  1. I'm Reformed Baptist, so we don't believe in transubstantiation (it's more real spiritual presence and memorial view). We take Communion once a month. Last month was my first Communion since going gluten-free, and it caught me off guard! I help lead the music, and they brought the elements to me. I took the wine (okay, so it was juice...we're Baptists, ya...
  2. Hey! I made those the other day, without the chocolate chips! We made a bunch of goodies and went Christmas caroling to friends' houses. I am sure my friends all liked getting gluten-free Christmas treats. HA! But I wanted to be able to sample while I baked! As for Emeril, he obviously does not have children. He needs to come see my five...
  3. YES. It's hard to make yourself want to do it, but just pick something easy. I bought one of those silly plug-n-play Pac Man games and we took turns playing. (Don't call the truant officer! ) Also, we were living with my in-laws and my mother-in-law would drag me to the park, to the zoo, wherever. Just to get me out of the house. It didn't make me feel...
  4. Melissa, if you haven't had that tested, get it done as soon as you can! If those two are low, you can feel psycho, depressed, you name it. It's such an easy, cheap fix! But until your gut is healed, you'll need to do B12 by injection. I think you may be able to do sublingual, too.
  5. Girl, I hear you. I have three of them (8,5 and 3) AND we homeschool. The doctors kept telling me that I was having anxiety and hinting that it was because my kids were stressing me out. They didn't get it - taking care of my kids is my THING! I quit working because I wanted to be with them. But when you are sick, it is very, very hard. Of course, I might...
  6. PERFECT! I have just the thing...
  7. Oh, yeah! Now that's what I'm talkin' about. I am so glad you asked this, because I've been avoiding caramel color. Now someone give me a Coke, QUICK!
  8. Melissa, I haven't been gluten-free long enough to answer your initial question, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are depressed. Last year, when I was REALLY sick, I became extremely depressed. My B12 and D levels were in the basement, but I wasn't diagnosed with the deficiencies for months. We had to move in with my in-laws (thankfully they are...
  9. Karen - HA! TRUE! You've got me there. So let's go with...I'm so cheap. HAHAHA!!! That sounds like a great idea for the bread. I'll try it! However, I am pleased to announce that the bread was FANTASTIC. My husband and kids gobbled it down. I had to refrain from saying, "Hey! That's gluten-free, and it's MINE, all MINE!" Because if they want to eat gluten...
  10. Judy, you are doing GREAT if you've only ingested gluten once in two months! WAY TO GO! I bow before your nutritional awesomeness. (Or your incredible CDO tendencies...if it works, whatever!)
  11. Jestgar - that is funny! I guess I could always just lick the pan some and see if I get sick. SG - I've been trying that, but I think I am going to have to call EVERY COMPANY. It seems that lots of food websites will give gluten-free info, but not so much the hygiene products. Although this time I am suspecting the pan because it was about 45 minutes...
  12. So, I really think that my Teflon Frying Pan is trying to kill me. When I first decided to give this gluten-free thing a go the day before Thanksgiving , I did a little research so I would have success. And I did pretty well, besides eating out. But I've now gotten sick twice from food cooked at home. Both times, I scoured the labels for ingredients...
  13. I just wanted to add that your symptoms sound very familiar to mine. I got sick in May 2009 and progressively grew worse until I had dropped about 20 lbs. (my nickname was ALREADY Skinny Jenny!) and couldn't even care for my kids. Even if your B12 is under 300, it can make you feel awful. For me, my B12 was 293 and my vitamin D was in the teens. Getting these...
  14. Apparently I am just clueless about lab tests. I've tried and tried to understand all the ins and outs of IgA and IgG tests, but I am still confused. I do understand that Celiacs are more likely to be IgA deficient. Here are my questions: 1. If you are IgA deficient, will this mean that your IgA numbers will be very low? My labs from last year did not...
  15. mushroom, I am starting to think that's the best way to go. My family usually eats out once a week with my in-laws. It's like Russian roulette! My family is very supportive, but I've been sick for so long that I hate imposing on them. But my new thought is that it isn't imposing on ANYONE to just have something to drink and maybe a plain baked potato, then...
  16. So, I don't have an official diagnosis, and my IgG and IgA blood work was negative. But why else would I be doing so well when I am cooking gluten-free at home - for a month now - and then get sick every time I eat out and make "educated guesses"? After reading a bunch of stuff about McDonald's fries, I decided to give them a go. Within an hour, I started...
  17. I've been at this almost a month, but we eat out a good bit on the weekends. I've found that chains are easier because you can check their website beforehand. At all the "Mom and Pop" restaurants, I always have to guess. But I am getting better at that - like someone said, meat with no seasonings/sauces and a baked potato. My latest "you've got to be...
  18. Congratulations! You are a kind person and even though I've been here a short time, you've already been an encouragement. I celebrate with you! Someone should bake you a good ol' gluten-free CAKE!
  19. ...or that God let Satan have his way with him. Wait. I think that's the same thing.
  20. Hmmmm. This leaky gut thing is interesting. I actually got stricter with the diet (being more careful to use my good pans and storing things in glass containers) since I started this post two days ago. So far, so good. I don't feel great, but I feel better, and that's enough for now. I also went ahead and made an appointment with my GP for next...
  21. Until you find something else, could you use a mask? I don't know if that would work, but maybe some "old-timers" would know.

    ARCHIVED Endoscopy?

A colonoscopy checks out your lower GI track. An endoscopy checks out the upper part. You could always request a two for one special. Unfortunately, I had them done at different times and they didn't bother to check for Celiac.
  23. What is this "leaky gut" that you speak of? Off to do another search... (Can you tell I was a librarian in my pre-mommy days? )
