ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Soy Allergy...
eatmeat4good replied to Free-CountryGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Soy oil bothers me and I avoid it like the plague, but I refuse to give up chocolate...so I say that I can tolerate lecithin! I don't know for sure, but that's my story for now. -
ARCHIVED Poll- How Tall Are You?
eatmeat4good replied to Cinnamongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm 5 feet tall. Been 5'1" all my life until last Dr. visit when they said I am now officially 5 feet o inches. What???? I guess those 7 years undiagnosed took a toll. This is interesting. -
ARCHIVED Celiac With Swollen Thyroid And Normal Tsh?
eatmeat4good replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you all very much. I'm trying not to be scared and you have helped me a lot. I appreciate all of you taking the time to write such nice long informative answers. To answer some of your questions... I'm as gluten free as I know how to be. I have learned I am very sensitive to slight CC so I have the whole house gluten free. It is... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With Swollen Thyroid And Normal Tsh?
eatmeat4good posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I have been gluten free now for 4 months due to severe DH and neurological Celiac symptoms which I learned about on this cite 4 months ago. No medical diagnosis, but seriously miraculous results on the gluten free diet. I got blood tests done last week because I noticed my thyroid is very swollen. Dr. said yes, your thyroid is swollen. I fully... -
ARCHIVED Day 6 With Questions
eatmeat4good replied to buzzkiss's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It could be either one. My first few weeks were up and down a few days of each. I tried eating in restaurants and ordering gluten free but inevitably I got ill right after. So finally no more restaurants. Then I started to heal. It has been 4 months and those ups and downs with unexplained D might be due to other food intolerances as well.... -
Thank you Richard. I've read your post before that your derm took one look at you and told you what it was. I used to have fantasies that it would happen to me. That they would say Aha! I know what you have! But it never happened. I've spent thousands on Dr.'s and derms who told me I did this to myself. neurotic excoriation. I have PTSD nightmares...
-
Wow! She said call me in two weeks and we will increase you 100 mg a day if 50 mg isn't working. Not a single mention of blood tests. But I plan to ask for them based on what others here have said. Thank you my Captain!

ARCHIVED Is This Dh Or Keratosis Pilaris?
eatmeat4good replied to George Knighton's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
From my reading the biopsy will show IgA antibodies in the skin next to a lesion. It is considered a positive diagnosis for Celiac if they find the antibodies there. The biopsy has to be next to a lesion on the clear skin. If it is postive then you would go on a gluten free diet for life and avoid iodine until the sores are healed which for some is a few... -
Oh my Captaincrab...I guess I will stop complaining about how long it took me and start feeling grateful for what I now know. That must have been terrible. Glad you are better now. Doctors and dermatologists are infuriating. Bea, I wasn't trying to dare you to take Dapsone, I was just saying "if you dare" due to the blood tests and side effects. As...
-
Hi Bea, You have been gluten free for a long time. But still having itchy rash. Maybe it is time for you to watch the iodine that keeps the antibodies activated? The more I learn about DH, the more imperative that seems. Like iodine can keep you reacting even without the gluten. Also, it becomes more active at night...hmm suspicious. Maybe...

ARCHIVED Any Ideas For "disguising" The Texture Of Meat?
eatmeat4good replied to Kelleybean's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If he like bean patties you could puree ground chicken or beef and mix in with the mixture before you make the bean patties. I used to make patties from ground chicken or ground turkey or both. If you put the raw meat in the food processor it becomes a much finer texture that can then be added to your bean patties. You could also try making patties... -
So sorry about that, I thought it was one of those cross contaminations we had to watch. I must have read the misinformation.
-
Yes! Yikes! There is usually gluten in gluey adhesive things. It is one of the surprising Cross Contaminations that can "get" us. I hope you don't get a reaction.
-
Bea, Thank you for all that information. It is very helpful to me. I also have a swollen thyroid and am suspecting Hashimoto's, but the Dr. isn't as my thyroid levels were "normal". I have to schedule an ultrasound as they think it might be nodules or cancer since the hormone levels appear to be normal.? But I think that can happen with Hashimoto's. I'm...

ARCHIVED Do You Need An Intact Blister?
eatmeat4good replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Only 4 months. Just started taking Dapsone. Seems to be working well. -
Dapsone Day 2 and I am completely relieved of all burning itching pain and the sores actually appear to be healing. I really really hope I can be one of those who can take this medicine without the anemmia and liver problems. But if not I am going to make the very best of these two weeks on it that is for sure. Just wanted to share with you...

I get the silicome sheets at CVS Pharmacy...CVS brand. The DMAE serum comes from a health food store. There are also DMAE oral supplements to take. I did that for a while. I will be interested to know if you think any of it helps.

ARCHIVED Is This Dh Or Keratosis Pilaris?
eatmeat4good replied to George Knighton's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I think it looks like DH but as you said, on every single follicle. My DH didn't look like any of the pictures I ever saw. I really think there is a range of ways the rash can look depending on the antibodies in your system. I have had active lesions for 7 years. Do the blisters break? Peel ooze hurt? You have an appointment with a Dermatologist... -
ARCHIVED Exercise And Losing Weight
eatmeat4good replied to Celiac Mommy 5704's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
And keep taking your prenatal vitamins. Even slight vitamin deficiency is not good especially recovering from pregnancy. Your exercising should be ok. Are you eating enough protein? Good fats? As far as feeling ill with gluten like symptoms. What about other food intolerances? Like nightshades, soy, eggs, lectins? I don't know that they would... -
ARCHIVED Cannot Lose Weight!
eatmeat4good replied to Kathleen Smith's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Excellent information on post starvation syndrome. I would second that you need to be sure to get enough protein. I notice if I don't I get swelling and inflammation. Must be that my body thinks there is a famine and stores everything as fat. I am having trouble with weight gain...after I lost like 35 pounds the first 4 months gluten free. Now... -
ARCHIVED Help With Grain Free Baking
eatmeat4good replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I only use Almond Flour and Coconut Flour. Love them both and will never go back to grain. I do have a slice of Udi's bread once in a great while. The Almond Flour Cookbook by Elana Amsterdam is wonderful. Made a chocolate cake from that and thought I was in heaven. She also has a website if you want to try her recipes. She uses both coconut... -
I have been using silicone scar sheets. They are worn all night. They help scars heal with consistent and prolonged use. I do notice a difference but it is a slow process. I also take collagen tablets. Hopefully to rebuild collagen in the skin. I take it several times a day. DMAE in a serum form applied to the face is also supposed to help healing....

You have neurological, dermatological, and gastrointestinal symptoms that are all very consistent with Celiac disease. In addition your gluten free trial went very well. You may not test positive for Celiac by blood tests or biopsy as there is a high rate of false negatives particularly for people who have the Dermatitis Herpetiformis. But you may be...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free 15 Days
eatmeat4good replied to glutenmik's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, the diet effects your whole lifestyle. I think you are both right. To the OP- The chin redness could also be antibodies that have built up in your skin. If you have had a rash there it could be DH. Dermatitis Herpetiformis. That isn't very fast to heal even if you are strictly gluten free and iodine free. It takes the antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Exhaustion And Celiac Disease
eatmeat4good replied to Flor's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dr. Peter Greene refers to adrenal problems in the section of Autoimmune Diseases common in Celiac patients. I'm very interested in the topic. What kind of Dr. did your saliva cortisol adrenal test??
