  1. I went "corn free", but continued eating hard candy etc. I finally cut out all forms of corn and I've had a few days of feeling like a human again! Why was I so stubborn? I feel like I've given up just about everything, but to feel like this, I will give up corn and all forms of it. I still have some discomfort, but I'm pinpointing it. I have a question to those of you who went corn free, have you been able to add it back into your diet when you started to heal? How long where you corn free? I know we are all different, but would like to hear from you. Thanks!

  2. ok, here is my confession:

i thought "really. getting glutened from kissing the significant other? preposterous!!" i really thought y'all were over the top and frankly, a little batty... ;) but, i refrained and was careful when it came to smooching the old man. untillllllll...........

    ok, here is my apology:

i was totally wrong! yes, you can get glutened by kissing your sweetie if he/she is eating/drinking gluten goodies! i didn't believe it. but i do now :/

my poor sweetie worked his hiney off to make sure i didn't get sick in a house full of relatives this past week. he made sure nobody put away leftovers in contaminated containers. he POLICED all cutting boards and mixing spoons. (LOL he contaminated an entire pot of marinara sauce by dipping italian/gluten bread directly into gallons of the finished sauce ("honey? what are you- oh. well, nevermind") without realizing what he'd done. i made giant pan of gluten-ziti with it for the masses and recreated said sauce gluten-free) so, when he was feeling all romantic, i didn't have the heart to make him go sterilize his mouth, thinking, SURELY NOT.... oh, well. who's got two thumbs and learns everything the hard way?? *this girl* :D

ps - also got glutened by lipgloss (organic - contains wheat germ oil...) two weeks ago. another 'myth' (in my mind) dispelled.

I got nailed with lipgloss with wheatgerm oil, but was told it was gluten-free orginally! Always look for yourself. It's a learning experience : ) the longer gluten-free the more we know.

  3. After everything I'd been through, my endo was a breeze. I had an IV and what I call the "happy juice" I don't remember anything from the time I was given that until I woke up. When I woke up, I went back to sleep because it was the best sleep I'd had in a long time! I would think if you don't respond to the normal sedation they would go from there. This was my second endo, and both were easy. Don't be afraid! The DR will spray some down your throat to numb it..mine said it was the worse part. It wasn't to me, but I'd been through so many test, painful and a surgery to get my DX. I'm a newbie so someone help me, would sedation be different for this poster than pain block? Just thinking??? Hugs!

  4. Even if they change gloves, they drag the bread in front of all the veggies/toppings. Any crumbs can fall into the veggies your salad is made from. I watched how they made my kids subs and I made a note to never eat at Subway.

  5. I need some help with vitamin suggestions targetting hair loss or other suggestions. I noticed a few weeks ago losing some, but now it's breaking off and I have a noticable spot. I use Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo, Suave Aloe Vera and ginseng conditioner, Garnier Fructis fiber gum putty and suave hair spray. To my knowledge they are gluten-free or have a missed something? I'm thinking it is more of not getting the right vitamins? Suggestions and help is most appreciated!

  6. I feel like this some days! I'm into my 6th month gluten-free and still have side pain and tummy troubles. I've gone from being in pain 24/7 to actually having a pain free morning until I eat or drink, then it's on. I've now been in some type of pain everyday for a year and I know how that can weigh you down mentally and physically. I've been gluten-free and given up a lot of food to feel better. It does make me sad some days and some days I'm just mad about having Celiac! My family told me they don't feel like they can safely cook for me for Thanksgiving, that made me sad, but at least they were honest. Sometmes I think I'll never be pain free, but I'm still hoping the longer I'm gluten-free the sooner I will be able to eat more and be pain free. It makes me feel better to come here and read that I'm not alone with not being about to eat certain things. Hang in there!

  7. I, my dear, am a true southerner. It doesn't get any more southern than Mississippi!

Make a pan of cornbread... use white corn meal and NO sugar. I make it the night before T'giving. Just wrap in foil and leave it on the counter.

