  1. Yep, you"re normal. Ish. Not everyone has a gluten-detox, but alot do. My daughter didnt HAVE stomach trouble till she went gluten free- then she had weeks of nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, chills, fevers and skin rashes. Hang in there!

I understand. This disease does so many weird things to us that at times it seems almost absurd to blame it all on gluten. It wouldnt HURT to get a blood test- depending on how high your levels initially were, and depending on how succesful you are at being gluten free, antibodies MAY still show up. Another option is to get a stool test done through Enterolabs...
  3. For those in Iowa who are having difficulty getting tested, or who don't have insurance, I wanted to let you know that the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames will do Celiac Testing for $25. Just walk into the lab, no appt needed, no dr. referral needed. Simple and fast and CHEAP! They also do wellness profiles- (hemoglobin, cholesterol, PSA, etc.) I wish...
  4. I haven't posted in awhile- mainly because the last several months have been spent in hospitals and running to myriad dr appts. My two kids and I were all diagnosed with Celiac last spring-though my 7 yr old son was the one having gastro problems at the time. My daughter and I had many other issues that turned out to be celiac related. Anyway, after 6 months...
  5. My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac via biopsy 3 months ago. Aside from mild eczema, she was basically asymptomatic and was tested as a result of her brother and myself having celiac. She has been strictly gluten free since then. I decided to take her off dairy cold turkey about 5 weeks ago to see if that would make a difference with her eczema. About ...
  6. Thank you for the replies. I ended up going to the ER actually because I developed agonizing pain about 3 inches baove my navel. The dr decided I had an inflamed duodenum from the procedure and gave me some pain meds and prilosec and I am feeling much better now! Thanks!
  7. Thursday I had an endoscopy and biopsy. I wont get the biopsy results for another week, but the doctor said he could tell I had celiac from the endoscopy alone, so I started the gluten free diet that day. I have not been having any stomach issues lately, though I have frequently in the past. Friday night I woke up with horrible cramps- felt alot like menstrual...
  8. I empathize with you. Can't tell you how many times I have been told my health issues are being caused by depression. Who isn't depressed when they feel like crap all the time? HOWEVER...depression does play a role and can compound the effects of everything else. As someone else mentioned, there is a brain/gut connection. While I would follow up on the...
  9. Who is paying for the test, you or her? If your doctor wont provide the service you are paying her to do, time to find a new doc!
  10. Ahhh...well that would make sense then. Just another reason to wish I was a teenager again!
  11. Thank you Ravenwood- You don't know how happy it makes me to hear that! I have always had low blood pressure and would get very light headed and lose my vision when I stood- but it wasn't really a big deal- always was fine after a minute or so and I just made a point to stand up slower! But this not being able to REMAIN standing is a real pain in the tukus...
  12. My 7 yr old son was diagnosed with Celiacs a few weeks ago after two years of constant stomach pain. My daughter and I have had positive blood tests and are having biopsies done next week to confirm, but as we have both had alot of symptoms I am pretty sure it will be positive as well. I have been doing tons of research since my son's diagnosis and have found...
  13. My son was recently diagnosed via biopsy. My daughter and myself have had positive blood tests and are having biopsies next week. I am pretty sure they will be positive as of SO many symptoms we have had. My question is, is it possible to have periods of remission, for years even, and then flares? At the age of 5 I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy...
  14. My 7 yr old son was recently diagnosed after two years of constant abdominal pain that the doctors had blamed on everything from acid-reflux to school anxiety. When I suggested celiacs I was told that it was a "very rare disease" and that he didn't look like a "celiac kid." It was only after the pain got so bad that he missed a straight month of school and...
  15. Poor thing! Just remember, grandparents will do ANYTHING for their grandkids! As long as you don't approach it like- "This is YOUR fault!" you should be ok. Just tell them how sick she got and ask if they can help you figure out what she "got into." Ask if you can come over and all of you review everything she ate and how it was cooked TOGETHER. Make it out...
  16. Hi, I am new here. My son is 7 and was diagnosed a few weeks ago. he has had terrible insomnia for over a year now, and I am really hoping that being gluten free will soon start to help this as well! he has alot of nightmares too, which I think the constant stomach pain contributed to. i dont have an answer for you, but at least you know you aren't alone...
  17. Hi, my son is also in first grade and was diagnosed with Celiacs a few weeks ago. he is also lactose intolerant and allergic to soy. He wont eat sandwiches, but loves fruit and yogurt so his daily lunches so far consist of a carton of yogurt and some cut up fruit (strawberries, apples, blueberries, grapes work well) I also add a small container of nuts sometimes...
  18. Hi, I am new here and new to learning about Celiac Disease. My 7 yr old son was recently diagnosed via biopsy. My 12 year old daughter and I both tested positive on the blood test and are awaiting a biopsy to confirm next week, but am pretty sure that it will be positive as well as we have both had a lifetime of stomach issues and horrible canker sores-along...
