NutsOnline.com I LOVE them. It is a goldmine of great stuff. Plus they have a selection of Certified Gluten Free flours and foods. They also have candies, spices, dried fruits, and bulk prices. I highly recommend them.
  2. That is amazing about your children! My son's acne also cleared up. And his asthma. And his bad moods. Oh my what gluten can do to a person! Are you sure your rash is yeast? Might want to have it checked. A lot of people have noticed DH appearing shortly after they go gluten free. Not sure if this is you or not. If it is yeast, it should clear...
  3. I had a rash on my leg that lasted over a year. It was attributed to "stress" by my Dr. It eventually went away. I never learned about gluten. About 5 years later I got DH sores on my chin that got worse and spread to my forehead. Not only can the sores appear and disappear...yes, even for years. They can appear in new places and/or old sores can...
  4. Try to get more protein. It helped me a lot. Dinty Moore Beef Stew is gluten free last I checked and it is a quick meal. Increasing protein by eating nuts also gives you the benefit of the good fats they contain. If you tolerate nuts that is. You can carry packs of nuts with you to snack on during the day. I buy in bulk then carry small ziplocks...
  5. It is not a silly question. No one in my family is diagnosed with Celiac either. There are people with symptoms, but no one has the diagnosis. When you consider that 1 in 133 people have Celiac and 90% of them are undiagnosed, it makes sense that a lot of us will not have family who are known to have Celiac. That doesn't mean they don't have it...
  6. You guys are a lot smarter than me! It's fascinating though!
  7. I cleaned my pots and pans-they are stainless steel. Are your pots and pans stainless or non-stick? I also kept my toaster oven and just cleaned it real good and the rack the bread sits on is washable so that should be OK. My house went gluten free so the toaster oven is not used for gluten anymore and it hasn't made anyone sick yet, that I know of. ...
  8. You are way smarter than your Dr. The blunted villi means you have Celiac. The gluten free diet harms no one. It is just food minus Wheat Barley and Rye. It is not more expensive for me because there is way less eating out. We found a few gluten free products to make like easier. Like Udi's bread. That tip right there saves you a bunch a money...
  9. Good for you sweetie! And the kids won't even mind after a while. I hope you feel better soon.
  10. I've had DH for 7 years. Mine was painful. I would not have describedit as itchy. In the beginning it didn't blister or hurt. I guess there were not enough antibodies built up. My son had sores on his legs that went away on going gluten free. The Dr.'s always called it eczema, but it is gone now that he is gluten free. So I wonder.... You...
  11. This is probably the most unhelpful advice, but it is the truth. I ate a Snickers every single day of my first month gluten free and I loved it. It was my reward for staying off gluten and eating all meat and veggies all day long. I eventually lost the craving for them too. Now 1/4 of a Snicker bar is entirely too sweet for me. But...
  12. That is a VERY good point Ravenwood!! I should have thought of that! I was too ill at one point to cook at all. I generally felt lousy all the time, and hoped I would do more cooking when I got well. It wasn't until I found out about Celiac that I started feeling well enough to cook and that was 7 years later. Maybe your mom isn't feeling well and maybe...
  13. Riceguy? How does one know if coconut oil has been centrifuged? Can you recommend the brand? I'm interested.
  14. I use grapeseed oil for cakes, cookies and frying. I like it the best. But I also use safflower oil, olive oil and coconut oil depending on what I am making.
  15. I like the idea of you making a list of what you need for the week. Plan what YOU want to eat for your health and then ask your mom if it sounds reasonable. Simple things I do that keeps food flowing is I cook hamburgers and keep them in the fridge for warming in the microwave for later eating. Nothing wrong with fruit and veggies and they are quick...
  16. You are going to be feeling better and better for months. It is just that good. Can't help you with the decision about testing. I wouldn't dream of it. For me feeling good is knowledge enough. As for your glutening's...they are minor setbacks. It doesn't undo everything even if it feels really bad until the episode is over. You are still...
  17. Finally! Thank you for posting these articles. My son had severe asthma as his primary symptom. The asthma just simply went away once he was gluten free. I want everyone to know. It would alleviate so much pain and agony for those with breathing problems related to gluten. I love this cite.
  18. I miss picking up fried chicken on Friday night on my way home from work. I miss being able to eat out without having to talk so much about my food in order for it to be safe. I miss springing for pizza for my son and his friends. He is gluten free now too. His list would be longer!
  19. Gluten anxiety is terrible. I have it too. Thankfully only when glutened. I take Xanax .25 mg. and hope it passes soon. Without it I would be frantic. I know it is addicting but I only use it for emergencies like getting glutened. If I don't have any, I take Melatonin. It has a calming effect. But not really enough to handle the gluten anxiety...
  20. Carbs may be hard on your system right now. Meat and vegetables are the only food you listed not high in carbs. Banana and rice are high. I try to eat more protein than anything. Vegetables next and just a little rice to help get it down. I know what you mean about not wanting to eat. I'm at five months too. Eating mostly nuts, meat and vegetables...
  21. You are very smart for figuring this out. And with NO help from the silly dermatologist. You can get DH anywhere. Mine is on my face. This prevented diagnosis for a long time since it is not "the typical place for DH" Only after a really bad episode where I broke out on the elbow, tailbone, corners of mouth and inside the mouth...did I figure...
  22. My DH flares from seafood. It is the iodine. Even dairy products with carageenan cause my DH to flare. Carageenan is made from seaweed so it contains iodine and it is in a lot of dairy products. It is a real puzzle to figure out, but these things make mine worse. Anything salty, like chips and nuts will also make it worse. You must use uniodized salt. ...
  23. Well, I'm sorta Paleo. I'd call it Paleo Plus. The Plus is chocolate chip cookies or snickers.
  24. Where did you get the test strips? That is fascinating. It was just a theory I had from getting sick in places that served breakfast. You validated it with your testing. Good thing you found out.
  25. I would say it took about a month not to have the bladder spasms at all anymore. I was noticing it less and less and then didn't have it at all. I thought that is the weirdest thing if this is related to gluten too! But guess what? It is totally related to gluten. For me anyway. Taking fish oil and vitamin C for their anti-inflammatory properties helped...
