ARCHIVED 5-Yr-Old ... Need Help
divamomma replied to LittleTee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mine wasn't hesitant at all! I brought my daughter in with my concerns about ongoing issues(behavior, tirednedness, constipation, lethargy, dark circles, constant hunger etc) None of her symptoms were "typical" celiac symptoms. My dr suggested running some blood work, I agreed not knowing exactly what was checked off on the requisition. Two days later she... -
ARCHIVED 5-Yr-Old ... Need Help
divamomma replied to LittleTee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am also in Canada. Your family dr can order the blood test, it is on a regular requistion. I would absolutely push for the blood test. A diagnosis will make it easier for your child to stick to the diet and will help others (including school staff) take you seriously. I know it is so tough waiting. Be strong! -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea On Period. What Gives?
divamomma replied to GFreeMO's topic in Related Issues & Disorders

This will be my daughter's first Halloween since being diagnosed. I also have a 7 yr old daughter without celiac. I am very nervous about halloween and trick or treating. It has alwasy been such a big deal for us and my kids love it, so do my husband and I. How do you all handle the halloween candy? Do you let them eat the gluten-free stuff and then do what...

ARCHIVED I Hate The Word "disease"
divamomma posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was very annoyed and disappointed yesterday at the library. I was looking for Dana Korn's book regarding children and celiac disease. The aisle where it was located had a big sign above it that said "DISEASES". I felt awful. It should not be labelled as a "disease" and I really hate the whole term "celiac disease". I usually just call it celiac but why... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Celiac In Children
divamomma replied to TatersMom08's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was exhausted all the time before she was diagnosed. She also slept 12-13 hours straight at night. She would cry for bedtime every night, say she was too tired to play, color etc. All she wanted to do was watch tv. I would try for testing first before going gluten-free but would definitely go gluten-free if the test is negative or inconclusive... -
ARCHIVED Making Safe Gluten Free List For Preschool
divamomma replied to andrea2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I insisted that kids wash their hands before and after snack to eliminate cross contamination in the classroom. Glue, paint, playdough all need to be gluten-free. There are some common brands that are gluten-free you just need to check. I am in canada but Elmers and UHU glue sticks are safe as well as Sargent paint. Crayola Model Magic dough is also safe... -
ARCHIVED Hand Washing Alternatives At School
divamomma replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree, wipes would be better than hand sanitizer. But shouldn't ALL the kids be washing before lunch? -
ARCHIVED Great gluten-free Dining In Anaheim!
divamomma posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We just got back from our vacation in Anaheim. We had excellent luck eating out and my daughter was 100% OK!!! So relieved! We ate in Disneyland a few times, they have a great list of the gluten-free options throughout the park. (Go into City Hall and ask for the list upon your arrival.) I called the Rainforest cafe in downtown disney before we arrived... -
ARCHIVED 13 Month Old Being Tested
divamomma replied to AMom2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had no visible gastro symptoms either. She never vomited or had diarrhea. She also was never malnourished, little, short or underweight. She was always above average for height and weight. I would ask for a referral to a gastro for a scope/biopsy. -
ARCHIVED Daughter Going To Kindergarten. Help1
divamomma replied to divamomma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am not asking them to ban gluten. I know that is ridiculous and impossible. However I do believe that where changes can be made they should. Things that can minimize the risk of CC should be done. On a good note I finally found out which of the two teachers she will have for Kindergarten. It is the same teacher who my 6 year old had last year in kindy... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Going To Kindergarten. Help1
divamomma replied to divamomma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you!!!! I am totally willing to meet them halfway and do more than is required of me. gluten-free dough is easy to come by and is actually alot neater than traditional playdough. gluten-free glue is easy to find, just have to get the right kind. The paint used in the school is already gluten free so yay! I know some parents like bringing in cupcakes... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Going To Kindergarten. Help1
divamomma posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Instead of retyping everything I would like to provide a link to a thread I started on another site. I hope that is allowed? I posted on that site to gain some insight into Canadian allergy laws/school plans etc. Please read my post and the replies. I feel like nobody gets being celiac, or waht gluten can do to a celiac. Am I nuts?? Open Original Shared... -

ARCHIVED 17 Month Son, Possible Celiac?
divamomma replied to mamabickler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would do the testing. It is tough for sure but having a clear diagnosis is at times very helpful. If the test came back negative then I would consider eliminating gluten anyhow. -
ARCHIVED Aero Bars In Canada
divamomma posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can not find any information anywhere about Aero bars. Are these gluten free or not? I am in Canada. -
ARCHIVED Help, My Daughter Was Glutened
divamomma posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So the tootsie website claims that Junior Mints are gluten-free but my daughter has gotten gluten 2 days in a row and I am almost 100% sure it was from junior mints. Is this possible? -
ARCHIVED School Celebrations Without Shared Food (Ideas?)
divamomma replied to seezee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that schools need to focus less on using food as rewards and celebrations. When my daughter enters kindergarten in the fal I am darn well going to fight to have nothing food related allowed for birthdays. Seems there is always a birthday celebrated in the classrooms. Cupcakes are much too messy, who will clean all the crumbs and ensure crumbs are... -
ARCHIVED Arbonne Personal Care Products
divamomma replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link Arbonne claims their baby products are gluten free but on the package they list oats as one of the ingredients. I think people need to be aware of this. Arbonne is gaining a reputation of being gluten-free but not all of their products are. -

ARCHIVED I'm Sad
divamomma replied to Mothering3's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel everything you have described. We are two months in and it is getting easier to live with. Cooking is easier, shopping is easier etc. However I am still extremely upset that my daughter has this, that she can never order in pizza, never wander into a bakery that smells so fresh and yummy, never walk into a store and buy whatever she sees, never share... -
