  1. Today I saw the GI doc. Of course, he suggested a biopsy to know for sure if I have Celiac. He said the blood test is 80-90% accurate....but he says it's good to get the endoscopy for accurate results. We talked about sedation options. I have always needed a lot more sedation/pain meds than the average person. I need medicine other than Novacaine at the dentist...
  2. Funny. I think people believe that only wheat bread has wheat in it...maybe she used white! LOL
  3. thanks everyone. My brain is on overload with everything, but I'm sure I will be ok. I feel a little better already. Just not sure if I need to totally eliminate dairy, too. I have cut way back on it, though. I swear, everything gives me gas...I know...TMI...lol, but it is getting better. I am thankful to know that I have this "disease". It's a mixed blessing...
  4. See my post about this, too. I am new too, since Friday I have been eating gluten-free. Read someone's response to my questions regarding this....it will help. It's better to eliminate gluten first, then go from there. I don't think it's necessary to walk around in our own plastic bubble with a contamination suit on or something! lol, seriuosly, don't worry...
  5. Ok, wooden spoons I can understand replacing. I don't use wooden spoons or cutting boards, so I think I'm ok as far as that goes. I have 2 collanders, I guess I could replace one, but I think the dishwasher will get anything off, then I can keep one for myself. Yeah, it's getting overwhelming.
  6. Ok, I posted a new topic just about CC. Do you REALLY have to buy separate pots and pans? Even if they are washed in the dishwasher and/or hot and soapy water? I want to see if I'm really going to be this sensitive. For now, I'm just cutting out all gluten. I think I'll feel better just by doing this, since apparently I've had undiagnosed Celiac for a long...
  7. I was diagnosed with Celiac last Friday. I started the diet then. I keep reading here about CC. I am wondering if I really should be as worried about it as people here are? I need to see if I do ok with cutting out all gluten first, then I will see if I am so sensitive to flour floating in the air at Thanksgiving. by the time I get to our dinner, everything...
  8. My family doesn't eat turkey with stuffing cooked in it, we smoke our turkeys separately, so I can eat ours. Also, I'm just starting the gluten-free diet as of last Friday and I'm not so sure I need to worry this much about CC. Why is it possible to have CC with potatoes? If they are boiled potatoes and cooked by themselves, they should be fine. I'm eating...
  9. You can't eat turkey and plain mashed potatoes? I'm new to this, but I think you could eat something! What about salad and bring your own dressing?
  10. ok, so I thought my levels were ok, but I was mistaken. I'm anemic and my Vit D level is only 15! (should be 30-100) My dr. prescribed some Vit D that I will get today and I bought iron yesterday and it ripped up my stomach...yuck! Does anybody have any recommendations for a form of iron that's better on your stomach? Also, I sent my dr. an email already...
  11. Sorry for being ignorant, but was does "cc" mean?
  12. Well, I'll go ahead and go to the GI doc, but will refuse the biopsy. I have no problem doing that. The nutritionist will probably be the best person to see! I'm just so glad my regular dr. found out what was going on!
  13. Sorry, I didn't realize he was in the NICU. I work in the NICU, so that paints a whole different picture. Breastfeeding is tough when you have a term baby who was never in the NICU! I understand what you're going through. It;s great that she's pumping and feeding the milk to him. That's great. I hope he does well!
  14. also, make sure she is feeding baby at least every 3-4 hrs, if not more often. Baby can sleep more at night. Just some general breastfeeding advice. If she hasn't seen a lactation consultant, that would help, but I feel like I am one since I am a nurse and I work with babies and moms. And watch for the yellow skin, means baby could be dehydrated. (jaundice...
  15. I might be able to help. I was diagnosed with Celiac on Friday. I think I've had it for many years. I've just been ignoring the symptoms, thinking I had a sensitive and nervous stomach. I've breastfed 3 kids and they are all fine and healthy. Is that what you are asking? All of my other blood tests for Vitamin deficiency, etc were normal. My children are...
  16. Ok, sorry, here's what I was asking about. Yep, you need to get a new Dr!!! I went to mine for the very first time, had to switch to her, and she ordered the test for Celiac right away...along with other tests, too of course, but she had no problem at all ordering them! And I go to a big HMO that sometimes gets a bad rap...well she is on the ball! you need...
  17. Why won't our dr. just order the blood tests for Celiac? My dr. did it as soon as I told her I had GI symptoms. Your Dr. should order them...or did he already do them? I'm confused.
  18. My regular doc told me to talk to the GI doc next week about the biopsy. I really don't think I will do it. I totally agree with what you said.
  19. You are totally right, but I still want some pasta and "junk food" now and then...I'll try to cut back more. thanks
  20. Thank you Karen G
  21. srall, I think you should mention this to the parents. This sounded like it made your daughter severely sick! Just be polite and explain it to them again, that she can't eat any of their food or you might have to take a trip to the hospital, maybe then they will hear you.
  22. Hi, I'm new here. I'm sorry to hear about this. I would hold those parents more accountable than her, personally. She is still very young, and some different foods will be tempting. I would call the parents and tell them everything that has happened, like you wrote here, if you haven't already. When it comes to a food issue, I think people tend to be really...
  23. I think people react differently when it's a disease regarding food. People are probably thinking you are going on a fad diet or something. So far, I've had good support. The best thing is that I am finding it is a healthier diet, really. I plan on cooking more at home now, which is always cheaper than eating out. So, try to look at the positive side of things...
  24. Wow, today I bought some gluten-free packaged things like pretzels, cornbread mix, cookie mix, bread, cheese...it is about twice as much as regular food. Do you guys buy online or wait for sales or what? I guess it's worth it to feel healthy again. I got a few pastas on sale, but geesh!
  25. Thank you sb2178. Today I found a lot of gluten free items at a specialty store near me. My biggest fear now is that it is EXPENSIVE!! Wow, couldn't believe the prices. But, if I want to feel better, that's what I have to do. I already had the vitamin and iron levels drawn. My dr. is getting back to me this week. By looking at how high my IgA level was, my...
