  1. I never suffered from constipation until I went gluten free My symptoms were always the other way, now I know how it feels to be on the other side, and I must say I now feel great sympathy for those that suffer from const every day. D: I've discovered that it gets a ton worse when I get accidently glutened. Like "traces of gluten" in a product can...
  2. Not sure if either have been tested. The one who was chowing down on cookies says he gets flu-like symptoms after eating wheat, and if he really pigs out his stomach will get upset. Obviously not serious enough symptoms to stop himself Not sure about the other person, haven't spoken to her about it. I should try and encourage both to get tested rather...
  3. So in the last few weeks of going gluten free, I've found out a few people from work are also "gluten-intolerant". The one was reported by someone else as "gluten free, but she sometimes eat wheat". The other was happily scoffing scones and muffins at our work function this week, and telling me the next day he feels pretty crap (Before eating another...
  4. Holy cow, that's interesting neuro damage right there... Have you heard of Open Original Shared Link (and that's caused by neuro damage by the way), sounds like something similar, though to a much, much smaller degree of course. I really hope that going gluten free will be the answer (or already has been the answer) for you for the depression and neurological...
  5. That's fantastic news, Connie! I think gluten can cause any neuro issue you can think of - if it can get into your blood, and affect nerves, it can do anything. 0.o
  6. Wow, that is very interesting. Would love to know what the mechanism behind that is, but sadly I think it's going to take many decades before science catches up with all our weird intolerances! Well done for noticing that! I found after going gluten-free, I would get nauseous after eating the nightshade family of plants (especially undercooked or...
  7. I'd be more worried about the "wheat" in "...made in a facility that makes products using wheat, soy, pecans, and HAZELNUTS." Definitely could have some CC there with the crackers. You can always buy some whole hazel nuts to try, I don't think you can definitely say based on this that you're intolerant/allergic to hazelnuts, since there was a gluten cc...
  8. Eh.. Dextrose is derived from grains, apparently usually corn in the US, no idea elsewhere. They are supposed to list wheat as the source if it's wheat-derived. What ingredients were in the crackers you ate? Did a quick google, and the lite salt is apparently gluten free Open Original Shared Link To be honest, I can get glutened from "gluten-free...
  9. Symptoms sounds familiar, definately could be celiac. Raised IgA levels? Did you get a copy of those tests by the way? If it was total IgA, that would be useless but raised IgA anti-gliadin specifically would be cause for concern ! did the tests done check for celiac disease? If not you can head to a doctor and insist on getting tested, especially...
  10. Tough call When is the endoscopy scheduled for? Hopefully your doctor can schedule it soonish so that she can go on the diet asap. I'm not sure how quickly the small intestine heals - perhaps if it's in a weeks time she can start going gluten free a few days beforehand? The villi aren't going to heal overnight...? Even being "gluten-light...
  11. Interesting question... Hmmm, still too new to being gluten-free to really know for sure. But over the past few weeks when I know I was glutened, I usually had nausea/stomach pain a few hours afterwards. Usually increased anxiety at night a day later or so. And up to 4 days later horrible d.
  12. Maybe this article on Celiac.com by Dr. Ken Fine will cheer you up. It certainly helped me when I got negative blood results: Early diagnosis of gluten intolerance He argues that current tests diagnose the disease too late. Compare it to catching heart problems early - you don't get "positive" results only when you've already had a heart attack...
  13. Oh don't get me started on celiac + anxiety Started having panic attacks out of the blue at the beginning of the year. The trigger was bad food poisoning, but I've been there before and never have I had *panic attacks* over feeling sick! Not a single attack since I went gluten-free, and it's definately a sign I've been accidently glutened when I start...
  14. Fantastic news, so glad that you're feeling better!
  15. From what I've read, black poo is upper GI bleeding - so stomach ulcer, or something in the small intestine. Bright red is probably hemmaroids (sp?) and nothing to worry too much about. I would definately recommend a trip to the doctor asap, and definately stress how bad it is - I don't think any doctor would take bleeding lightly. If you don't get...
  16. There's wide variation on how long it takes to feel better, just because the affect of gluten on each person is so radically different. For me personally, I noticed a huge difference within a few days - my symptoms were mostly GIT, and I don't think I've had the disease very long so my intestines might have recovered from the damage very quickly. ...
  17. hey there, hope you're still lurking around to see my answer. Have you been to a doctor to have the chest pain/pressure checked out? If you have and your heart is in good condition, then you have nothing to fear but the fear itself . Just wanted to make sure you got checked out first though. Regarding the anxiety, my panic attacks I think were fairly...
  18. I also have had random fevers in the past (before going gluten-free) but since they were usually accompanied by diarrhea, I would always figure it's yet another stomach bug. The last month before going gluten-free I had regular "chills" at night with diarrhea, even without a fever - just feeling freezing and uncontrollable shaking even wrapped in a blanket...
  19. Hey Raven, looks like you are psychic Was very sick this evening. Exactly the same as before gluten free - night-time d coupled with extreme pain, cramps and chills. Never had a *single* episode like this while gluten-free. Since I haven't had anything remotely different the past week, it's definitely the wheat on Wednesday that got me. Pretty...
  20. Hi there and welcome Sounds like you had a rough time with your pregnancy, so sorry to hear about your daughters issues, but I agree with Skylark - you shouldn't second guess yourself. No way to change the past, only improve on the future. It wasn't clear by your post, but I'm guessing you are aware that celiac's disease is an autoimmune reaction...
  21. Yeah, this happened to me when I went gluten free, and I'm on the pill (And no, I'm not pregnant haha)!!
  22. Lots of good advice on this forum regarding going gluten free. The best way to start is to only eat whole foods for a few weeks, and then slowly introduce processed food that you know are "safe" from reading the labels. That way if you suddenly feel ill again, you know it's from some processed item you introduced. Starting with "whole" foods also allows...
  23. Be careful of the "home industry" gluten-free stuff. I was ecstatic to see a whole range of gluten-free biscuits being sold at the local grocery store. A few days later started getting reactions I noticed when I was at the store, the range being sold by the manufacturer included biscuits with wheat ingredients as well as gluten-free stuff. ...
  24. oh wow, that's very interesting about the wheat connection to morning sickness. I've read somewhere that morning sickness is a protection mechanism for the baby - making the mom super sensitive to chemicals in food that could harm the baby. Not sure how true that is.
  25. All the best for the new baby, I'm sure you'll feel a lot better once you're not living for 2 Mine was definately a trigger. Although I had a bit of a "nervous" stomach my whole life, I could pretty much eat whatever I liked, and never had to worry about my weight ("Family genes", we called it, since everyone on my Dad's side is skinny. Hah! How true...
