  1. Yeah,I thought it was running slow the other day,& I couldn't find an answer to a post for a day,but I think it had something to do with when it's 'pinned'
  2. My husbands had 2 biopsies since diagnosis a year ago. He first repeat biopsy showed limited improvement after 6months-(he never cheated)so doc put him on steroids. These seem to have improved things greatly. Hubbies nearly off the steroids now-and has a far better appetite than he's had in years, and we're waiting for results of 2nd biopsy.I'd bet it shows...
  3. I think the theory behind this is(bare with me) is echinacea boosts your immune system. If you suffer from an autoimmune disease(such as celiac disease)your immune system is really super sensitive and working too hard already.Your immune system is so good, that it's turned in on itself(think of rheumatiod arthritis where the body attacks the joints) So...
  4. Hi Heartmum, welcome to the board. I'm in the U.K too.My husband's a coeliac. My full sympathies for having to see your little one have heart surgery-my middle son has has open heart surgery twice-so I know what a worrying time you've had. Regarding tests for coeliac, The general concensus is that blood tests for coeliac disease are unreliable in kids...
  5. That's interesting Rachel, having googled 'graves disease' alot of the symptoms do fit.Should be able to get our gp to check his thyroid levels. Thanks Thanks to evryone else who replied.I am still in contact with the psychiatric team so I will be mentioning his behaviour leaning towards manic. The last few days he seems to have calmed down a bit,a...
  6. Yup,I checked everything!I'm obsessed.gluten-free diet seems to be working now though after course of steriods. Many thanks
  7. Ok,I'm gonna answer my own post here. I logged out ,then back in and I found it!?
  8. I put a post on Related Disorders a couple of hours ago titled 'depression or bipolar'. It's gone now-disappeared!Where has it gone? Thanks.
  9. Hi all. Having a bit of a hard time at the moment with my husband. Dx'd with celiac disease 14 months ago(he was very ill)-but was unresponsive to gluten-free diet alone and had to go on steroids. I've read lots of people say their depressive symptoms got better on a gluten-free diet. My husband never does things by the book-and has had a breakdown...
  10. A doctor cannot diagnose coeliac disease without waiting for the lab results. Even if the bowel looked inflammed to the naked eye,it is only the lab results that will tell you how bad the 'villi' damage is.
  11. Debmidge,I am just like you in that my husband struggles to keep what little weight he has on-whereas I only have to look at food!....it's a constant battle! I too am 'pear' shaped no matter how my weight fluctuates.
  12. Hi Rachel,- I looked up the definition of the word 'Ataxia' in the dictionary It means-'Difficulty controlling body movements'. My husbands Neurologist agrees that hubby has 'some Ataxia',and has said some of his reflexes are not right. He is currently waiting to have an 'EMG' in a London hosp(long waiting list)An Emg is where an electrode is placed...
  13. Hi Rachel, I'm not a coeliac(hubby is) but I've been gluten-free for around 6 months now. I kind of found out by accident that when I don't eat gluten my skin clears up.! I've has Ezcema since I was a baby, and over the years was coming to rely on steroid creams more and more. I'd always get it in reoccuring places all over my body. Not all the...
  14. Hi Jennifer. My husband has suffered from 'Gluten Ataxia'(Although not been officially diagnosed as such-he's still under investigation by the Neurologist) His symptoms were: Unsteady on his feet, Clumsy(always dropping things) Shuffling gait when walking 'Brain Fog'(Unable to concentrate, focus on anything, feeling 'detatched' from his surroundings...
  15. Corn bread, have you considered it may be starchy things(potato,rice-not sure about gluten-free bread)or maybe yeast? Although I'm not a coeliac (my husband is)-I'm gluten-free too as my ezcema reacts to gluten. I've found I get uncomfortably bloated after gluten-free bread and rice. I'm trying to work it out too!

    ARCHIVED Vitiligo

Very interesting thread. My husband had celiac disease dx by biopsy(neg bloods) My son has Vitiligo and Down's Syndrome. At around the time the white patches appeared so did the bowel probs(frequent trips to loo, very loose pale stools) He has had the blood test for celiac disease but it was negative (borderline). We are now waiting for an appointment...
  17. It certainately sounds like all your symptoms could be caused by coeliac disease. You need to get that blood test. As I'm in UK I can't recommend a doc for your area, but I'm sure someone will be on who can. BTW did your Ob/Gyn diagnose Polycystic Ovaries? If so-have you had an ultrasound of your ovaries? Good Luck
  18. To be blunt,-if you are diagnosed with coeliac disease-and continue to eat gluten foods you put yourself at serious risk of lymphoma of the bowel. It is alot to take on board I know.My husband was diagnosed a year ago and couldn't believe a simple thing that everyone eats could do so much damage. Unfortunately my husband too thinks he had it all his life...
  19. Hi Emily Ann,your experience has some similarities with my husband. After diagnosis by biopsy-we too had high hopes for the gluten-free diet.My husband was in a very bad way and was almost bedridden he was so weak. After weeks nothing seemed to be happening, and believe me we was strict!! There was no way gluten was getting in his diet. Anyway...
  20. Just like to say Rachel you look so much better!(hope you don't mind me saying!)
  21. Hubbie had his first 'gluten' dream the other night. Apparently he was eating a cheese and tomato sandwich-and thoroughly enjoying it too,-but before he'd finished he suddenly remembered and was filled with panic. 'my wife will go mad' was his next thought!!LOL.
  22. Sorry, just read your post Rachel,I've just asked the same question?Brain running a bit slow tonight....
  23. My husbands was 12 for the tTg which was negative . Positive biopsy though. My son had the test a couple of months ago and scored a 10(neg again)but surely if there's 'no coeliac' it should read zero??(Have asked for a referal for gastro doc as symptoms continue) Wondered if other celiac disease'ers antibodies ever go to zero?
  24. My husband was dx with Psoriatic Arthritis about 2 yrs before celiac disease. Psoriatic Arthritis is very similar to rheumatoid arthritis. Anyhow ,the arthritis was very painful, very aggresive flare ups and he had a general decline in health. Since going gluten-free a year ago-his psoriasis has disappeared completely-and has only had niggles in his...
  25. What a shame, that looked like a good article! Glad to hear that you've put some weight on. Maybe you could post your results on this board-I'm sure someone could decipher your results,or try www.labtestsonline.org (sorry couldn't get link to work), it is an English website so I dunno if it's any good for your results. Good Luck!
