  1. I am thinking about doing the Enterolab test for celiac because I've been gluten-free for 4 months and don't want to go back on gluten again to do regular testing. I'm wondering a few things, first of all will it work with my having been gluten-free for this long? Second, has anyone that you know of had results from them that say they are *not* celiac...
  2. So I was a wheat junkie! LOL yup, that would explain how messed up my system seems to be now. It seems like I've been gluten-free forever, but I guess 4 months out isn't that long. I'm not complaining about the alchohol thing, it's kind of nice to be a "cheap drunk"
  3. Here are some of our favorites (my kids eat dairy, so if you can't have that some of these are out): Tuna or egg salad on a rice cake Tuna salad with corn chips as a dip PBandJ on rice cakes Peanut butter, 1/2 banana, and honey all mixed together served with apples for dipping gluten-free mac and cheese (rice noodles and velveeta, frozen in kid sized...
  4. I agree...I am much more sensitive to my body now than I was before going gluten-free. Also, I used to crave food all the time! I especially craved *bread*. Go figure! One thing in retrospect that is interesting is that I had the worst time during holidays...namely Christmas and Thanksgiving. Those happened to be the times when I baked--Stuffing, fresh...
  5. I was just looking on enterolab's site and found this: "Sometimes, however, people are so immune suppressed from damage to the intestine and malnutrition that a gluten free diet actually can make the antibody values go up for a time, a reflection of enhanced immune function and response." Is that why a lot of us seem to feel *worse* for awhile after...
  6. Wow, that sounds exactly like what's on my hands!!! Awhile ago a dr. told me it was dh, however he did not do a biopsy and was a general md rather than a dermatolagist so in retrospect I wonder how he came up with that. Besides the hand rash, I also get the red bumps (much bigger) on my legs, arms, and sometimes on my scalp (I've got a bunch along the...
  7. Thanks, that worked! It does look like the picture that carriefaith posted, and I have seen a lot of pictures that look like both examples. My rash is different, I get tiny clear blisters that are not very raised but are deep...they itch terribly and then later when they dry up the skin where they used to be cracks and hurts. Here is another picture...
  8. Oh, yea! Do they come in different flavors (I'm missing cheese flavored chips!). Thanks, Kaitie...you are always so helpful when it comes to finding gluten-free products!!!
  9. I can't view the pictures, to me it only looks like text. Is there something I need to do to see the pictures?
  10. I have managed to gluten myself with potatoe chips on more than one occation . The last time, I checked the label of Kettle Chips (I think it was some kind of cheese flavor) and it looked quite safe, and I ate a lot of them. I felt really sick several days later and couldn't figure out why. The next time I looked at the lable on the chips they had very...
  11. I get pains on the right side (sometimes left, but mostly right) and lower back pain as well. They are worse when I've been glutened, one of the nice things about going gluten-free was that my back pain went away for the most part!
  12. Sex: female Age: 31 Date started gluten free diet: January 20 2005 Suffer from the following on a regular basis since starting treatment: Constipation no Diarrhoea most of the time...finally getting a little better but bad when glutened Abdominal pain when glutened Indigestion no Acid reflux rairly Other related problems-- most of these are...
  13. Oh, nuts! I just bought 2 packages and have been eating them like crazy for the last 2 days. Shoot!
  14. I'll have to check out that illium thing...that sounds remarkably like the pain I used to get all the time. It's pretty much gone (I've been gluten-free for about 5 months) but now I have a new pain in the *lower* right side of my tummy! Argh, it never ends. But, the illium explanation sounds like what was going on earlier...thought it was maybe gallbladder...
  15. Hi, I am in real need of a good multivitamin and have been putting off getting some because I am worried about getting glutened. Any suggestions? I was reading about b-12 deficiency and realize that I really need to get back on a suppliment. Thanks!
  16. Ok I know this sounds like a completely insane question (and no, I'm not planning to *eat* any bangages), but could the glue on band-aids be made with gluten? I have dh and right now I've got a bad outbreak on my fingers. My pinkey and thumb have had it so bad that it almost looks like they've been burned...anyway, I was keeping them covered with band aids...
  17. This is really interesting to me...my dad lives in Moscow and yes, it's beautiful...and so full of wheat dust that you *can* see it at times! He is having awful allergic-type reactions to something, has had a bad cough for 2 years now plus sinus problems and awful reflux. I suggested to him that he might want to check out celiac's since it's genetic, but...
  18. Oh, this is so funny! I love it. OK, I think I'd better find out what disodium phosphate and tartaric acid are. I assume they are *Not* gluten-free? In which case I think I've found a source of contamination because I'm sure I saw disodium phosphate on something I ate this week. What are they?
  19. mgglutenfree...I had the same reaction, just felt wonderful about 2 or 3 weeks into it and felt better than I'd felt in years, but now I'm almost 3 months into things and I don't feel nearly as good. It seems like I just start feeling better and get hit with hidden gluten, a virus, or some other problem that sets me back for a week. Sigh.
  20. I'm in the same boat...I've been gluten-free since mid January, and before then I was having D 3 to 5 x per day, always watery...now I'm having it 1 x per day (back to 3 x if I've been glutened...which has happened at least 3 times that I know of...oops!). However, I have had 4 bm's that I'd consider "normal"...that is, not D at least, which is 4 more than...
  21. We do a lot of yoghurt, I buy an all natural type and put it in tupperware with a layer of frozen blueberries on the bottem. They also like plain chicken breast cubes with cheese cubes and a little packet of ketchup, or crab (has to be real crab) salad with rice crackers, or peanut butter with banana slices and honey on gluten-free bread, Kraft snack pack...
  22. I had these problems *before* going gluten-free, but they cleared up after I quit eating wheat. I think there must have been a connection, because I was having heavy periods and really bad pms before, these were symptoms that showed up about the same time other problems (rashes and bad gi symptoms, etc.) started causing trouble. I'd never had PMS before...
  23. LOL about the "Imbecile Adults". I know what you mean! My favorite is the adult who tries to tell you "Oh, but you can eat (fill in the blank with a gluten-containing substitute for whatever gluten-containing snack the kid is having to turn down at the moment) because it's not wheat" or "Surely whatever small amount of wheat that could be in that food starch...
  24. Oh, man! That must really be tough. Can you have Mocha Mix ice cream? I used to be lacotse intolerent (can have it now as long as I'm gluten-free) but I don't remember if it had casin in it. Ugh, my heart goes out to you. gluten-free is hard enough, I'm sure it must be really difficult to come up with gluten-free, casin free meals. Still (and especially...
  25. We're in the same boat...I took my kids off gluten because both have symptoms of celiac's although they are not dx'd officially. I do not want them to have to go through tests and spend all that time trying to pinpoint what I am almost certain is related to the wheat, and it certainly can't hurt them to be gluten-free. Plus, having wheat around my house...