Next day crumble the cornbread. Add enough chopped onion (raw) that you get at least one piece in every forkful.Add a little salt and enough black pepper to see the grains.

Stir in canned chicken broth or broth made from the neck and giblets of the turkey. You want it very moist but not soupy.

Don't stuff the turkey. Bake in a pan at 350 until golden, about an hour. Fifteen minutes before it is ready, drizzle with a little grease from the turkey.

This came down through my family.

Forget the plain bread. You will never miss it.

I'm in NC and my mother made "dressing" what we call stuffing around here. Yellow cornmeal into cornbread, no sugar.

She crumbled it, added celery, onion, turkey broth, salt, pepper, sage and poultry seasons then baked.

  8. Hello everyone,

I've enjoyed the Thanksgiving ideas, thanks! I've found with restricting what I am eating right now, salad dressings bother me. The corn and soy. I've been searching here for salad dressings I can make myself, could you great cooks share your favorite you like to make. I really miss my salads. I'm trying to think low fat as well. Thanks!

  9. Wow.. today my husband brought home a loaf of Sami's new gluten-free sandwich bread. It is amazing. I tried many gluten-free breads ,some better than others, but they all had that dense cardboard texture.. this one is moist and it tastes great..I've found the one .. eureka.

I think Samis was trying to get a gluten-free place, but the Sami bread I find reads on the back "may contain trace amounts of gluten" I was eating this when I first went gluten-free and had a terrible weekend! Does the bread you have actually have gluten-free on it? My dietition said this company has had CC problems in the past and not to eat it.

  10. After going free of alot of things including soy, I'm still having pain when I eat and bloat. I went for a follow up and he had just come back from a big gastro conference and had a seminar about small bowel bacteria overgrowth. That often gastros will through out IBS when it could be SBO. So, it seems my symptoms are in line with this. Anyone out there go through this? If so how did you do on the med and how long did it take you to feel well. Last question, were you able to add back certain foods you were avoiding?

  11. I'm going into my sixth month gluten-free. Keep a food diary to see what foods may be bothering you. I noticed brown rice at first. I also thought my lipgloss was safe, but found out it had wheatgerm oil in it this month. Don't trust a salespersons word for it, research it yourself. Look for CC in your own home if you have gluten eaters. Make sure you have your own toater, cutting broad, knives etc. Put your food on the top shelf and top shelf in fridge. I even have my own can opener. Look at your shampoo. lotions, meds as well. It seems overwhelming at first, hang in there!

  12. I haven't had oats in at least 6 months since I was diagnosed. But now that I ate certified gluten-free oatmeal by Glutenfreeda's, I had a classic gluten-related reaction that I used to get before I went on a gluten-free diet.

I've heard oats should only be avoided if they're not produced by a certified gluten-free manufacturer. This one is certified... So why did I have the reaction? Should celiac patients still avoid oats?

I was told not to try gluten-free oats until after being a year on a gluten-free diet. When I was told I had IBS I had a big bowl of oatmeal one day. It was one of the most painful days ever! I don't think I will try the gluten-free even at my year of gluten-free. I can live without the oats....After being in pain for 11 months, it's not worth it. Hate you're feeling bad from it.

  13. It was a little box inside an article called "BIG LIES ABOUT FOOD ALLERGIES". Ugh.

I read this also. The article mentions celiac in the last paragraph. It talks about wheat allergy and why some people "think" they need to be gluten-free. Then it was like..BTW some people have Celiac. At least that is what I took from the article. :(

  14. My first as well. It will be at my sisters house and we are working together to make sure the turkey will be gluten-free. I plan on making two sides that are gluten-free and bring some other things gluten-free for me. I'll take my portion out at home to avoid CC there. I'm making a crustless pumkin pie for myself as well. She is understanding and knows on other things I need to get my stuff first.
