  1. My husband would be skinny and'D'.Never 'C'!
  2. Hi wandering hermit. You are right to say to continue to eat gluten would put you at a greater risk of cancer. My husband's the coeliac, and we always refer to 'gluten' as rat poison for him! I'm not suprised your doc had it wrong. It would seem docs have alot to learn about coeliac.(In a few months time you will probably know more about coeliac than...
  3. When the docs were trying to diagnose my husband they were very interested in his fingernails & toenails. He has 'clubbed' fingers & toes. This is often seen in bowel diseases (crohns too) & heart conditions. Not sure why though?
  4. Most coeliacs are diagnosed through blood tests, with a biopsy confirming'villous atrophy'(damage to the bowel lining). This type of damage is typical for coeliac disease. During an endoscopy the tube passes through the stomach on to the duodenum where samples are taken to be sent to labs(Biopsy). The duodenum is the first part of the small bowel.Under...
  5. My husband was dx with psoriatic arthritis 4 yrs ago.Coeliac was dx 7 months ago.HIs arthritis is basically the same as ra but with the skin condition psoriasis. This is also an autoimmune disease. My husbands gut troubles started with him taking NSAIDs (non steriodal anti inflammatories). These are routinely prescribed for arthritic conditions,as a pain...
  6. Thanks all for your posts. In answer to your questions regarding his neurological state,he is on a waiting list to see a neurologist-however there is only one neurologist at my hospital(it's ridiculous)-so he can expect a year wait. I know MRI's have been mentioned to pick up lesions(hate to think of the waiting list for that!)but my husband did have aCT...
  7. Hi Judy, thanks for your post. All prescribable drugs in uk are gluten-free.He's gonna try going 'lactose' free at least until we can get tests done.Cutting out dairy seems too hard at the moment-about the only thing he eats is jacket potato with butter & cheese !
  8. If you devlope a lactose intolerance after going gluten-free-surely you would have diarrhea? I know my husband should try to cut the milk ,but what about other dairy products? It's hard because often the only thing he can manage is a high energy milkshake,or a jacket potato with butter or cheese.Without...
  9. Megan ,I would be very interested how you get on as my husband is in a similar situation.Been gluten-free(so very strict!) for 7 months. He's unable to put any weight on and is about 120 pounds, however his bloods have always been negative.Docs want to try steriods next I think. We're waiting the results of second biopsy, but not terribly optimistic-as he's still...
  10. Thanks all for your replies, Just to clarify,my husband is definately gluten-free.I check everything to the point of obsession,& am well aware of risks involving cross contamination.(He has not eaten out since dx of celiac disease). It has been suggested to me that maybe my hubbie has had celiac disease undiagnosed since childhood.(He is now 40yrs)...
  11. Hi all!New too this board so bear with me. My husband was diagnosed 9months ago.Been gluten-free 7 months.Hubbie was also diagnosed with rheumatiod arthritis 3 years ago.Stomach troubles seem to start with him taking nsaids and sulphasalazine for the arthritis.Ended up in hospital for a month for massive weight loss.Bloods were negative(borderline apparently...
