  1. Could you be reacting to the brown rice in the pasta? I can't eat their pasta because brown rice gives me severe stomach pain and bad C. (Gluten gives me very mild stomach issues. I mostly get neuro symptoms from gluten.) My kids prefer BiAglut (corn and something else) to Tinkyada. I eat Le Veneziane (corn only). It's far better than any other corn...
  2. Try to find French Meadow Bakery frozen chocolate chip gluten-free cookie dough. You just put the frozen cookie on a pan and bake. They are WONDERFUL! Had gluten-eating guests over awhile ago, and these cookies were devoured. (Our entire home is gluten-free.) Yes, avoiding temptation gets easier. After awhile you forget what some foods taste like...
  3. The suggestions about baking are interesting. I don't bake anything for myself because I can't tolerate so many grains. I'd have to bake with white rice flour and corn meal! LOL! Anyway, if my eating out doesn't get to me, I'll try cooking something with a touch of butter and see what happens. Would love to eventually be able to eat something with...
  4. That's interesting! I looked up high amines foods. I can eat dark chocolate, pecans, bananas, and mushroom, which were all listed as high or very high. So I don't think that's what I'm reacting to. But thanks for the suggestion.
  5. I dropped dairy awhile ago because I found that even lactose-free dairy was bothering me. (stomach pain and C) About a month and a half ago, I had risotto at a restaurant. I was fine. Then couple weeks later tried 1/4 cup cheddar cheese with a meal one night. Didn't work. Couple weeks after that, I tried a cream soup at a fancy restaurant. Only ate...
  6. Congrats! Glad you're doing so well!
  7. Some wine coolers have malt like Bartles and Jaymes.
  8. Not sure if gluten does this to your son, but for me it caused severe cystic acne. I had it for almost 25 years. Two rounds of Accutane couldn't make it go away permanently. Couldn't handle most antibiotics. Allergic to some topicals. Anyway, after being off gluten for 2 months, and my cystic acne was gone! Did a 4-day gluten challenge, it came back...
  9. I am so, so sorry! You handled it very well and are a very understanding person.
  10. Definitely get tested. If bloodwork is negative, then still go gluten-free for 8 weeks or so, then reintroduce. That's what I did, and I had a VERY definite neurological response to gluten. If gluten is the root of your problems, give the diet time. It took 8 months for my brain to reactivate and my depression and anxiety to disappear. At 11 months gluten...
  11. I'm a redhead!
  12. In most of their food unfortunately: Open Original Shared Link
  13. I've avoided soy for about 10 months now and am testing it out. Apparently, soybean oil gives me a lovely stomach ache (day 1, so not sure how long this'll last - just hoping the big C won't be too bad when it shows up next). I know Chipotle uses it in most of their food. Any other restaurants to definitely avoid? Or types of restaurants/food to avoid...
  14. If you suspect fructose, you may want to cut out brown rice, brown rice pasta, and baked goods with brown rice flour. Even though it doesn't have fructose or fructans in it, a lot of people with fructose malabsorption can't eat it. It gives me terrible stomach pain that starts two days after I eat it. (I get C, so it takes a couple of days for my GI tract...
  15. Thanks so much everyone! I'm really looking forward to tonight. Live music, drink or two, crowded pub, adult conversation (I stay home with my 4 kids). I would never have done this the last decade of pre-gluten-free. Too tired, reclusive, anxious, brain fogged, etc. It's been over 10 months now, and at around 8 months, my old music-loving, outgoing,...
  16. First, I'm able to tolerate vodka made from grains quite well, so distilled alcohol isn't a problem for me. (Wine and sorghum beer give me stomach aches.) I'm going to a pub tomorrow that serves beer (obviously a no-no!) irish whiskey, or scotch whiskey. I've seen a couple things on the internet with vague statements about barley mash sometimes being...
  17. I totally agree with the above. I think if someone responses well to the diet, it's hard to prove they are NOT celiac since current testing is so poor. I had - bloodwork. GI was ignorant of celiac and refused scope. Neurologist insisted I do a gluten-free trial since "I see a lot of false negatives." I reintroduced gluten after 2 months gluten-free...
  18. I drink vodka with no problems. For eating out, I highly recommend bringing a dining card. My favorite is this one: Open Original Shared Link (My direct link isn't working. Just go to their store and look for it on the right hand side.) I love the color coding on it. I own 3 in case one doesn't get returned to me. Before I order, I always show it to...
  19. I use this, too. No soy in it. Be sure to start with one or two and work your way up. Other things with decent amount of fiber: potatoes with skin, teff, quinoa, bananas, peanut butter, and some chocolate bars. Fearless Chocolate dark midnight bar has 7 grams of fiber in half a bar. (It does say "may contain traces of soy from shared equipment." Not...
  20. You may want to take it easy the first time you try it as some find their tolerance level has changed. I tried it for the first time this week after not having any for 8 months. My tolerance was OK, but I had a two-day hangover. I plan on abstaining when we have company spending several nights here, as having company can be tiring enough!
  21. People don't always understand how being underweight can make you feel really bad, so it's a hard one to discuss with healthy friends. Most people my age are fighting to lose weight, so they think I'm lucky to have to struggle to keep it on. I'm 43, and I have 4 kids, so being a size 0 is unusual. I lost the weight due to all my food intolerances (dairy...
  22. First, keep a food diary to track what you eat and your symptoms. Look for patterns. Reactions can come on fast or be as delayed as a couple of days, so this process is a royal pain. Start out with a few non-irritating foods. Make sure you're getting enough fat and calories (there are a number of calorie trackers you can find). Eat as many unprocessed...
  23. I'll have to try this when the Thanksgiving rush is over. (Next week is cornbread testing week here! LOL!) I need things spelled out slowly for me with recipes
  24. Y'all are making me feel better! Well, mentally at least! LOL! I'll just give it more time.
  25. Not sure if this link will work, but here it is: Open Original Shared Link It can be found in the yahoo group under Files, Articles, fructans.pdf. Technically, there's a trace amount of fructans in brown rice, but you'd have to be SUPER, SUPER sensitive to fructans for the amount to cause problems. (I know I'm not.) Quinoa has more fructans than brown...
