  1. Nancy- Here are some books, not short per se, but good. Perhaps your hubby can read a chapter or two... All of these can be ordered, or are on amazon .com One of the best is: Wheat-Free, Worry-Free: The Art of Happy, Healthy Gluten-Free Living by Danna Korn . Another: Gluten-Free for a Healthy Life: Nutritional Advice and Recipes for Those Suffering...
  2. GFPrincess-- I echo your cocoa issue. I really can't eat cocoa--reg. chocolate, any form of caffeine and corn are the things that kill my digestive system--not really Celiac issues... I'm atypical in that way. A bowl of pasta won't really bother me, but about 4 corn chips and I get some serious pain. Crazy how our systems can be... Any other atypical...
  3. I dig rewards, I have many things I would consider such... However, the latest one is putting on my pjs, laying on the couch (having it all to myself--no husband , watching Alias, and eating one or a combination of many things--sherbert, vanilla/caramel sundae, wild oats mini gluten-free choc chip cookies, midel arrowroot cookies, reeces pieces....
  4. Great thoughts I would echo--we're all definitely passionate about this : ) I get tired of the assumption that I am simply "high-maintenance." Like I get a thrill about of being difficult ! I had a waiter say those exact words to me once ! However, it helps to remind myself that others' reactions are not a reflection on myself or any issue I have, but...
  5. Dessa- I love your "cat-fur lapblankets"... that's sweet
  6. Mel- I like white chocolate too. Dark or milk chocolate really bothers my system. I eat Hershey's white chocolate (but not dairy free of course). I eat the new white chocolate reeces cups from time to time. Here is one gluten-free/dairy free white chips (never had them myself): Open Original Shared Link CK out this site too-gluten-free/dairy...
  7. Sabrina- I buy Erewhon's Cream of Brown Rice cereal. Really good. I used to eat Cream of Wheat all the time--to "calm" down my stomach no less I like to add brown sugar, nuts, fruit to the rice. Very good.... Go here for pic/description: Open Original Shared Link
  8. I haven't changed my original pots and pans. I figured putting them through the wash a few times would clean them well... Perhaps I am still eating something with gluten. It is hard at first! I will ck through things again. I am having a gallbladder ultrasound to make sure I don't have an issue there, but if that cks out okay, the pain I've been having...
  9. Thanks guys... have my ultrasound this morning, so we'll see... Have a good day!
  10. Hillshire Farms deli select is gluten-free--the thin sliced--very good !
  11. Paula-- That stinks on the dairy in Nut Thins ! Well, they weren't "that good", not anything special. In fact, somtimes they even tasted nasty I just got tested yesterday for other food intolerances, so I may be in your boat soon !
  12. Paula-- From one cat-lover to another, definitely gluten-free and delicious. My husband and I raise the cats on a specific organic/gluten-free diet, so there are no worries of contamination
  13. Ahhh... Elephant ears rock! Crispy, yet chewy, covered with so much sugar you have to wipe your face and hands after every bite. I ate a whole one of those last summer, by myself...
  14. If you decide to try the Nut-Thins....They are definitely yummy. I think I like the Walnut or Hazelnut the best. Funny, as I am typing this, there is an ad for them on the screen. Subliminal.... Thanks for the input all. I'm going to stick with the Nut Thins and give Quaker the hex. They care not for us Celiacs ! Funny though, I've gotten pissed...
  15. Question-- What do you think when you see the little "warning" on food packages that says "Produced in a facility that also makes products containing wheat etc." ie: Right now I'm eating those Nut-Thins crackers (yum) that say gluten-free, but has that warning on the box. Do you heed the warning and NEVER eat anything that has the label on the box? OR...
  16. Mel-- I am sorry to hear the mess you are in the midst of. When it rains, it pours huh? I had a terrible bout of health in high school. Had 2 ovarian cysts rupture, several endoscopies, dialations etc. etc., all coupled with cystitis that seemed to come from nowhere. Went to like 4 urologists, had a urethral dialation (ugh!) and went on months of antibiotics...
  17. Glad to read these posts... I started the gluten-free diet about 2 mos ago. Still have a ways to go before feeling better (haven't noticed feeling better at all yet)... However, about 8 days ago I started getting these horrible stomach aches that last for 1/2-1 1/2 hr, with some naseau. I am going to go in for an ultrasound to check for gallstones, but...
  18. Stephanie & Christine- Thanks for the info! We'll see what the docs has to say today....
  19. Anyone have any gallbladder problems or gall stones? I have been having horrible stomach pains (unlike any I've had before) for about the past 7 days after I eat. Symptoms are in line with gallstones and I'm going to the doc tommorrow. Anyone have any in the past??
  20. Hey! Shout out to the few from Indiana. I am in Indianapolis--the Ripple, for anyone who knows what that means
  21. Thanks for the info!
  22. Hey all-- Know where you can get additional food allergy/intolerance testing? I feel like there are some other intolerances I have besides the obvious Celiac ones. I thought I heard of a place where you could do testing via mail... Anyone know? Gracias!
  23. Dang--I am a bit of a makeup whore ! I have a trunk full of a myriad of different brands... I understand lipstick needing to be gluten-free. What about other makeup--eye shadow, mascara etc? And is it as important for those who do not have derm. hep to make sure their makeup is gluten-free? just when you think you've got it all figured out...
  24. Hey all-- I wanted to order some gluten-free pantry mixes and wanted to see what some of your favorites were...including desserts. I've ordered from other companies, but not the pantry yet. Thanks for the input
  25. Julie- hey...don't get too discouraged, although i know it is so easy to do so... do you have health insurance to help pay for the tests? they aren't much if you do. no one has come up with any solutions for you yet, and i would definitely encourage you to get tested, and to go to a new doc! if he isn't taking you seriously, you deserve better. your...
