ARCHIVED Question For Those Of You With Excessive Hunger As A Symptom
anerissara replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Other symptoms...yup! I get tired, eczema-type rashes, bloating, anxiety (usually happens at night...I wake up feeling panicked with my heart racing), and get grouchy. This might be due to all of the symptoms I just listed, though ;o) I also get D really bad. My son gets grumpy and hyper and overly emotional, and also will get heartburn. Hope this... -
ARCHIVED Question For Those Of You With Excessive Hunger As A Symptom
anerissara replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, I get crazy food cravings and want to eat everything in sight when I get glutened. I'm actually going through that now, and it's not fun! It has gone away, a few months after going gluten-free it was much better. It comes back if I get glutened. -
My dad lives in Idaho in a house surrounded by wheat fields...when I'm visiting during harvest time I usually feel sick. My poor dad has terrible allergies, in fact he's had an awful cough that won't go away and nobody can figure out where it's coming from. This has been going on for 3 *years*....he did have a test done for the celiac gene and didn't have...

ARCHIVED Gutened! Anyone Else Get Cravings And Retain H2o?
anerissara replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got the gluten cravings, too...much worse in the months just after I went gluten-free, but I still get them now. Usually the thought of something wheat just turns my stomach but if I've been glutened it can start sounding good. One of the funny (or not so funny) things about my experience was that before I went gluten-free I craved bread and wheat... -
ARCHIVED Gutened! Anyone Else Get Cravings And Retain H2o?
anerissara replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that's why I was overweight, too. I had about 15 pounds that just *wouldn't* come no matter what I did...I could eat nothing at all, go jogging, whatever and I still couldn't lose it. I lost about 5 pounds the first week gluten-free just due to the fact that I quit retaining water! It's been almost 2 years, and I am very close to the weight I... -

I guess every now and then I need a little reminer as to the fact that this gluten thing is *not* all in my head! I know it is important and that I should be careful, but I hadn't had a bad reaction for awhile. I went to Outback Steakhouse...normally a very safe place to eat...and *forgot* to order my salad gluten-free! I can't believe I did that. I... -
I'm here, too.. In the SLC area.

ARCHIVED For Those With Gluten Tolerant & Intolerant Family Members
anerissara replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have a mixed lot around here...my son and I are gluten-free but everyone else isn't. I spent most of this year with 2 extra students home schooling at my house, and ended up making tons and tons of gluten PB&J's for them...I think this has really effected my health because I have been really up and down but I've been very careful about what I eat... -
ARCHIVED How Bad Is Wheat In Shampoo?
anerissara replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What kind do you use? I didn't know Pantene had changed their formula...nuts, now I'll have to find another shampoo. Rats. I get that rash on my scalp too, and come to think of it I've had it lately. time for a new shampoo! -

ARCHIVED What The Heck Is "haw"?!?
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, guys...sorry I've been absent for so long, I ended up homeschooling my kids PLUS 2 others after their school closed in December, so I have been completely busy! Does anyone know what on earth Haw is? We are studying Asia right now and the kids made sushi for lunch. We'd gone to an Asian market and brought home all sorts of neat stuff, most of which... -
after a year and 3 months gluten-free I've noticed that my stomach has finally gotten flatter. I guess it might also be because I've gone 3 1/2 years w/out being pregnate, which is a 10-year record for me LOL. However, i really think that now that I"m not bloating all the time my stomach has finally started to look better and it doesn't puff up as bad even...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Most Annoying Symptom?
anerissara replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd have to say the D and bloating are the worst, however brain fog drives me nuts, being tired all the time isn't fun, the itchy rash I get is miserable, and the low cramping is crummy. Come to think of it, the whole thing pretty much stinks! -
ARCHIVED Do You Have To Get The Gene From Both Parents?
anerissara posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, all-- Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the celiac disease gene(s). I was not officially dx'ed but had improvement with the diet, now I've been gluten-free for about a year and I just can't face the idea of going back on gluten for long enough to get tested. My dad got the gene tests for celiac disease and they all came back negative... -
I had a pain in my upper right side (right below or behind the lowest rib) before I went gluten-free. My dr. said there is a sharp turn right there where gas can build up and he said sometimes intestines can blow up to the size of a soft ball (!) which could be causing the pain. In retrospect, that may have been part of it but I think it was a gluten reaction...

I was just wondering what month you were diagnosed in, or specifically how many people got really sick (perhaps leading to diagnosis or to trying the gluten-free diet) around the holidays? Last Christmas/Thanksgiving and the year before that were my sickest times, and this year (first one gluten-free) has been much much better. Just wondering if all those...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Used A Cookie Press?
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm looking for an easier way to make sugar cookies, the dough is soooo sticky and the cookies are either hard to roll out or you add more rice flour and then they end up too crumbly or too hard. I was thinking maybe a cookie press would work, you know...the kind where you put the dough in a tube and squeeze it out in little shapes? Has anyone tried this... -
ARCHIVED Quick Question Ladies
anerissara replied to SammieMtz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had been getting progressivly worse cramps and bad pms the couple of years when the celiac disease started getting bad, before I went gluten free. I had never had either, so it was a real adjustment! After I went gluten-free, both things have really been reduced. I have no idea *why*, but it sure seemed to help! SammieMtz, I live in Utah and got a... -

ARCHIVED Mainstream gluten-free Yogurt?
anerissara replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in the western US and we have Mountain High yoghurt in most stores...it's gluten-free and also flavored with fructose and very healthy! It tastes great. So far I've only seen it in the large carton, but a big carton of strawberry usually costs just under $2.00. -
ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
anerissara replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's interesting reading these posts...it sounds like most people are dx'ed later and it also sounds like many people can trace it getting worse after a tramautic illness or event. For me, it all started when I was 16. I left for boarding school, which was very traumatic for me...and also the diet at school contained more wheat in general (looking back... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Cream Of Mushroom Soup
anerissara replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll have to try the progresso! Also, the recipes. Every now and then I miss things like hashbrowns with cream of mushroom soup and melted cheese...yum! Cinda, I'm in SLC. I'd love to hear from someone who knows a good general practice MD, I've had a hard time finding a doctor who knows anything at all about celiac disease. -
Right Abdominal Pain
anerissara replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, sometimes it will get better if I go. Always if I have the pain *Plus* I have to go, if that makes sense. Also, it tends to be worse in the early morning or late evening.
