ARCHIVED Those Of You Who Know About Blood Tests....
nikki-uk replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My husband was finally dx at aged 40. He too had a neg result on the bloods, but a biopsy showed positive. He has alway's been very thin, and (for as long as I've known him-20yrs!)hardly ever ate any sizeable amount. By the time of diagnosis he could only manage a few mouthfuls(he was very ill),so hardly suprising he got a negative! -

ARCHIVED Feeding Tube Anyone?
nikki-uk replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had a feeding tube from birth to 2 yrs(because of a heart condition) Even at this young age it was difficult to manage. To pass the tube on a teenager would require some level of co-operation on your daughters part. Docs generally aren't keen unless the patient agrees. Even though he was only a baby ,I used to have to 'pin down' my son to pass... -

ARCHIVED Any "home-canners" Out There?
nikki-uk replied to jenvan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Jen, When I grew the beans I made a frame from bamboo canes up against my fence, attaching them together with garden twine. The gardens here are oblong and have 6 ft fence panelling either side(my own little box!) Mind you the beans grew further than the 6 ft fence, and trailed down over into my neighbours garden.!(free beans for them!) They did... -

I can't believe I just found this thread! I love my (small) garden-hee hee and I'm getting so excited that spring will be here soon and my bulbs are starting to come up(daffodils and tulips). Thanks to Shirley on a different thread for the tip of putting moth balls down to stop the peskey squirrels digging them up. I also try to grow some veg in limited... -
ARCHIVED Ingesting Gluten Didn't Affect Me
nikki-uk replied to Iman Aussie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband did a similar thing after he was diagnosed. He also doubted the diagnosis because he didn't feel anybetter after months.(in denial)! He ate a toasted cheese sandwich and had no reaction at all. Not long after that he had another biopsy taken which showed that his villi had healed a little bit ,but not fully healed. I convinced him that... -

ARCHIVED How Long Did It Rtake You To Recover After Diagnosis?
nikki-uk replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My husband has been gluten-free now for 16 months and he's still recovering,-admittedly he was very ill by the time of diagnosis though. It can take some adults up to 2 years for their gut to heal and the villi to fully grow back. After 6 months gluten-free my husband had seen no improvement in his health at all,and unfortunately a biopsy revealed... -
Well I don't know about that!I'm in the UK and people are just as clueless here.!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free But Don't Have To Be?
nikki-uk replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not a coeliac,It's my choice I'm gluten-free. In fact my husband's the coeliac. I went gluten-free(initially) to support him and to make meal times easier. I discovered that my lifelong complaint of eczema cleared up dramatically. Unfortunately, I don't get to cheat though-whenever I have any gluten I go hot and feel sick ,palpitations,and... -

ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
nikki-uk replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Blended veg can taste a bit gruesome! What you can do is blend your veg then freeze it in an icecube tray. Once frozen add about 4 cubes to your liquid fruit smoothie and blend again. You won't then be able to taste the veg! -

ARCHIVED Migraines And Worse Symptoms After gluten-free?
nikki-uk replied to Merika's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could he have develped a lactose intolerance? My hubbie started to get terrible headaches and stomach gripes after about 9 months gluten-free. He cut the milk out,and it stopped.Slowly he's tried to re-introduce it-and found he can tolerate small amounts. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Malabsorbtion
nikki-uk replied to Jenn2005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Jennifer, I was in your shoes 18 or so months ago. My husband was dx with coeliac 18months ago. By the time he was diagnosed he was seriously ill, hospitalized and bed ridden some days. His weight had dropped to 110 pounds and he was in a bad way. When he got the diagnosis,at first we was really pleased,we had finally found out what had... -
ARCHIVED What Could This Be?
nikki-uk replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Rachel's story of chest pain is very similar to what happened to my husband. Before diagnosis,my husband was very ill. 3 times we rushed to the hospital because of the chest pains. I was really scared he was having a heart attack. Docs could never explain the cause. I might add my husband suffers from 'panic attacks'-but these were different... -

ARCHIVED Did You Know Someone With Celiac
nikki-uk replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep,I know what you mean-it's a learning curve for all our family when my hubby was dx 18 months ago. He was very ill and the docs told me they were looking for Crohn's diease or Coeliac disease.I went home and googled the 2 diseases-and promptly decided that my husband had to have Crohn's as he was far too ill for it to be 'just an intolerance to a food... -
I've used vinegar too!It must be an acid thing. My son that get's the hiccups does not have coeliac disease-at least his tTg was borderline-bowel symptoms continue though. Would any of you consider hiccups as another 'sign' of coeliac?(Along with his foul stools, achey legs, bloated tum,headaches...)
