  1. Why would they claim to have a gluten-free menu and then say that? It would really be be better just to ditch their "gluten-free" menu, it seems. As opposed to half-assing it. "Please enjoy or shellfish-free menu!*" *Our staff do not have any idea what "shellfish" are, where they would be, or what could contain them, so our apologies if you blow up...
  2. The honey and chocolate ones are great as snacks, the chocolate dangerously so.

    ARCHIVED Pei Wei

I recently tried Pei Wei, an asian diner that is a spin off of P.F. Chang's. It's a national chain and is more a quick style restaurant where you place your order at the counter, get a number, and go find a table where your food is brought to you. I tried them because their website boasts a separate gluten free menu. I wound up actually placing my order...
  4. My local chain grocers had a small Gluten-free section, and until recently I thought that was where they had all their gluten-free products (which included noodles, mixes, crackers and other things.) I was shocked when I saw they had suddenly started stocking Udi's bread and others in the freezer section. I would have never looked outside of the store's...

    ARCHIVED Jason's Deli

Yes, it's on the south side of that mall area, closer to Walmart.

    ARCHIVED Jason's Deli

I went to Jason's Deli yesterday, after hearing they have a large gluten-free menu. I ordered a corned beef sandwich. I was impressed that the guy who made it pulled out a separate board and cutting knife after he changed gloves. He pulled the bread from the back (Udi's wheat I think) and put the sandwich together at a dedicated station with toppings...
  7. I'm a man in his early thirties, and I put up with my undiagnosed condition until my wife forced me to see a specialist after being sick on and off for over a month. I think men will generally go to the doctor if they get injured or are seriously ill, but since some symptoms can be "put up with" they don't bother, especially if they have been wrongly diagnosed...
  8. Be careful with barbeque sauces from restaurants. A local rib place near me uses soy sauce (often made with wheat) in their sauce. So no more ribs from there. If you use a chili recipe that calls for chili beans from a can, be sure to check. Brooks uses wheat, Hormel (last I looked) does not. Like usual, check everything, ask about everything.
  9. I can sympathize. It figures I get diagnosed the same month Guiness Black Lager comes out. I used to love the dark beers and IPAs. The first company to come up with a real comparable gluten-free beer will make a bazillion dollars. I don't think anybody believes that RedBridge is it, but at least it shows the bigger companies are thinking about it.
  10. Anyone have any good recommendations for a good take out place for gluten-free pizza in the Schaumburg/Arlington Heights/Buffalo Grove area? There's a million pizza places around, so there has to be one.
  11. I'm going there for Valentine's. I've been told they keep gluten-free fondue pots seperately and I'm going to be sure to call ahead and remind them at the restaurant. It's nice to know they are set up for it though.
  12. I switched to ciders from beer after being diagnosed. I drink Hornsby's and Woodchuck primarily and have never had a problem with either.
  13. My wife and I both use them. They really help if you're a bad snorer. They also probably help us sleep better, but it's usually more about eliminating noise than improving airflow.
  14. For those who miss the Chili-Cheese flavored Fritos (not-safe), give the "FRITOS
  15. Be careful eating chips at Mexican restaurants. A lot of places make their own in the deep fryers, which may also be contaminated from deep frying other things like chimichangas, etc. I had some nachos at a locale place that did me in.
  16. I had some problems this morning and Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold was the only thing I can think of to cause it. The company lists it as not definitely gluten free do to factory product lines, etc. Anyone else had problems with it?
