  1. If you don't mind me asking, how do you make your homemade mustard? I found a recipe that uses ground mustard seeds, apple cider vinegar, light brown sugar and honey, but it just does not have the right flavor although it is not bad.
  2. I have actually made a faux "buttercream" with light olive oil. It gives it the ability to spread easier and the taste is pretty good. To cover one double layer 9" cake I use about 4 tbs of light olive oil, about a cup of confectioner's sugar, a splash of water to ease stirring and give it the right consistancy, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and then you use about...
  3. Tonight I am cooking for family to celebrate my dad's birthday and I will be making a steak on the grill, yellow rice, asparagus tomato and basil salad with a lemon mustard dressing and possibly cucumber mango salad (the salads were found on Elana's Pantry website so I am hoping they turn out ok).
  4. Tonight is a simple burger (ground beef with just a little bit of ground pepper, onion and rice chex) and pan fried potatoes with garlic.
  5. The first time it scared her and I thought she was having one of her nightmares, but it didn't seem to bother her the second time, it just woke her up although she would not go back to sleep. She told me that she does not remember what the voices said to her so maybe it really is nothing then. I'm just really unsure about everything with her and her diet...
  6. Very good point. I think I just worry more about her sometimes since unlike my other daughter it isn't obvious GI symptoms. Thank you for reminding me of that though.
  7. Thank you, I will definitely mention that to her doctor.
  8. Chicken and yellow rice again. I really need to get back in the kitchen.
  9. My oldest daughter who is 5 has been on a gluten free diet for approximately 4 months now and we had a situation the other morning that has me concerned. Twice this past week she told my husband and I that she was hearing voices or noises in her head, the first time I just brushed it off as dreams but having it happen again has me concerned. When my husband...
  10. I chose to homeschool my daughter who is turning 5 next month because of celiac. I went to register her for public school when everyone else did and at that time I spoke to the school nurse who was not informed at all, she told us to give our child a small amount of gluten everyday to get over the problem, and I also spoke to the teacher my daughter would...
  11. Tonight we are going simple and are having a garlic rubbed roast beef, crashed potatoes and some sort of green veggie(probably broccoli).
  12. I just tried this recipe and it was really good! The sauce tasted just like the sweet and sour sauce from our local chinese restaurant. Thank you for posting this.
  13. I have read on here that Rice Dream is manufactured with barley so is not in fact gluten free. I hope that you can figure out what is bothering you soon.
  14. My youngest is 18 months old and my other daughter almost 5, but I have to keep food for all of us when we go somewhere. I always try to keep rice cakes in my purse (one of the store brand ones around us is safe but not all Quaker ones are so you could check that and sometimes I have a container of peanut butter for them too). I also carry a Larabar for the...
  15. I'm another one whose relationship was helped by getting rid of the gluten. It was hard for my husband to have to deal with the kids (one who was very sick), dinner, dishes, cleaning and everything else everyday because of me being sick and in pain. For a while he couldn't understand why I couldn't just fix it. And it didn't help that I was sometimes nasty...
  16. I have a Breadman Pro that has a gluten free cycle and I love that it has a jam cycle too. I couldn't tell you how good the bread tastes though because I am afraid to use the bread machine since I used it alot before we went gluten free.
  17. Hubby is making steak on our George Foreman grill and I think I'll make mashed potatoes to go with it, I haven't had them in so long.
  18. My husband came home with two basil plants for me this afternoon and after I got caught up in smelling how wonderful the fresh basil smelled I began thinking and I am almost embarrassed to have to ask this since I find basil to be such a comforting scent, but what is the difference (mostly taste wise) between sweet basil and spicy globe basil? I usually use...
  19. I am not sure if it goes into remission, but I always felt great when I was pregnant. There were no stomach problems to be found until after the child was born.
  20. We tried pad thai last night.
  21. Thank you everyone!!! And I am very happy to add that I got to see my little sister graduate from high school last night:) I think that I really would have regretted if I didn't go so I am so grateful that I was able to, I had a few times before we left that I was getting anxious, but my husband was able to help me calm back down so that we could leave. And...
  22. Tonight we had tacos kind of, instead of using shells we used a baked potato. Very simple yet comforting in a way.
  23. This is really just me putting out there that I think I might finally be getting over some issues:) I went gluten free about 3 months ago, but before that I was someone who wouldn't eat before going out just in case it bothered me and got to the point it didn't matter when I ate, I would be sick and so I got very afraid to go out which is strange since I...
  24. I just found them today at our local Walmart. I will be making rice krispies for my girls later on.
