I always figured mine had to be migraines - unbelieveably painful and they took over my life. But I couldn't get a doctor to agree until one gave me a sample of Frova (a med like Imitrex) and my "headache" went away. I don't get any lights or halos, sometimes one has been bad enough I have been nauseated. A lot of the time they feel to me like a layer of...

I was just curious how many of us have migraines. I have had them my whole life - they were misdiagnosed as tension headaches so they never really would go away (no proper meds, diet recommendations, etc). When I discovered I was sensitive to nightshades and stopped eating them 6 years ago they mostly went away, I had one a day nearly every day before then...

You should see all the shampoo and conditioner I have in my bathroom now! My husband was laughing about it this morning. I have been looking for a gluten/wheat free shampoo and conditioner that don't have any parabens in them. AND to be totally fussy, I want them to be nice to my hair. I have gone through many... still not satisfied but getting there. Anyway...

ARCHIVED How Do You Make Then Understand What It Is!
skbird replied to roddi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yikes, this tread reminded me I'm having dinner at my MIL's tonight for the first time since going gluten-free. I have been on a hypoglycemia diet for the last 3 years and it's all I can do to get her to understand that - and she doesn't understand most of it at that. Still is disappointed I won't eat any of her deserts she makes, pasta, white bread rolls... -
ARCHIVED Bringing Your Own Items To Restaurants?
skbird replied to hiphobokenmama's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My mom used to always do that! And in the sugar shaker, too. Rice would have gotten through the top for the sugar. I hadn't thought about that. Do restaurant butter-ish things sometimes have gluten in them? I have been avoiding anything that they might dip meat in first. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Confused By My Results
skbird replied to skbird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for your thoughts, Sally and Mariann. I was confused this morning because I have such bad IBS symptoms when I have gluten and was really surprised that my antibodies were as low as they were (supposedly EnteroLab's process can detect them for up to 2 years after going gluten-free) but after spending the day thinking about it I feel you are right. I... -
ARCHIVED Confused By My Results
skbird posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got my EnteroLab results today. I'm happy to not have a tested sensitivity to dairy but am a little confused by my gluten results. I appear to have one of the genes that could indicate gluten sensitivity and microscopic colitis but not generally associated with Celiac. I have no malabsorption. And my antibody level is the highest normal, so on paper, not... -
ARCHIVED White Flecks On Fingernails...
skbird replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went low carb three years ago and within a few months my nails, which were always thin and breaking, were growing out really strong. I had one that had a perpetual split (right thumb) and it started growing out unsplit. My mom says now she always envies my nails because I can grow them out. They started getting weaker as I started eating wholegrains again... -
ARCHIVED My York Results
skbird replied to Melanie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Melanie- I've noticed different wheats cause different reactions in me, too. For example, before I went gluten-free I would eat a thin crust pizza at Round Table and have nearly no reaction (or none at all). Then I could eat whole wheat or sprouted wheat and start having gastro symptoms. I also will feel somewhat nauseated when I eat whole wheat. I haven... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In
skbird replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I emailed the email I found for Dr. Fine (on the finerliving website) and it got returned as I guess it gets too much spam. So then I dug up a phone number and tried calling this morning and finally got through after lunch - they had seen my email and were going to email me later that day but my tests aren't complete yet. So I asked how much longer... -
I hadn't tried to make my own pizza crust yet but decided to try this recipe last night. I found it to be easier than the recipe looks and tastes GREAT! Even better than some of my normal pizza crusts (I know, everyone says that but it's true ). I made a couple of substitutions - I didn't have any gelatin so I increased the xanthan gum to three tsp...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In
skbird replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good suggestion, Mariann. I sent earlier today an email to the three emails on the site (but not Dr. Fine's) as well as the "results" email that was used to send me the wrong results this past weekend - I did have a couple of emails with the lab supervisor this past weekend with that one. I'll try to root out Dr. Fine's. Stephanie -

I'm at three weeks and two days and I'm impatient, too! Plus I was sent someone else's results last weekend. I have emailed twice but haven't phoned - didn't see a number on the site. I'll give that a try today. Chomping at the bit! I even dreamed about my results last night!!! LOL Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In
skbird replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I keep reading all the Entero Lab topics because I am very impatient waiting for my results but must say I am glad to keep reading that canker sores are a symptom. I have had them my whole life, not frequently (IE probably 3-4 times a year) but every time I have them - something I just take for granted - my husband tries to tell me I have some kind of... -

ARCHIVED Target
skbird replied to Roo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Target near me is not a Super Target and it has limited food. However, I do buy Natures Made vitamins there, they are gluten-free (they say free of gluten on the label). I've also found these at Walgreens and Raley's/Bel Aire stores. Things are pretty cheap there - I find a lot of health care products there are cheaper than other places, also toilet... -
ARCHIVED Gf Ravioli
skbird replied to Roo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Still looking for a good pasta recipe. I got really good at making my own pasta low carb but used a TON of gluten... So I need to find something else. Has anyone seen gluten-free or rice pasta shells? The big kind? That would be a lot like ravioli without the work, even easier I think than rolling up lasagne noodles (though that's a really good one... -
ARCHIVED Gf Ravioli
skbird replied to Roo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually making your own isn't that hard. You just need a pasta recipe (OK, I don't have one but I could look one up...) Then you can take round cookie cutters or a small glass and cut the two pieces, fill them with ricotta and parm or any other combo, and seal with egg white brushed around the edges. I always thought making your own pasta was a major... -
Klonopin And Gluten?
skbird replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, that's not a fun one to go cold turkey on. I did the same, four days of hell! I don't know whether or not it's gluten-free but if it isn't, go slowly... Stephanie -
Me three. Similar story, had a doctor check me for cysts, said he didn't think I had any, felt around, etc. No scans or xrays. Was on the pill at the time and he changed it to another kind. Well, I have been off the pill for 4 years now (it never helped in that department) and I still get this from time to time. Still told no cysts. My mom has one that comes...

ARCHIVED Malabsorption - How To Heal Gut
skbird replied to skbird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, it was weird because I didn't realize they weren't mine - just that they weren't complete. So I was thinking all day wow, these are my results and then later in the day (I'd emailed to ask about the other results) I got an email asking if I could verify my name. Hmmm. Hopefully I'll get my real results in the next couple of day. Stephanie -

ARCHIVED St. Ives

I don't think this list is complete. One I didn't see listed is this: Hair Repair Intense Conditioner That has hydrolyzed wheat protein, too. I used to love this one... Stephanie -
Hi - I stopped drinking about two years ago after being an on-again, off-again moderate drinker for about 10 years (I live in a town that makes beer, it's the drink of choice around here). Anyway, I had figured out I was hypoglycemic but couldn't understand what the deal was with alcohol. At this point I can have wine/etc in cooked foods but I can't drink...

ARCHIVED Cd Confused With Anorexia...
skbird replied to bored-girl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Whitney - I don't look anorexic (though in high school I was 138 - 5'10" and at my 10 year reunion people told me they *thought* I was anorexic back then) and am currently just under 150. But my "best" friend recently leveled with me a couple of weeks back that I obviously have food issues (duh!) and that I have gone up and down in weight the 8 years...
