ARCHIVED Reading Books Or Watching Movies
FaithInScienceToo replied to SharonF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No... I am SO happy to be able to be healthy with a gluten-free diet, that any other food doesn't seem like food to me... I truly do not think of foods with gluten in them.... they do not 'register' in my brain as food for me. Maybe I am lucky? Or easily self-hypnotized ;-) Gina PS - when I see my family eating foods with gluten in them, all... -
ARCHIVED Interested In Knowing How Long...
FaithInScienceToo replied to AmandaD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Back in late December '04..... 3 years or so prior, I was told to go 'gluten-free' by an Nutrition-oriented Internal Medicine MD, after he learned that I had been priviously diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, he never mentioned Celiac Disease, never did a blood test for it, and did bizarre 'freaky' tests...like ones where I had to hold glass... -
Just adding my "Congrats!" to all of the expectant "Mommies" here Love and Best Wishes! Gina

Hiya Debbie Thanks for the sweet comment - not sure if anyone ever told me I was 'awesome' before ;-) (minor laughter here)...but, come to think of it, my cat thinks so!...at least I like to think he thinks so! >^..^< "Yep, she's awesome!" says Br. Bo Jangles, AKA "BoBo," the hobo Welcome, and glad to have helped out in some way!...

Just curious - Have you been FULLY tested for all food sensitivies? I ask because I went through the YORK blood tests (for ALL 114 foods/combos), and it came back clear, other than for gluten and casein...which is what Enterolab already told me...I was glad, of course, to learn that I didn't need 'an even more major overhaul' of my diet... I have... -

Hi, again, Mark! Did you fall asleep on your return key? Where did all of that 'empty space' above come from? Gina PS - Looking forward to hearing about how your tests turn out PPS - Are you following a gluten-free diet right now...and being VERY careful to eat only 'pure' food? If so, for how long now? and...Do you feel any differeent...

ARCHIVED Scared To Tears
FaithInScienceToo replied to bellybattle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Stepahanie - you'll be fine....your hubby would just distract the doc, so I wouldn't ask about having him be present....that's my thoughts about it... Of course, he can still tell the doc, "Take great care with my angel!" Gina -

ARCHIVED Organic Gluten-free Food Bar
FaithInScienceToo replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't contacted Stanford yet...not sure if I will now....Except, I would like to ask for their entire list of what is safe and what is not...so, I may try to make a trip there, or maybe even a doc appt... (I have PPO ins) about this stuff, though... I went to the Celiac Sprue Association web site - they had this to say: "WHEAT grass: Leaves... -
ARCHIVED Organic Gluten-free Food Bar
FaithInScienceToo replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the add'l info! If ANY grain could possibly get into the 'grass' they use, then it would be best to not risk it! I'll post here when I find out what the Stanford people say...but it seems now that they will say what you have! :-( Gina -
ARCHIVED Organic Gluten-free Food Bar
FaithInScienceToo replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I meant to add.... The Trader Joe's people may not know 'what's what' about this stuff, too...perhaps they are also 'being better safe than sorry?' ... ANWAY... It would be wonderful news, though, if we can buy all of the bars without worry, and to even find out if we can take supplements with these healthy ingredients in them, so I will definitely... -

I will continue to research this, Stephanie...I live in the Bay area...I see you are in Cal, too...perhaps the researchers at the Stanford Celiac clinic can help clear this up? I am not sure if 'the seed' has gluten, though...that is not the same as 'the berry'...or the actual grain. Anyway, I'll try to e-mail someone over there...I imagine they know... -

FaithInScienceToo replied to bellybattle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi :-) The test itself is a breeze :-) What was hard on me was 'the prep stage'... Don't worry, though, even that is just a matter of grim and bear it... The test is actually an opportunity to get more rest! Go home afterward, have something light to eat and take a cozy nap while the sedatives make their way out of your system! ;-) Love,... -
ARCHIVED Organic Gluten-free Food Bar
FaithInScienceToo replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Seems like we're A-OK with ALL of their products... I found this info by Googling, for Barley grass, gluten: at: Open Original Shared Link I found: "Most wheat allergies are due to the gluten found in the wheatberry, but wheatgrass is cut before the plant forms a grain (berry) and therefore has no gluten." and, about 'barley grass,' I found... -

FaithInScienceToo replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, Stephanie - I am not sure about there being gluten in the bars with 'greens' listed... I tried to check this out....this is what they wrote about what they use: "Wheat Grass & Barley Grass Juice Powder – These tender grasses are grown under chemical free conditions high in the mountains where the top soil in some areas is up to 96 feet t... -

Just sharing - these are great! Great as a snack, and great as a treat for kids/teens, and REALLY great in an emergency kit, or to take on the road, on a hike, or on a bike ;-) I buy them, by the box, at Trader Joe's, but they have this on their site: To place an order or for further information about the nearest point of purchase where you can... -

I am copying and pasting my previous reply to you here. Again, good luck to you - Gina PS - If you have already been formally diagnosed as "Celiac" yourself, you must already have heard most of this info, I imagine...I took a quick look at your blog...seems you must have all the info you need about Celiac disease...not sure what anyone here can add about... -
Hi, again, Mark I see you hit the reply button that quotes everything from the person you want to reply to... Next time, you can just hit the 'add reply' option at the bottom of the page, and mention the name of the poster you want to direct your reply to. If you DO want to quote something from another post though, you WOULD then want to use...

I have not checked your blog, but I think you should make a new post for the questions about your aunt...to be sure that you get enough replies, since this thread is about something else. Anyway...all I know is: To 'prove' Celiac, you need AT LEAST a "Celiac blood panel"...a simple blood test. It is usually required to have an endoscopy done if the... -

FaithInScienceToo replied to Connielynn38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Connie - I understand about being told to not use certain things pre-surgery. The reason I have been able to be on here a lot lately is that I am still recovering from a recent surgery - had to have my nose re-built ;>), due to a bad fall as a kid...it is my third time having the tip rebuilt - I think they got it right this time :-) Anyway, I... -
ARCHIVED Phase 1 Trial Celiac Treatment
FaithInScienceToo replied to Claire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the link - this part of what was written about the med makes me think it is the one that stops the 'leaky gut' thing: "zonulin appears to be involved in many disease states in which leakage occurs via paracellular transport across epithelial and endothelial tight junctions (tj), and thus may play an important potential role in the treatment...
