  1. Digestive advantage is NOT medicine, and does not in ANY way make it safe for you to eat gluten! It is simply something that may mean you get less gassy, maybe wont get diarrhea or vomit. But nothing in this WORLD can stop your immune system from devouring your own intestines, other than NOT EATING GLUTEN.
  2. Everyone here knows exactly what you are going through, thus everyone is being very supportive, which is great. But you need to also be told the cold, hard, very unpleasant truth- which is that it is time to take responsibility for your own health. How serious is what you are doing? Serious enough that your parents could lose custody of you for not enforcing...
  3. Yup, my son was strictly belly aches for two years, until it progressed to panic attacks, anxiety and major depression, pre-diabetes, anemia and b12 deficiency. Diagnosis took so long because drs were only looking for the "classical" symptoms. Blood tests aren't the most reliable in toddlers...push for an endoscopy and biopsy if his pain continues much longer...
  4. Those are all negative. But they didn't do the DGP or the EMA, which are more accurate. Very common to have one test positive and others negative.
  5. Been there, done that! Lindy used to be my favorite. Personally, I have less of a reaction to Barley, you may get lucky!
  6. My 11 year old son has been feeling lousy for a few months, stomach pain, diarrhea, very tired and very depressed. Since this was EXACTLY how he was before his diagnosis 4 yrs go, I took him to the GP for bloodwork. Low Vit D, Iron and Zinc, and his ttg is sky high. Last check was about 18 months ago and everything was normal. We have three celiacs, so...
  7. Forgot to say, hold onto your gallbladder a bit longer. Celiac can cause the gallbladder to malfunction. I had mine out after the HIDA scan said it was only functioning at 10%. However, this "attack" happened two days after a bad glutening. When they removed the gallbladder it was pink and healthy, showed mild inflammation was all. (at which point, why the...
  8. Agreed, not enough samples, but all you are likely to get. Do the blood tests, INSIST on a full panel, then try gluten-free for awhile. (however this means eliminating all trace amounts, which you can find info on here about) Tiny exposure can still cause you trouble. The bumps on your arms are generally a reaction to dairy- dermatologists even refer to them...
  9. Your doctor, like most, is woefully uninformed. Celiac IS an auto-immune disorder and a very common symptom is exhaustion and seemingly weakened immunity. (your immunity isn't necessarily weak, it is just that your immune system has invested all of it's resources into attacking your intestines...) DH can occur ANYWHERE, I had it all over my legs for example...
  10. Mamaw, thank you for the recipe! Cant wait to try it!
  11. Lol, twinkies are waaay better than Rice Krispie treats. Wait, what were we talking about again?
  12. Well, if I could only have one gluten back, it would be wheat, not barley. And I do have plans to start inhaling twinkies the instant the sky starts falling! and yes yes, drugs are bad. Pain is worse however. In that instance anyway.
  13. Hmm...so I probably shouldn't conduct an experiment with Whoppers and Ovaltine....unless it is a full moon. Gotcha.
  14. Monday I went grocery shopping after getting some heavy duty painkillers at the Dr for a separate issue. (don't worry, I didn't drive) Anyway, never shop for gluten free groceries when you are stoned. I bought two boxes of Kellogs Cocoa Krispies. In my head they were Moms Best Coco Krispies, which are gluten free. Kelloggs however, contains barley malt flavoring...
  15. My two cents: If you are going to call yourselves a celiac you follow these rules: #1 Never cheat. Not a tiny bit or bite or just this once...because if you do, someone is going to tell me that "so and so is celiac and they can do it..." #2 Celiac is forever- gluten intolerance may get better. Are you prepared to eat this way the rest of your life? Because...
  16. @luvstoeat, I keep making that same decision...and then I cave, because it is just no fun going out and not eating, or bringing my own boring food! But then, I should not be whining when something happens now, should I? @pegleg84 When I started dating my husband at age 18 (and undiagnosed of course!) many of our dates ended with him holding my hair, or...
  17. @lauratx, good for you! What on earth do you suppose she thought you were up to in there? Having coffee? My mom, also a celiac, offered me her tale of woe. She was at a business luncheon, occupying the only bathroom, and people were pounding on the door. She says it didn't matter because "I wasn't coming out and they weren't coming in!". @gilligan, lets cross...
  18. @alwayssomething, your story made me laugh so hard! What an awful predicament you were in. Have to either laugh or cry, don't we?
  19. @moosemalibu...wow! I have always dreaded having to do that- have come close a few times! Only another celiac can relate to what we go through! Thank you for joining my pity party!
  20. Thank you, I appreciate the sympathy! I did have nausea meds with me (phenergan) the kids and I carry it at all times. For whatever reason, it did not work though. It was a new bottle and I swear the manufacturer left out the active ingredient. I always get a fuzzy out of it feeling from a single pill, and the pills always taste wretched. This batch had NO...
  21. We did it the first year, but it only worked because we had huge medical bills that year from all of the Dr visits and testing involved with our dx, plus my gallbladder surgery and a hospitalization for both kids. It was tedious and I almost didn't do it because my accountant warned me it would likely trigger an audit. We did not get audited, but I still...
  22. I have not posted in some time, but today am finding myself in need of support. Yesterday was my husband's company party, a beautiful dinner at a local winery. Out of consideration for me, his region manager had specifically requested the caterer to prepare several gluten free items. Since I have never even met the man, and he only knew about my celiac dx...
  23. I too, am the genetic weak link that passed Celiac to both of my kids, so I can relate to the guilt. You will come to find out however, that a gluten free diet benefits everyone, regardless of if they have a sensitivity. You and your children are being forced into better health. While you may have been asymptomatic at diagnosis, I can almost guarantee...
  24. Just one thought to bring to your attention, since you are only recently gluten free and probaBly still "learning the ropes".... is it possible the foods you are reacting to are cross contaminated with gluten? Watermelon gets cut on a cutting board- did you buy a new one yet? Onion rings may be made in the same fryer as other gluteny ones, etc....probably...
  25. keratosis pilaris is almost exclusively caused by a dairy intolerance. Most dermatologists are aware of this. If you remove all trace sources of dairy from your diet it will gradually disappear. I watched this happen in both my husband and daughter who both had severe kp all their lives. My daughter has since added in occasional dairy so she no longer has...
