ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Poop For A Minute?
Financialman replied to jeannieknits's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a similar problem when I was diagnosed with Celiacs Disease in October 2009. I noticed you did not mention that you were eating any fruits. Fruits were the solution to my problem and have keep me fairly regular ever since. Too much of anything, whether gluten free or not, can cause problems. Try eating apples, blueberries, pears and see what happens... -
ARCHIVED So Difficult Stay Gluten Free
Financialman replied to glutenfreeresistant's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dear Glutenfreeresistant, I was diagnosed with Celiacs in October of 2009 also. It has turned my life upside down and screwed up most of my social life. This isn't about a diet it is about a lifestyle change. You have two choices. You can ignore the damage that you do to your small intestine by worrying about your friends not understanding or you can... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Symptoms...
Financialman replied to Nexangelus's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You do seem to have a lot of the symptoms of Celiac disease. The problem with a lot of autoimmune diseases, which is what Celiac disease is, is when you get one you usually wind up getting another and possibly a third. Everyone is different. It is good you are going and getting tested but keep in mind that right now the only way you can know for sure if... -
ARCHIVED San Diego Celiacs?
Financialman replied to Wheat Wacker's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's not really an inconsistent disease it just that it is not diagnosed very often. When I was diagnosed in November 0f 2009 my gastroenterologist told me he had about 10 minutes of training on auto immune diseases in medical school. After I was diagnosed, I read everything I could get my hands on and the next time I went back to see my doctor, when we... -
ARCHIVED Stress And Food Intolerances?
Financialman replied to India's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also loved sausage but it stopped loving me. It wasn't the sausage that was making me sick...it was the MSG in ALL beef sausage that I looked at. I stopped eating beef sausage and now only eat turkey sausage and problem solved. For whatever reason, no one in the the grocery store meat department could explain, they only put MSG in beef sausage. If you... -
ARCHIVED United Airlines
Financialman replied to GlutenGladi8or's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear that more airlines are serving gluten free meals. But be aware that just because they serve gluten free meals that they will serve you a gluten free meal. Let me explain. I flew on Continental, which servies gluten free meals, from Louisville, Ky. to Dallas to Seattle and they would not provide a gluten free meal for me. They said they do... -
ARCHIVED San Diego Celiacs?
Financialman replied to Wheat Wacker's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey Dylan, Unfortunately there are plenty of people with Celiac Disease so you won't have any problem finding them when you really start looking. The membership on this forum is in the tens of thousands from all over the place. If you Google Celiac support groups for your state you should get a listing of support groups in your area. As Celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Eat Anything Anymore! I Give Up :(
Financialman replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with trying the elimination diet. You mentioned you ate grapes and you also drank wine. Maybe the alcohol has something to do with it or another autoimmune problem like primary biliary cirrohsis. Sounds like you need to talk to a good nutritionist and set up an elimination diet. Don't give up. You have lots of support on this forum and sooner... -
I'm glad someone asked that question. I was wondering how to keep track of "where" you post. Technical computer stuff gives me a headache.

ARCHIVED Develop Celiac Disease At 35
Financialman replied to uruboy02's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Unfortunatly Celiac disease doesn't recognize or care about your age. Since it is a genetic disease it can lie dormant for many years until a "triggering event" sets it off. That is what happened to me and I am well past 35. The good news is you can manage it and it is getting better everyday with all of the many gluten free food companies that are popping... -
Hi CathyG, You are right when you said this is an amazing community. There is so much good information here that you can't seem to get from the medical community, at least where I currently live. Seems like the good ole US is a little behind in looking at Celiac disease as a real "medical" problem. We should have more doctors join and read this site...

ARCHIVED Anyone From Washington State?
Financialman replied to Noche22's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just wanted to say hello to those people living in Washington. I am moving to the Seattle area in May, 2011 and will be looking for a support group to join. I am not sure where I will be living just yet so if anyone has any ideas of a couple of support groups I would appreciate it. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Allergy And Grain Alcohol
Financialman replied to creesal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My understanding is the distilling process in making any distilled alcohol, vodka, bourbon, scotch, and a few others are safe to drink. The distilling process does not allow the gluten protein from the wheat, rye, or barley to survive the distilling process. You still need to be cautious. You may be experiencing an allergy to alcohol because of a potential... -
You may want to try meats from Whole Foods who sell only gluten free fresh lunch meats. I have been eating their lunch meats for over a year now and have had no adverse reactions. For me that is saying a lot because I get sick from saying the word gluten so I am hyper sensitive. I have also both lunch meats and other meats from Aldi's and haven't had a...

Financialman replied to sforce's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't be concerned because you think you are whinning. Celiac Disease is a life change and not a diet...a difficult life change. You have a lot of company and help with the people on this forum so don't hesitate to ask your questions. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in November 2009 and it was all the caring other Celiacs, not the medical professionals... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free 15 Days
Financialman replied to glutenmik's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in November 2009 so I am getting to be an ole pro at this. Unfortunately when you feel better will depend on how long you have been a celiac and if you follow the "correct" lifestyle. I said lifestyle because this is not a diet. Be patient with yourself and learn as much as you can about what you can and cannot eat and...
