ask them if you can use the kitchen? 0.o You could use their ingredients, but working in a non-gluten-free kitchen might... -
I can share what I make myself for lunch? Depends on where you spend your day and have lunch - is there somewhere you can keep food in a fridge/warm up in a microwave? If that's the case, you can just take supper leftovers for lunch and that opens up your lunch to anything! Are you dairy free as well? I felt spare taking a tupperware of food to lunch...

I think this is a good suggestion. I've also found it interesting coming up with new ways to mimic my favourites, and some relief from the "Grief" in being able to make my own corn pizza base, rice biscuits etc. I'm working up to bread Now I just need to find a gluten-free flour mix that doesn't affect me... For example, toasted sammies - I found...

You're not the only one. :/ They're not nightmares, but I have disturbing dreams where I accidently eat gluten, or I'm just innocently eating pizza in a restaurant and sort of become "lucid" and say to myself "hey, I can't eat this!" - like what the hell! And then in the dream I'm all p-d off with myself for letting myself down, and when I wake up I'm so...

ARCHIVED Is It Normal To Still Feel Nauseous/stomach Pain After 2 Weeks Gluten Free?
Marz replied to cctaylor01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stimulants cause havoc in my stomach - nausea, stomach pain, cramps... So maybe go easy on the senna (if it is a stimulant, don't know the "Rite Aid's Senna Natural Vegetable Laxative" brand) - you really shouldn't need it now that you've possibly figured out your problem. Stimulant laxatives are bad to take long term anyway, as your intestine becomes dependant... -
Usually almost instantly to 20 minutes later I'll have a sore stomach - I call it a "punched in the gut" feeling, and it usually induces a run to the loo, even if not D. A few hours later to a day later I'll have a bad headache, one of those vice-like grip headaches, with or without back-ache. Around this time I'll also start getting random pains in...

Open Original Shared Link "Specifically, an allergic response may be triggered in people sensitive to the growth medium, usually corn, soy, or wheat. For example, residual wheat gluten has been detected on xanthan gum made using wheat" Makes me feel like we are never safe... Is it too much to hope that for the above gluten-free flour mix product...

I'm mystified as to what I'm reacting to in this gluten-free biscuit recipe I'm making. All utensils are gluten-free, never seen wheat before, and all ingredients *should* also be gluten free. However every time I eat one I get a sore stomach and feel a bit glutened, and I want to get to the root cause. I don't want to never be able to eat gluten-free...

aderifield - did you get a firm diagnosis of gluten intolerance? If not, are you going to do a gluten challenge at some point? Because you might find going back to gluten will be 10x worse that what you're experiencing now You might also want to investigate soy and casein intolerance, maybe you're still reacting to something else as well as gluten? ...

ARCHIVED What's The Science Behind Celiac Soy Intolerance?
Marz replied to Chakra2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well if certain gene mutations cause the body to produce antibodies in response to gluten, when not soy? Especially if they're similar structures. I'm wondering if there are some "soy" celiacs out there that are being missed because their body is producing antibodies to soy, and not gluten? Maybe that's why lots of blood tests are false negative -... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
Marz replied to kasey1953's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Woah, that's a very uneducated doctor 0.o I'm surprised he didn't do a IgE blood test (done for wheat allergies, not celiac) and call it a day when it came back negative for you! Agreed with the others, those blood tests you did are highly specific for celiac disease. You are producing antibodies against your own tissue. It's pretty seriously celiac... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Better But Still Lost More Weight!
Marz replied to notme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi notme I'm in the same boat, and I'm *slooowly* gaining weight, but at least it's happening. I managed to start gaining weight about 2 weeks or so after going gluten free, but then the damage in my SI might have been light. How long have you been gluten-free? Some people mentioned gluten causes fluid retention, so it might be the case that as you... -
So the past two weeks I was struggling with typical mild glutening symptoms. I was desperately trying to figure out what was causing it, what could possibly contain gluten... possibly the gluten free flours I was using... or some nuts that got CC'd? Now I'm starting to wonder, after reading that soy can cause similar symptoms. After my "gluten challenge...

ARCHIVED My Test Was Negative, But The Diet Works Wonders?
Marz replied to scuzy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Well done for finding your problem so quickly, you've probably saved yourself from a lifetime of other issues that usually come along with gluten intolerance I've also had negative blood work, but the ultimate test I think is feeling better on the diet. Ridges on fingernails - some experts on the forum would have more information, but... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Sick Of This
Marz replied to ouchmyintestine's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ah geez, I don't know what to say to help, but I can definately sympathise. I really hope going gluten free will clear things up for you. To share my experience, which sounds like it wasn't as bad as yours, but it truly felt like hell. I came down with a stomach bug or something, after a trip to Mozambique. Constant excruciating nausea, the big d, stomach... -

ARCHIVED Help With Some Symptoms
Marz replied to aeryn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never had a problem with sugar specifically, but for several weeks in the last few years I did have weird issues with eating. I would start eating and 2 minutes into the meal would feel "super full" even if I hadn't eaten much. It was kind of like bloating, with nausea, and I'd usually either stop eating or just eat lightly. It was never to the point...
