  1. I missed whether you said if you live alone- but if you are in a shared household you are getting cross contamination and that will hinder your progress severely. Every miniscule molecule of gluten that you are exposed to will trigger an immune response in your body, so if you are living with others, it is time for serious changes. You need your own cutting...
  2. Funny you should post this now. Adelaide. My original post was back in January. They did an ultrasound then and found no stones and said I was fine. Now, just a few days ago (11 months later I guess) I had another attack, and spent the night and next day in hospital. They did a CT scan and found nothing. I was supposed to have a HIDA scan yesterday too, but...
  3. Chances are good your insulin resistance may go away when you have been gluten-free for awhile. In the meantime, you are going to be more limited, for sure, and have to stick more heavily to the veggies than the fruits. There isn't an easy solution for most of us, and this is something that we had to learn to deal with. You will too.
  4. Well...I didn't noticeably react...but I took a chance I normally wouldn't. As in eating the TOP of a really amazing piece of cheesecake...I stayed a good 1/4 inch away from the crust...but...I know. I shouldn't have. A moment of weakness. Anyway, I didn't feel sick after, but I felt a bit achy and my feet hurt, which is usually a telltale sign of cc for...
  5. Sitting in lab drinking gross barium now for a CT scan. Really hoping they find some answers this time. So tired of this. Whatever it is.
  6. Insist on an endoscopy and biopsy. Blood only tells so much. My son was just like yours, only anemic too, and after 2 years of being told he was "just fine" even though he was barely growing and cried every day about his stomach I demanded they scope him. As in refused to leave until they agreed to do it. I didn't even know about celiac at the time, and no...
  7. I think the celiac dx is dead on, especially with the ttg dropping on a gluten-free diet. But there is more going on, and unfortunately, it isn't going to easily reveal itself. My 8 yr old went thru a lot of the same, anemia, constant stomach pain, got a celiac dx but didn't improve much for first year. I cut out all dairy and wham, instant difference. So...
  8. For me, it takes no gluten, no dairy and very little caffeine to keep it under control, but it does work. Even small amounts of dairy (like baked goods) will cause a flare though. Its annoying, but it beats running to the bathroom 50 times a day. I don't take elmiron either.
  9. Spent the night in the hospital with what felt like a typical gaLlbladder attack. HVe had a few over the years, always textbook symptoms, but had a HIDA scan a few years ago and ultrasound this spring and always say gallbladder is fine. This time white cells and pancreatic enzymes were both elevated. They want to do another HIDA scan. I have a theory that...
  10. Chex cereals- gluten free and cheap. Beans and rice in corn tortillas. Scrambled eggs. Fresh fruit, peanut butter with apples, celery or bananas is a good quick go to snack. Stick to boring and basic for right now, aFter a few weeks, you will start to feel a bit better and you can get more creative. Just avoid bread for right now. I have tried making my own...
  11. Oh, and to the OP, yes, follow up with your PCP, but be prepared to be proactive, cuz they are usually clueless. Ask for B12, Iron and Ferritin, Vit A, D, E and K to be tested, as all are commonly low in celiacs. Glad you got aN official diagnosis aT least!
  12. What I meant was that POSITIVE blood tests don't lie! Positive is positive. But yes, false negatives are quite common. Sorry I didn't clarify!
  13. Don't be too hard on yourself. After nearly two years of always thinking about what I eat, I absent mindedly grabbed a Nestle Crunch bar a few weeks ago and started to put it in my mouth before it dawned on me that DUH, I should probably look at the label! And of course it has Barley mAlt in it! Sometimes our brains just aren't on the ball, it happens. Hope...
  14. What you are feeling is EXACTLY what celiac feels like- though some get the bonus of constant diarrhea and vomiting too. I was like you, I slept, and slept, and slept, and yet never felt anything but exhausted. I only got off the couch when I absolutely had to, and I missed out on the majority of my childrens' childhood because of it. I ached constantly,...
  15. Maybe its cancer. Seriously? I would never go to that jerk again!
  16. Rye bread. How I miss a hot delicious loaf of rye! And obviously, there is no gluten-free sub for that!
  17. You need to be firm and call the shots. Insist on a celiac test for your son, he is very symptomatic. If your ped still refuses, find a new one. Chances are, if you stick to your guns, he will give in. If the tests are negative (which is commmon in toddlers) then try the gluten diet. I bet you will see results.
  18. I would recommend a food diary. My celiac son had the same issues, and we finally discovered caffeine, food dyes and dairy all would cause the nasty emotional outbursts. As long as we keep himm away from them, he is a nice little boy!
  19. Tom, depending on the extent of the damage, a week or two could make the difference between a positive or negative result. For instance, if the OP has only mild villous blunting, a week or two could make the villi appear normal. After all, the intestinal lining renews itself every three days. Now, if the OP has total villous atrophy, likely a week or two...
  20. Prepapre yourself for the fact that your doctor probably knows very little about celiac. Most of them have outdated knowledge and will likely not give you the most accurate info. Regarding the biopsy, most doctors will say you do NOT have celiac if the biopsies are negative. It simply isn't true. The blood tests are very reliable, and some of them are...
  21. Vaseline eyes! Love it IrishHeart. Could not describe it better myself. It makes me so sad for them and wish doctors would just routinely screen for celiac. I lost soooo many years to gluten, and I hate that many others continue to, just because of ignorance.
  22. Reading your last post about the multiple food allergies and height issues...bingo. do one more celiac panel- if it is still negative go 100% gluten-free anyway. I bet you anything you see those other food allergies and asthma gradually go away, and I bet your son starts growing. I hate the thought of any kid going through a lifetime of weird health issues...
  23. I'm going to admit something pretty awful....I have a leftover bottle of Adderall from pre-celiac diagnosis. I used to rely on it daily to try to break through what I thought was ADD but was really gluten-brain. I was kn9cked flat with chronic fatigue and 60 mg of Adderall made it possible to shower and dress most days. Not much more. How pathetic. I horde...
  24. If it has been a few years, the kids should be tested again. Make sure they do a full panel, not just ttg. I can't answer your question because both my kids also have celiac. For myself, I know I had it as a child as I used to vomit fromm eating wheat. I was told I couldn't tolerate high fiber and would outgrow my "wheat allergy" as a teenager I had a...
  25. Irritable Bowel Syndrome= something is irritating your bowels. Some people it is only gluten. Looks like for you it is gluten + something else. Bowels aren't going to be inflamed and irritated without a cause. The tricky part is nailing down the cause(s). When doctors give you and IBS diagnosis, it is there way of saying "we don't know what is making...
