ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Shocked
eatmeat4good replied to jesimae's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I recently finished reading Peter Green's book entitled Celiac Disease, A Hidden Epidemic. In it he refers to inflammation in the body caused by Celiac disease showing up as positive ANA tests or other tests of inflammation in the body. It effects all systems in the body and therefore can elevate those numbers either significantly or slightly. I have found... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Shocked
eatmeat4good replied to jesimae's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So glad you finally found out what was wrong. Celiac can cause inflammation in all of the body, and it is not uncommon for ANA to be elevated. It can have gastrointestinal, neurological and dermatological symptoms due to the antibodies that build up in one's system when they have Celiac. You may find that your neurological symptoms are related to... -
Hey Running Girl! I was wondering how you were doing! I hope you will post when your biopsy results come back. I am so pleased to hear that the gluten and iodine avoidance is working for you. Mine went on so long that I think I must have extra antibodies built up. But this week I only have two small sores. If they weren't on my face I might...

ARCHIVED Is Celiac My Magic Bullet?
eatmeat4good replied to AerinA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been overweight too and that is also a symptom of Celiac, not just the weight loss. It has to do with swelling and inflammation. Your thyroid medication not being absorbed is another indicator. I just read the book by Peter Green, Celiac A Hidden Epidemic. In this book he discusses exactly what happened to you in the case of your Thyroid med not being... -
No I was never able to get a biopsy. I saw two Chiefs of Dermatology at two Medical Universities in two different states trying to get a biopsy. Although I was very determined to get a biopsy, both refused to do a biopsy. One said it was adult acne and the other said it was neurotic excoriation. I had several Dr.'s suggest I get a biopsy but I couldn...

ARCHIVED Depression And Celiac - Connection?
eatmeat4good replied to anna34's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Severe and profound depression and anxiety are in my opinion consistent with neurological symptoms of Celiac. I was on massive doses of antidepressants with no appreciable effect at all on the depression. There are articles on schizophrenia being caused by Celiac disease being undiagnosed. Zoloft, Xanax, and SSRI companies would go out of business if... -

ARCHIVED Opening A Gluten Free Cafe
eatmeat4good replied to strawberrygm's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It's a wonderful idea. I think that sort of thing will be replacing Starbucks in the next Century. If I were a bit more recovered I might have such ambitions. I think you should go for it. You would need to write a business plan and you could look into small business loans for women and minorities. I don't have experience, I just know women... -

ARCHIVED Are Hershey's Miniatures Gluten Free?
eatmeat4good replied to SaraKat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did a lot of reading about chocolate when I went gluten free. Although the mini's are made the same as the large size bars and may not have gluten ingredients, the problem is that they use run off chocolate for coating the candy and that may be how it is getting cross contaminated with gluten. Many people wrote about having reactions to the mini sized... -
ARCHIVED Reducing Gluten Vs. Gluten-Free? (New Member)
eatmeat4good replied to anna34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten has to be avoided completely if one is Celiac or gluten intolerant. Even the dust of flour on a counter can make you ill if you are Celiac or gluten intolerant. Cross contamination is a big issue that must be avoided. Accidentally ingesting gluten can make us very very ill. You will find that you or your child may become hypersensitive to even... -

ARCHIVED Still Learning To Eat Gluten Free. Sleeping 10 -12 Hours. Related?
eatmeat4good replied to farnickle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I used to sleep like I was dead. I couldn't hear the alarm, the phone, my son, nothing. It was very scary. I had no idea what had happened to me. Once I slept for 20 hrs and didn't know what day it was. Woke delirious and confused. It went away in the second month gluten free. The first month I still needed like 10 hrs a night. Now I sleep normally... -
I wasn't told about the NSAID connection. That means I must have made it way worse for several years because I took NSAIDs for the pain of the sores I couldn't heal. And I took it every day. Oh wow. I will stay off the NSAIDs. I do not like hearing about weight gain or muscle weakness but thank you so much for the warning. This is my second week...

ARCHIVED Agony After Bowel Movement
eatmeat4good replied to MAXX's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Maxx, Sorry you are in such pain. Potato is in the nightshade family. You may be intolerant of nightshades. This includes all peppers, tomato, potato, tobacco, and eggplant. Just thinking they may be contributing to your pain. Sorry your Doc wasn't helpful. Keep trying though. Soy is another intolerance that sounds like it may be... -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Gluten Free
eatmeat4good replied to patylu's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congratulations! It is Wonderful you are feeling better already. The thought of gluten makes me ill now whereas I used to be jealous others could eat it. Welcome to recovery! -
That is exactly what my DH looked like. Before it got really bad and became open weepy sores that never healed. My vote is DH. As for the cupcake question. I would hesitate to believe he actually ate one since DH gluten reactions can be very sensitive to gluten, it may not have been necessary that he ingested an entire cupcake. But he likely got...

ARCHIVED Secondary Food Intolerance Caused By Gluten
eatmeat4good replied to krishna's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I found out I cannot tolerate soy about 4 weeks after going gluten free. Dairy also. I don't know how long before they resolve, but for now I have to avoid them. Nightshades, dairy, soy, are a few of the common secondary intolerances. If you look at the signature lines you will see a lot of intolerances listed by the Celiacs here. Good luck. -
It's for cows!!! I have a younger sister who has been mentally "off" and had gluten ataxia all her life. She had been getting weaker and sicker the last few years. I was too ill to have contact with anyone and lost touch with even my family. However when I read about Celiac, I immediately thought of her. I called her after 3 years of no contact. I was...

ARCHIVED Stress And Food Intolerances?
eatmeat4good replied to India's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Spinach is high in salicylates. If you are intolerant of salicylates you will get anxiety symptoms and feelings of emotional distress. Many fruits and vegetables have salicylates some are very high. Spinach is one. I think you can google and get a list of salicylate content in foods. You might have to do an elimination diet and see if this is... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With Swollen Thyroid And Normal Tsh?
eatmeat4good replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh darn, maybe I do have to give up the chocolate. I will if it's messing with my thyroid. Yes, I use Dawn Shampoo! I love it...little goes a long way and it's cheaper than those expensive ones....umm It's my version of Suave! It's a great laundry stain remover too. Maybe I should write Dawn and tell them to advertise as gluten free shampoo!?... -
ARCHIVED What's So Important About Having The Celiac "diagnosis"?
eatmeat4good replied to Newsy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your story sounds a lot like the 7 years I lived through. When i found this site I cried and went gluten free. I have DH too, but mine is mostly on my face. But my story would have read like yours if I'd had the energy to write it. I just went gluten free. I did not have great healing of my rash for the first 4 months due to the iodine connection... -

And thanks everyone for the chocolate information... -
ARCHIVED Brand New - Been Reading Around, Still Have Questions
eatmeat4good replied to SaraMJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, I understand being reluctant because they dismiss everything I say. If you can't get a new Dr. then I say... Hey, nothing wrong with a little white lie. If you need courage and want them to take your request for testing seriously, you can say you have some family members who tested postiive for Celiac. After all, we are family now aren...
