  1. Also, be sure to have your Vit D, iron/ferritin and B12 levels checked. They are often low in celiacs and can contribute to depression. Having a thorough thyroid checkup would be a good idea too.
  2. Just want to make sure you understand, depression isn't always manifested as sadness. Irritability, short temper, mood swings can all be symptoms of depression. Likely you were depressed, even if celiac was the root cause. Depression can be caused by many things, and when it is caused by gluten, it doesn't necessarily go away when you stop eating it. I...
  3. What is TED? Hopefully your allergy-free diet will allow you to nurse him! I wish I had more suggestions for you.
  4. My 13 yo dd is getting a 504 plan due to excessive absences that would otherwise give her a failing grade. (Over 6 is automatic F) she already has missed 5. She is a straight A student. She is homeschooled but is dual enrolled in 9th grade at the high school. Was hoping she could manage half days but it isn't going so hot. So, I intend to have them allow...
  5. The blood tests are very reliable, howver, most doctors won't give you an "official" diagnosis without a biopsy. As was mentioned above, biopsies can easily miss celiac, so whether you get an "official" diagnosis or not, trust the bloodwork. False positives are almost unheard of. That said, in the UK you may be eligible for subsidized gluten free food...
  6. Here is the thing....you have celiac. The biopsy may or may not show it, they can be iffy. But the blood tests don't lie. So the reality is that once your endoscopy is done, you have to go gluten free, FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Enjoy every last Starbucks pumpkin muffin you can now. Have fun!
  7. If your rash is Dermatitis Herpetiformis, then you are celiac and need to avoid even trace amounts of gluten. This means you have to be careful that nothing you eat comes in contact with gluten. If you live with others who eat gluten, then you need your own toaster, cookware, food storage containers, cutting board, etc. You need to be certain no one is touching...
  8. Yes. If you want celiac testing, you MUST continue eating gluten thru the time of endoscopy or you run a high risk of false negative.
  9. Agreed. It would be a bad idea to biopsy after he has been gluten-free even a few weeks. Children heal quickly, and the biopsy looks for damage. If they see no damage, they will tell you he doesn't have celiac, when in reality, he just healed. The blood tests are very accurate. If your doc won't biopsy now, get him to agree to dx him based on a positive...
  10. Gluten can certainly cause depression, but it isn't the only cause by any means. Some things to look at: Have your thyroid checked, a full panel, not just tsh Have them check Vit D, E, A, K B12 and iron/ ferritin. Deficiencies are common amongst celiacs (and those who are gluten sensitive as well) and can cause depression You may have additional food...
  11. Celiac is likely, but casein (milk protein) allergy will also cause villous atrophy. From my experience, the two often go hand in hand anyway. Can you try nursing yet, or has your milk dried up? I would be curious to see how he did nursing if YOU were gluten and casein free.
  12. Exactly. I was one of those who had several periods of "remission" throughout my teenage and young adult years. I had been told by doctors that I had outgrown my "wheat allergy" and since it didn't make me sick anymore I believed them. But celiac stays forever, sometimes quietly lurking, waiting for the next illness or stressful event to make it active again...
  13. We all get your frustration. I was undiagnosed for 30 years. Many here went even longer. The good news is...you will probably heal. It takes time, months, years sometimes...but it gets so much better. Since you have your diagnosis, it is time to go gluten free for good. Also, request that they test your vit A, D, E, K, B12 and iron/ ferritin. These are...
  14. You may. Make sure to continue eating gluten for now. Also, get copies of your bloodwork. Most docs only do 1 or 2 of the older tests, when really a full panel needs to be done to rule out celiac. You may need an endoscopy as well to reach a final verdict. When you get your tests back, post them on here and we can advise you what to do next.
  15. Not a long shot at all. my interstitial cystitis is mostly in remission on a Gluten-free Casein-free diet. My 9 yr old son also had major bladder spasms and pain with no dx- once he was dx celiac and went gluten-free, urinary issues resolved. My celiac daughter had spasms and bedwetting until going Gluten-free Casein-free as well.
  16. Skin tests would not be the same at all. Sounds like he was testing for an allergic reaction, which is completely different from either celiac or gluten/wheat intolerance.
  17. I believed I had some weird, unidentifiable disease that would ultimately kill me. I believed I was slowly dying. I believed I would never feel better. So glad I was wrong!
  18. Wondering if perhaps the way it is being processed is what makes the difference. Perhaps the gluten in Raisin Bran or Wheat Chex is so refined that it isn't bothering you. Odd that raw gluten didn't cause a reaction either though. I don't know...I can see why you are stumped by this!
  19. This is an old post. Start a new topic with your question.

  21. Good for you! Paleo/primal eating has helped a lot of people! Check out marksdailyapple.com if you haven't already been there!
  22. Just wanted to say....when you have a problem with gluten, it can cause very REAL psychological issues. Many of us here find that it causes anxiety and depression, some even suffer hallucinations from it. Eating disorders are also common on the board and a lot of people have found relief from the constant binge/purge/starve cycle when they went gluten free...
  23. A doctor is someone YOU hire to treat YOU. Your doc is not doing their job. If you request a test, your doc needs to do it. You pay the bills, right? If you can't be forceful enough with this doc to insist on the testing, then find a new one, pronto. You would be better off anyway, as this one obviously isn't very up to date on her stuff. You definitely need...
  24. Little update....apparently the whole "not reacting" thing was temporary. Back to being the achy zit fairy when I eat dairy now. Sigh...
