  1. Hi, Over the past year I have become really sensitive to coffee. So much that I totally switched over to decaf. Just wondering if anyone else had this symptom prior to being diagnosed with celiac. Did it improve after you were gluten free?
  2. Kraft makes a light ranch dressing that is gluten free. I was really pleased that I bought this before going gluten free and found it to be the only dressing out of about 10 I have in my cabinets that is gluten free! It's decent too!
  3. Hey Everyone, I've read some old posts about chocolate candy, but am not sure about the Almond Joy candy bars (mini size). I ate 2 of these today and my stomach did bother me a little, but Milk products are bothering my stomach right now since I just started gluten free as of this past Wednesday. Does anyone know the scoop on these now? Also...
  4. Oh My! I just read this thread and had a whole different experience. I was in a hospital as an outpatient for the procedure. There was an anesthesiologist who I dealt with instead of the GI doctor and I remember NOTHING! I went to sleep covered nice and neat all in a blanket and woke up in the recovery room covered back up in the same blanket. Whatever they...
  5. Thank you, I will go dairy free and see how it goes. I think I'll go with the prepackaged deli meats then. I can't imagine the deli people taking to kindly to me asking them to clean the slicer. They are usually busy with several orders to fill when I go. I'm curious about others experience at deli counters? How do they react when you ask them to clean...
  6. Thank you! You are life savers. I don't know what I would do without this forum and the nice people here. This is not easy to do and the amount of learning that has to be done at first about ingredients and products is monumental. I have a feeling dairy bothers me too. Just drinking coffee with a little bit of milk makes me burp. My breakfast...
  7. Hello everyone, I'm newly diagnosed officially as of this morning. I had positive bloodwork a few weeks back so I did buy some gluten free stuff and started preparing so I could go on the diet after my endo test today. Anyway, even though I felt pretty well prepared I just need to double check a couple things I've eaten today. Is all orange juice...
  8. Yay, I'm back! All in all it wasn't too bad. This morning was the worst because I was nervous and hungry, but once they put me out it was all over. I'm soooooooo glad to be home and eating and drinking my morining coffee! Looks like I belong here. My results showed scalloping of the duodenal folds, consistent with Celiac Sprue and I was told to...
  9. Citrical sounds good. Do you find that at a grocery/drugstore? I'm bummed about the Physicians Formula makeup. I know it's talc free and I was hoping gluten free too. Guess I'll have to return it for something else. I've used Almay mascaras before and they still bothered my eyes. Can't remember if it was the One Coat or not. It will be nice...
  10. Thank you jerseyangel and darkangel, I will let you know. I know I'm nervous now and wish it was done! I had a call from the hospital and they asked all kinds of medical questions so I'm glad that part is all done. She told me the whole procedure should only take about 15 minutes and I will get the results when they are done. I didn't realize I'd get...
  11. Hi, I had positive blood test results and am getting the other tests Wednesday. I thought it would be a good idea to start gluten free as soon as the endo/colonoscopy tests are through. Is there any reason not to?
  12. No need for apology! I didn't think that at all! Thank you for your suggestion about reading all I can. There is a lot to it and it can be a lot to handle. I think this is a great place and full of helpful people.
  13. I did have the celiac panel and know I am celiac. I had an ovarian cyst rupture in March and have had pains every time I eat food since then. The ovarian cysts are coming and going and are benign so we are going to do another ultrasound in about 6 months. But I think it set off the celiac disease in full force even though I do see now that I had some stomach...
  14. I visited my celiac sister yesterday and she had Redbridge beer. I can't tell you the last time I drank beer because I would always get a burning in my belly, stuffed up nose, and feel really bad the next day, and that is with only 1 or 2 beers. I tried one and could not believe I could still breathe clearly. I had to have another because I could not believe...
  15. Just curious, do any of the books mentioned list nutrition information like caloric content, fat content, fiber content for their recipes and portion sizes. I have the Cooks Fast And Healthy by Bette Hagman and although it seems like a great cookbook, there is no reference to portion size or nutrition content.
  16. I'll have to check and see if there is a Trader Joes or a Wild Oats near me, but I haven't ever heard of either. Great suggestion about amazon .com! I didn't even think about the super saver shipping - it will definately be cheaper to order things than drive an hour and pay the gas and tax. Thank you! I don't have a Wegmans near me, but I am visiting...
  17. Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the great information! I feel so much better being on this board and getting answers quickly. I stress over these things. I'd love to know more about the grits. I've had them several times when vacationing, but never cooked them myself. Is it like cooking rice? Do you make gravy with it and have a recipe for that...
  18. I've got 2 weeks to stock up and prepare to go gluten free. I have a Whole Foods an hour away and I wonder if it's worth driving that far to stock up on some food. Do they have a good selection that is not too expensive? I checked the local Walmart today and all they had was a brownie mix and a muffin mix which I did buy out of sheer fear that I wasn...
  19. I have relied on cereal and milk and fruit for years as my primary breakfast source thinking it was healthy. And I was able to get all the fiber I was supposed to on a daily basis. But, I checked some cereal prices for the gluten free cereals and almost fell over. I cannot afford to eat that almost every day. So, I guess my question has 2 parts. How...
  20. Hi, I have positive blood results, but am getting an endoscopy/colonoscopy in 2 weeks. Is there anything I can take now to ease the belly aches and pains I get after I eat. It's so hard to stay on gluten when I *know* I have celiac. I am so wanting to start the diet and feel better.
  21. I am still eating gluten now. I'm undecided on the endoscopy so I didn't want to risk messing that up if it's really best to do it. I'm sure the GI doctor I'm going to see tomorrow will be setting me up for the endoscopy, they already told me that on the phone. I'd rather go on the gluten free diet, if that's a reasonaable thing to do. Besides cancer...
  22. Hi, Long story short. I've had some female problems that landed me in an emergency room a couple weeks ago. Ovarian cysts or a kidney stone was probably the cause. I had abdominal pain and bloating and very sore stomach to the touch. While the Doctor was trying to figure out the cause they asked about family history of things and the fact that my sister...
