  1. You must be suspecting Celiac for both of you. Talk to the Dr. about testing, or go gluten free and see if it helps. All of the symptoms appear to be consistent with Celiac from what I have read and experienced. You are right to be concerned.
  2. Well there is gluten free beer! Redbridge. Haven't tried it yet but hear it is a good substitute.
  3. They are safer than real kisses!
  4. Of course it is OK to post things like that. I found it interesting as I have not been tested but was considering Enterolab. Just wanted to let you know you could ask for a biopsy of the clear skin next to the lesion. If it is DH that is where the antibodies lie. They won't find any if they biopsy the lesion itself. I'm glad you found this early. And I hope...
  5. Years ago, my lesions were just one tiny bump. Not really painful. Took forever to heal. Sort of mosquito bite looking. Never really bothered me. Dr.'s didn't know what it was. It took years and years of this for the outbreaks to become an actual large rash with painful oozing sores that would not heal for months to years. Burning, itching hurting and no...
  6. I'm sorry that you had that experience. It truly sucks and it is very disheartening. However, I am happy that you have this resource to be able to follow your instinct and try to get rid of your DH by following this forum and being gluten free. I was diagnosed with a herpes, neurotic excoriation, adult acne, and I practically begged for a biopsy. I saw...
  7. One thought for relief. I use Walgreens brand of Pain Relieving Oinment which is benzocaine. It helps a little for itching and pain.
  8. Are you sure you aren't getting gluten? That is exactly what happens to me when I get cross contamination. I still get migraines sometimes and was on a lot of Ibuprofen before going gluten free. There is another possibility. Salicylic acid can cause the symptoms you describe. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Pepto Bismol, face washes with salicylic acid in...
  9. I'm sooo happy for you! Isn't it wonderful? I bet there will be more wonderful surprises around the corner too. Here is mine. I have fingernails for the first time in my life! It isn't as big as losing diabetes drugs...but it is a little celebration by my body!
  10. oops- I want to clarify my previous post when I said either one will cause a reaction for years. I meant the antibodies stay in your skin for years, not that a reaction will last for years. Hope I didn't confuse you. Most people seem to clear up in a matter of months from all the reading I have done here.
  11. You are very welcome. They surprised me too. I'm just getting the last of my sores healed. And fearing the next Pandora's box I will discover. This will be my first time in 7 years without sores if they actually really do heal. I love shrimp and crab and those are awful. Just awful on the sores. My pharmacist recommended a vitamin that was just...
  12. Sorry sweetie. CC is cross-contamination and it means trace amounts of gluten. You are not actually eating gluten but getting it by contact with gluten foods or crumbs. Even crumbs will make you sick. We who have DH are very sensitive to gluten. Common causes of CC are: Using scratched teflon pans for cooking. Toaster with crumbs. Lipstick has gluten...
  13. I don't know about the running sweat connection. I haven't been able to walk let alone run. What I DO know is any tiny bit of iodine causes me to breakout with new sores and I am 4 months into this. Shellfish, asparagus, iodine in any form, meds, vitamins, etc. Will aggravate the antibodies and the lesions. DH is very sensitive to CC and takes years to...
  14. I was on Atkins for 5 years. The only healthy 5 years in my life. What got me is that I didn't know about gluten. I went along happily thinking this is it! I will just eat this way for the rest of my life. Then started reacting, as we all do, to the smaller amounts of gluten and to cross contamination and of course, lipstick. I developed DH but it was treated...
  15. I keep fried hanburger patties in the fridge. I have a teenager and he warms them in the microwave with cheese and throws it on Udi's bread. Done. I chop up one of those burgers and put a slice of cheese, a spoonful of black beans and salsa from the jar. Microwave it, call it nachos, and eat it with chips. We never get tired of this every time I do...
  16. Yes, your tongue can develop sores. I finally realized I had DH after the skin on my tongue sloughed off. Sounds awful but it wasn't painful. I also got sores on the corners of my mouth whereas before they were always on my face and dermatologists treated it as adult acne. Which I knew it wasn't. The last major outbreak gave me sores in all the classic...
  17. Yes gluten has to be in your body. And not only a little. You have to eat it at the rate of 5 to 6 slices a day for 6 to 8 weeks and you still may not test positive. Some people opt not to test as the reactions to consuming gluten are too awful to tolerate for that long. You have already tested it by elimination. I guess it depends how bad you want...
  18. I agree completely with the previous poster. However; Please use your Dr. to your benefit and don't let them give you the runaround by taking control of your care and ask specifically for what you want. Like vitamin levels to determine malabsorption and a bone scan to check your bones. Also thyroid levels can be helpful as many Celiacs have thyroid...
  19. My God Man!!! How did you live without Chocolate for that long? The first thing I did is go to the candy aisle and scope out the chocolate! But Nestels chocolate chips do in a pinch...so you are alright. Reeses Peanut Butter cups are supposed to be safe. BUT I have read that some packages contain wheat ingredients, especially the Holiday versions...
  20. It very well could be. The teeny blister part and the pain are consistent with DH. The location is consistent as well. I too thought I was allergic to many ingredients in soaps and shampoos, but it was gluten. If it really is the case, the sores should stop hurting soon after going gluten free. A bit longer to heal. Iodine is an activator of DH. Welcome...
  21. Revenant: You express yourself so well regarding the internal experience of gluten/Celiac and the sensations it caused you. I had those feelings too. I would go to therapy and say "I think I've lost my soul." I can't feel anything. I would describe a deep sense of loss. And hold my stomach. They invariably commented on my solar plexus or something...
  22. My sores never seemed to itch. I have read they are intensely itchy for others but mine are more like seecond degree burns. The burning sensation is intense and maddening. So I don't think all DH has to itch.
  23. That is what I am finding out. I am very strict about gluten, so I don't think it's gluten. Only vegetables and meat each meal, without spices and no restaurants. No grains. I had a huge reaction to the shellfish. If the antibodies stay for years, then that means shellfish is out. (and asparagus-thank you I didn't know that) I should have my thyroid...
  24. Oh my gosh. I just read that article. It says do not use sea salt, use uniodized table salt. So thank you again.
  25. Thank you very much. I have been confused about fish. I guess I won't try shellfish, I will try other fish next challenge. I was scared to use salt at all, but did buy some sea salt, albeit while I was at the fish store buying my shelfish! I so want the sores to be gone. Thank you for your help and for the link. How long do your...
