  1. I am dealing with neuropathy (I guess that's what it is) in my hands and arms. It is sometimes really painful. I used to think it was caused by accidental "glutening" but I am getting it more frequently. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this celiac-related or ... not? Just wondering about other celiacs' opinions/experiences on this.
  2. Apologies if someone has posted this already. This article makes me so mad. It's on yahoo news and I'm just wondering what you all think about it. I have celiac disease so I'm not really who they are talking about here, but it still makes me mad.The last thing I need is people second guessing my need to be gluten free! Grrrr! 3. LOL at all of these, I can totally relate. I've been vegetarian for over 20 years and vegan for 10+ so I'm totally used to people asking completely idiotic questions and making dumb remarks about what I can/can't eat. Maybe that was practice for being diagnosed with celiac because I get even more people who are clueless. And I hate when people say "I could...
  4. I did have to replace the toaster and make our kitchen a gluten free kitchen. Maybe some people aren't that sensitive, but I am.
  5. I have been a vegan for more than 10 years, and a vegetarian for more than 20 years. I was diagnosed with celiac a couple years ago, so that meant I had to give up most meat substitutes (like veggie dogs) as most of them are made from gluten. That leaves tofu, which I keep hearing is really not good to eat a lot of. :/ I never missed meat until I had to...
  6. Thank you everyone for your responses. My doc that did the endo had me in a year after the endo and did a blood test and said it looks like I'm still getting glutened and that I need to make sure that I don't eat ANY gluten -- even stuff that says "made in a facility that processes wheat" blah blah blah. So I have been more careful since then. I am finding...
  7. Does anyone know if celiac damage is linked to serotonin imbalance? I have heard that serotonin is produced in our intestines and I'm wondering if everything is supposed to get ironed out after eliminating gluten or does the lingering intestinal damage mess with serotonin levels? Am I making sense? My endo showed a lot of damage apparently. I have been...
  8. Thanks for the suggestions and info everyone!! I don't have any B deficiencies, which is probably pretty amazing considering vegan diet/celiac. The best I have ever felt was right before i had kids, maybe they are just sapping my energy, haha! Seriously though, I wasn't eating very much food at that time, mostly salads and smoothies, so it may have been...
  9. Hi Bee, I just wanted to say that I know how you feel, we've all been there. This is a great forum. I have been depressed about having celiac too. When I go somewhere I often bring my own food. I do think it makes people feel weird, but I would rather risk offending someone than chance getting sick by eating their food. I also still go to dinner with friends...
  10. OK I have a couple of questions. (Background: I was diagnosed with celiac a couple years ago, and have been on a strict gluten-free diet ever since.) 1. Is corn masa gluten free? I bought a bag of it from Albertsons and made tamale pie. I was sick as a dog the next day. Was it the corn masa? I thought it was just made out of corn?? 2. My next question...
  11. I read that Bulleye bbq sauce is gluten free, but I notice it says it has modified food starch? I thought modified food starch was questionable? We're going camping and my husband wants to bring this bottle of Bulleye sweet and tangy, is it OK for me to eat this stuff? Thanks in advance!
  12. Thanks for the info, everyone.
  13. I don't know if this is a related disorder (isn't everything related to celiac? ha ha) but I was wondering if anyone knows of a good TMJ forum/message board. By good, I mean like this one -- where people are posting all the time, and not like the TMJ boards that I've seen that nobody has posted on since 2003. I'm being driven nuts by TMJ issues lately......
  14. I agree about certain things not needing "awareness" at this point. Really who the hell isn't aware of breast cancer? That's not to say it's not serious -- I have had several members of my family that had breast cancer. But it's the unknown ones that need awareness! If I had been aware of celiac disease (or bladder prolapse!) I would not have suffered as...
  15. No. Pyroluria is a genetic condition involving an abnormality in hemoglobin synthesis.
  16. Anyone know if there is a "link" between celiac and pyroluria? I am only now hearing of pyroluria but I think I have it. Is it just a coincidence that I also have celiac, or is there some cause and effect or link going on here? I emailed my doctor to see if they will test me for pyroluria, but he hasn't replied yet...
  17. Yep I have those dreams too. I guess from being paranoid all day about eating gluten, that fear gets into our dreams. Maybe do some meditation or affirmations before you go to sleep. Or at least remind yourself that you didn't eat any gluten today before you drift off.
  18. I don't do that only because I don't want people to think it's just wheat. A lot of stuff has barley malt, right? I drink a lot of herbal tea and I had to throw out a bunch because of that. I guess I could say I have celiac and I'm allergic to wheat. Sigh... Why is this so complicated...
  19. Our Trader Joe's doesn't have gluten-free beer. Bevmo is good for gluten-free beer. I have tried New Grist, Redbridge and one other one, forgot the name, and they were okaaaay... but honestly, gluten-free beer in my opinion is just NOT the same as real beer. I was a "beer person" before, and now I'm not because I'm not impressed with the gluten-free variety...
  20. Hi everybody, I haven't been on here in a while... I'm pretty sure I have PMDD. I'm a different person before my period and not in a good way. I think I need to just get on some medication for it finally, but every time I get any kind of prescription from the pharmacy (which isn't often, thankfully), the pharmacists can never seem to tell me if the meds...
  21. Wow I'm surprised to hear people saying their hearing has improved. My audiologist basically said once it's gone, it's gone, and the damage is done and only gets worse. (Which it has.) Hmmm.... I guess I need to look into this further. I don't know why they don't want to give my kids the celiac blood test. It's kind of pissing me off at this point.
  22. Anyone know if hearing loss is related to celiac? I have celiac disease, and hearing loss that began in my early 20s. First they told me it was noise induced and then they said it could be genetic. (I don't think anyone knows for sure.) But I just found out my 5 year old son has some hearing impairment. I'm devastated. I don't know if he has celiac or not...
  23. I should probably mention that gluten free pizza crusts at restaurants are probably not vegan, so I guess that makes me not exactly 100% vegan. Maybe like, 98% vegan. But... whatever.
  24. Hi My husband and I have been vegan for more than 10 years, and I found out I have celiac about a year and a half ago. Being gluten free, in my opinion, is harder than being vegan, maybe because I chose to be vegan, but I'm forced to be gluten free because I'll get sick if I eat gluten. I'm very sensitive to gluten now so my whole household is pretty much...
  25. So.. rice milk, rice crackers, rice noodles... ? I'm vegan as well as celiac, so I'm already pretty limited diet-wise. It seems like every other day I'm hearing I'm not supposed to eat something or other. Like tofu is supposed to be bad because of phytoestrogens or whatever. But I eat it anyway. Honestly, if it was just me I wouldn't care about poisoning...
