ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, and as for the gluten challenge - I had some wheat for cereal two days ago, and some cous-cous yesterday. Both times I had stomach ache in the afternoon afterward. ("Glass in intestine" feeling). Strangely enough, no diarrhea, which I had expected. That's been the extent of my stomach problems, other than a "just not right" stomach feeling. However... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results

So I *finally* got to see my gastro, it takes forever to get these things done 0.o Biopsy from SI looked normal. He said the IgA test is not very accurate, and ordered a ttg test for me, which I should've had done in the first place. He's a bit old school - says celiac disease is uncommon, and he wants a definite diagnosis for me because apparently... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety!
Marz replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started having panic attacks after a severe stomach bug. I overcame it somewhat using the "Linden method" - just google it and you'll find his site. I found the program *very* useful in lowering my anxiety without drugs. When I went gluten free my anxiety greatly lessened and no more panic attacks I hope it is the same for you, otherwise... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease?
Marz replied to cusefan15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there and welcome I think it can take a while to start feeling 100%, especially if your vitamin levels are low. Many people recommend probiotics, digestive enzymes, liquid vitamins to promote a healthy gut and support your gut while it's healing. You might find that you have another food intolerance on top of gluten that's keeping you down... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Issues
Marz replied to Mr.GF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm, missing the comfort food at the moment. Some ideas - if your friend isn't dairy intolerant, you can get yoghurt, custard or chocolate - just check the labels for any suspicious starch labels, or phone the manufacturing company to check. Otherwise there's nuts, peanut butter, gluten free cookies should be available somewhere if you hunt them down.... -
ARCHIVED Is It All In My Head?
Marz replied to torimuse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't worry, you might find it's quicker than you think I started re-introducing as soon as I started feeling better, which was one week, and then reactions were almost instant. I'm still in the process of re-introducing stuff, but I'm only going to wait a few days until I feel 100% again, then try with the next food group. Hopefully you move soon... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until Challenge?
Marz replied to Heathers-garden's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The nightshade family is strongly associated with arthritis/joint pain. Try cutting out the family for a few weeks and see if it helps? Nightshades = potato, green and red pepper, tomato, eggplant and a few more. Have rice, sweet potato or yams instead of potato. I also second the soy suggestion, it's nasty stuff! (my humble opinion ) You could... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free 2 Weeks And Counting
Marz posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, so I'm finally feeling great. It's kinda been only gluten-free for 1 week, because I did 1 week free, challenged with some gluten, and then another week free. It's so weird what foods I'm reacting to now! It looks like dairy is actually ok! I thought it was a problem because I kept getting nauseous in the afternoons. Turned out *that* was the... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated - Want Confirmation!
Marz replied to mbon's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Heh, you need to have a chat with Raven blood tests and endoscopy can be negative even in the presence of severe celiac symptoms. You also went somewhat gluten free before tests which can affect the results. If the gluten free diet is helping, that's really all the proof you need that gluten is poison for you. -
ARCHIVED I'm So Confused...please Help
Marz replied to mamarie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Antibiotics, especially the strong ones for the GIT always make me feel worse. I get a really sore stomach, like a really "sour" feeling, and d. Just get through them, you need to make sure you finish the course now that you've started. And continue taking probiotics after meds are done to make sure bad bugs don't move back in afterwards. Make sure probiotics... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry for not being specific, I ordered anti-gliadin igA and total igA. Not sure what AGA is but they only had the ttg from the list of tests I had. It was a very frustrating experience, had to wait half an hour for them to look up the test codes and phone the lab for details on what the test required, so I unfortunately just went with those to hurry things... -
ARCHIVED Is There An Expert In Immunology Here?
Marz replied to poopedout's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the clear explanation. The immune down regulation also explains why cheating on a gluten free diet can be worse for your health than being blissfully unaware. Google for "celiac mortality in relatives" - there was an unexpected increase in death rate to partial adherance to diet compared to undiagnosed/total non compliance. At least that's what... -
ARCHIVED Is There An Expert In Immunology Here?
Marz replied to poopedout's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for asking this question, I'm keen to hear about these mechanisms as well. Just to throw in my 2 cents, though I'm no expert - the immune system is incredibly powerful. Think how quickly and violently an allergic person can react to peanuts, bee stings, shellfish? Sometimes even the smell of something can set off the reaction due to micro... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh well, I ordered IgA anyway. IgG wasn't available (They were like "Ig what??"). ttg was available but expensive. I didn't want to go with ttg only, because I was worried if I was in the beginning stages, I'd have IgA but not ttg yet. My reasoning was that if IgA is positive, that's enough for me to know I'm producing antibodies and I don't want anything... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Interpret My Test Results
Marz replied to sacket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Any and all of these symptoms I've heard linked to gluten-intoleranc\celiac, so you may be on the right track. Ok, let me take a stab at this. anti-gliadin antibody (iga) 14 U/mL (11-17 equivocal, >17 positive) Mid range - so you're making some anti-bodies, but not enough to mark you as "positive" by definition, but definately concerning... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok, so my doctor is awesome (GP not specialist) I went back to him telling him that the gluten-free diet has really helped, and that I wanted to get the tests done. He started talking about IgE gluten levels, and I corrected him and said that for Celiac disease - they test for IgA and IgG levels, it's not an allergy etc. So after a brief discussion... -
ARCHIVED Is It All In My Head?

Who needs eggs anyway? I get a very strong GIT reaction to eggs around 1 to 1.5 days after eating them, it's some sort of food intolerance. Even small amounts of egg in cake seems to get me now, so I'm also now egg free Kind of limits the breakfast options, but at least there's still bacon right! I unfortunately also react in a similar way to chicken... -
ARCHIVED Getting Desperate - Really Need Help
Marz replied to poopedout's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So sorry you had a bad experience with the doctors. I agree with the others - you don't need a doctor's diagnosis, go gluten free and start healing your body. My GI specialist basically labeled me with glee - IBS - before the biopsy results had even come through. Now going to see my normal doctor and insisting on a proper celiac blood panel test... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Quick question guys - I didn't want to start a whole new post for this. I'm going to get the blood tests done tomorrow - will the results be invalid from the gluten-free week? I'm really not keen to start wolfing down bread after yesterday. I'm definately going to insist on total IgA levels, since my IgE levels are low, not sure if there's a connection... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Marz posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So I purposefully challenged with gluten after a week feeling so much better off gluten. It was with cake, which was a mistake - should have gone with a plain piece of bread. So reaction was nausea and slighly upset stomach 30 min afterwards. I though, hey not too bad... And then the next day... Stomach started emergency procedures just after lunch.... -
ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance Or Glutening?
Marz replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a complete noobie when it comes to Celiac. But what I'd suggest, is to get back to the absolute basic whole foods for a week, and slowly one at a time, over a period of a few days each, re-introduce the processed items and see what's causing the problem? If you don't feel good after a week (or whatever time frame you feel is needed) of basic foods... -
ARCHIVED Is It All In My Head?

You're not crazy! Prior history of being able to eat anything - check. Sudden onset of GIT issues after a nasty infection - check. Completely clueless doctor diagnosing IBS without eliminating every possibility, and then prescribing fiber - check. Haha, check. Twice! Why do doctors not believe us when we say we don... -
